Regarding the "Random Pictures" that appear on the Forums List Page: I only recognize about half (maybe) of the names of these people as current posters. I've never heard of a lot of these people.

Just wondering if they are people who at one time set up albums, but who now no longer post. I would think that if one deserted a forum, one would delete one's photos as well. But, maybe that's just me.

Since I've been here (about 5 years), I notice that new people come, post in a flurry of old threads, post albums, and then seem to disappear. Is my perception accurate?

I leads me to wonder how old some of these albums are.

Curiosity, nothing more.

Good point. I would not be upset if they deleted members who have not done anything for 3 years. If you look at the members page, you will find thousands of users.

Or they could just have an active flag on their profile and set it to inactive after 3 years. The site could only show active members and their albums unless the user selects to show inactive users too. Just a thought.

I don't think the members' list is ever updated and purged. If you will note, there are numerous members listed with not one posting. Many of these are very, very old. It may be that the owners of the forum do not have the time to do a members' listing purge.

On the internet, many things are just a numbers game. They can say that this website has X amount of users, even though 98% of them are no longer active. Removing the inactive users just makes that number smaller, and they will have a harder time attracting new members.

Granted that this site doesn't exactly fit into that, since I've never seen any advertising, or anybody going around saying "Join CFI, we have 29,000+ members!" But if they ever did start doing so, the numbers are there to use.

Quite true, Lord Drakkus. A bit misleading to use empty numbers, but true for marketing.

In the About Us tab, it states "We are growing about 40% a year with about 15,000 members in five years. Over 60% renew their memberships annually."

This translates to 9,000 members who renew annually. This is in addition to all of the new members.

BTW: The inactivating of the members would be automatic based upon some criteria--not a manual effort.
