Here is a young man who saved a bus load of kids from one of the kids with a gun. He saw an opportunity and took it. No shots fired, no one hurt.
Lots to discuss on this subject.
1: The young man is going to college, he should get a free ride for being a hero.
2: The young man was not fightened of the gun and knew to take the opportunity to stop her.
What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are what is happening that someone feels the need to resort to the extreems that this young lady did. I know that being picked on and bullied is not fun. I do not know how bad it was for her and she came to the point that she snapped, or if this society teaches that violence is the only answer to even the smallest slights.
I know that there is a pressure on kids not to tattle and to work things out for themselves, which is a good thing, but has it become too much of a burden for kids and they totally shut down instead of confiding in someone else how they feel and what it is they are trying to deal with. What is the right ballance of teaching self-relience? Asking for guidance should not be a bad thing, it is when it becomes "handle this for me" that it becomes giving up for that person.

Thank goodness Caleb's sister woke him up! He handled it well, and calmly.
Kids today are under so much burden and pressures. There will always be school bullies and kids who are constantly picked on. They're not difficult to recognize. I remember all too well witnessing this in school, and the teachers rarely said a word or did anything unless someone cried or got hurt.
Some kids are too frightened to confide in anyone fearing they'll be found out. In some cases there was a brave student who would stand up to the troublemaker in the classroom to make it stop. I believe the 'right balance' starts by recognizing the problem right away, then let it be known that bullying will not be tolerated. Bullies are so inferior the only way is to stand up them to get them to stop. Some parents enroll their kids in martial arts to protect themselves, and to gain confidence. I also believe using common sense, and knowing the difference helps when teaching self-reliance. It depends on the situation.
