My boy showed me this today from You Tube, these are a series of commercials from Office Max where a 10 year old billionaire pays with things with pennies. Watch the one below and then click the link to see more.

Has anyone noticed more and more pennies on the ground these days? I see loose change in the stores, especially near the cash registers or inside the bank and they're there in plain site. On my daily walks I will pick a penny here & there, sometimes nickels, sometimes dimes. They all add up! It's hard to say how much I've collected over the years except the total was a 'pretty penny'!

Funny ad. I like the bagpipes. I wish I had a bagpiper to lead me everywhere. What a great idea, a personal soundtrack.
maliakei: I also find pennies all around. I've actually stood behind people at the 7-11 and watched them toss pennies on the ground on the way out instead of keeping them or putting them in the penny dish. What's funny is how many of these people look as if they really should be counting their pennies. I'm sorry to sound bad, but if you go into a 7-11 and buy 2 packs of smokes in the middle of the day looking as if you just got out of bed and then stumble back into your 1982 celica that belches smoke, you might not want to be tossing your pennies away.

Yeah really. Maybe people don't want to bother picking up pennies thinking they're worthless and dirty, too embarassed, or don't care? I don't mind at all. In fact it all adds up so there's no complaining here! The same goes with aluminum cans & bottles on the beach. I will sometimes go there and gather them and bring them to the recycling, but we don't see many.
Awhile back I remember talk about the penny possibly being banned and how it costs government more money to produce and distribute them. Obviously they are still in circulation.

"Find a penny, pick it up. All day long, you'll have good luck."
Growing up, good ole' mom always said that. To this day I still pick one up when I see one.

When I walk to the store or fitness center, I'll pick up the coins along with nails, screws, bolts, tire weights, and, yes, even lug nuts. When I find pennys, I always announce that I got some "common 'cents'" that day. :D

greg, I learned that the luck is only good if the penny is right side up with the heads side showing.
As for whether pennies are more numerous on the ground, I haven't noticed that. They seem to be around in the same amounts.
My oldest pennies are 1942 wheat pennies. The oldest I have had was a 1936 wheat penny, but I can't seem to find that one any more.
I never spend pennies. I get them, but then just put them in a coin saver. I may have nearly 3,000 pennies so far. I haven't counted them in a number of years. Maybe eventually, i can start to pay for fine art in pennies as well. :D
