This is a 12 question science quiz put out by Pew Research and given to over 1000 American adults selected randomly. You can also give it a try and then answer the poll above with your number of correct answers.

After you finish the quiz it will tell you how you scored compared to the sample of Americans used by Pew Research. You might find it interesting to look at the page that shows the demographics of the right and wrong answers to each question to see how you compare to people of similar age, sex and educational background.

Enjoy....

I got all 12 right. The quiz was fun. I was nude when I took it. Therefore, it was nude fun.

I got all 12. Seemed rather easy but I am sciency kind of guy. Technically just a high school education. A shame they don't consider my Naval training.

Marc and Mark, were you nude. Otherwise, since the post was in the wrong category, you were not allowed to take the test.

I scored 12 out of 12 - better than the average American. But then, I'm not American...

Most of us seems to have gotten 12. Seems like Nudists are a pretty well educated bunch.

I got 12 out of 12 while nude.

Later I'll try it clothed to see if there is a difference.

12/12, but since one of the sites I hit pretty much every day is scienceblogs.com, I'm probably not the target audience :)

And, did it nude, so I can post.

10 out of 12....... I thought was pretty good until I saw the poll results and these posts

I got these questions wrong...

5. What gas do most scientists believe causes temperatures in the atmosphere to rise?

11. Electrons are smaller than atoms.

Oh well...... :)

12 out of 12 and did it nude.

By my count 70% of the people who scored all 12 (on this forum) did so while being naked.

10 out of 12 here. Not too bad, since I was 63% above the general population. After viewing the results, I realized why I missed the 2 that I did. And, I took the quiz while nude as well.:smoking:

You should have gotten #5 if you watch the news on television and all the coverage on GLOBAL WARMING. As for #11, atoms are made of electrons and neutrons and positrons, so atoms must be bigger than electrons.

I downloaded the full rport in PDF format and will read it today, (it's 100 pages long)

Got all 12 right. Did it wearing shorts and a Tshirt. Just an average student in High School.
Never had any post H.S. "Formal" education.

But you can learn a lot if your paying attention, even without paying for education.
I'm sure there are plenty of College Grads that didn't get all 12.

12 out of 12 and I was nude. I watch CNN and the science channel a lot. Occassionaly check out the NASA web site.

Pew really should include a question as to whether the test taker is clothed or nude, but I think the clear trend shown here is that people are smarter when nude.

It's scientific!

I got all 12 correct. Unfortunately, I was thinking about being nude. Have a guest @ the moment and my nudity would be inappropriate...but I was having many thoughts on being nude and wishing I were. So it qualifies for this forum...it was fun too.

All 12 right.

But for people going through today's UK science education, they would find it much more difficult.

I aced it too. I agree that nudists are smarter than textiles. Let's create our own test. To start:

1) Nudists are just as likely to get skin cancer as textiles. True or False.

2) Textiles add more to global warming than nudists. True or False.

I got 11 right but one I admit I did not know the answer to so I guessed. With a 50/50 chance I was unlucky and got it wrong. If lucky it would have shown me to be super intelligent like most of the rest of you BUT - I challenge all of you who got 12 right to own up to how many you guessed  and were LUCKY

re KOUAK's question -
1) Nudists are just as likely to get skin cancer as textiles. True or False.

Again I don't know but guess it's a trick question and the answer is "FALSE"- they are more likely because they have more exposed skin or less likely because they absorb more vitamin D - but NEVER "just as likely" - there will always be a difference.

2) Textiles add more to global warming than nudists. True or False.
Again , is this a trick question ? The quick answer is TRUE because there are no clothes to wash and probably far less air con cooling in the summer BUT from what i read on Clothes free posts, nudists crank up the heating in winter which I think would add MORE to global warming (burning oil/gas/electricity etc) than saved in summer therefor my considered answer is "FALSE".

I got all 12 right. However, there were a couple questions that I knew the pollitically correct answer, even though technically it was wrong. I selected the "wrong" answer because I knew that's what they wanted for the test.

If 75% of us got it right, why did only 10% of the general public do so?

I am a huge science buff. My favorites being geology (specifically studying ho things used to be), astrophysics (studying galaxies, stars, black holes, etc), String Theory (and all accompanying theories such as M Theory), and temporal physics (study of time).

I did find interesting that the questions missed most often were the ones about the atom and lasers with 46% and 47% each getting it correct while just over half knew the antibiotic question (54%) and stem cells (52%).

The question known by 91% was about the heart attack prevention drug.

Looks like nudist score a bit better than the general public. Could it be the relaxed attitude? Oh yeay 12 out of 12 here.

I don't think it's the relaxed attitude. I just think that nudists are smarter than textiles -- hence the reason we are nudists! ;)

Stay nude!

I also got twelve. Only 10% of thier poll got all 12 but most of us are getting 12 so are nudists smarter then the rest or are most of that top 10% nudists? hmmmm. Maybe it's just easier to think when relaxed. Maybe Berkley or some other university should do a study on doing homework or taking tests nude. Have nude and clothed control groups made up of people with similar GPAs and see who does better.
I think I remember hearing Cheri from travelites Lectures at schools. Maybe she could get some professors interested.

jrhind -- go to the first post on this thread and you will see a link to the quiz.

Got all 12 correct but it again reaffirms my belief that the general public is not all that smart. And, I am not being a cynic! LOL I mean if the general public does not pass this test for the most part, how very, very, sad.

12 for 12-the answers seemed to be so obvious to me. But on the other hand I have always been somewhat of a science geek.
