Hello again. As usual, I would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy Labor Day holiday this coming Monday. May all of your treats come out tasty on the barbie grills for those of us barbecuing. Enjoy the day!

Thanks, and the same to you as well. I've already made plans for a cook-out on Sunday (recuperate on Monday). I'm also hoping to spend the three days clothesfree as much as possible.

Thought I would share a trick to grilling bratwursts (or Italian sausages). Just boil them first with half or a whole bottle of beer and some onions. Yes, they will look white-ish when done. That's OK. This will make it so you just have to cook their outsides on the grill--just like hotdogs. If you start with raw ones, they take forever to grill, and you have to do it on such low heat so the outside does not burn.
So next time, boil your brat's first. You'll be glad you did. It is a great idea for parties too. They cook in a snap.

Pre-boiling also applies to baby back ribs and chicken. I only have a little smokey Joe, so can do long grills since I can't get more charcoal in once it's going. But, say the ribs - boil for 45 minutes... yes, they will be white, but then put them down on a hot grill for another 10 - 15 minutes, saucing and turning every couple of minutes and you get this fabulous carmelized barbeque flavor in less half the time of the slow cook. And while I'm not a purist, but I have those who didn't know I hadn't slow cooked my ribs.
Have a great long weekend.

Hey, I like my brats grilled till they are burnt. I do precook ribs though.
I always do like to hear different grilling techniques.
I hope everyone has a nice labor day weekend!

I've heard of boiling your ribs first but wondered is the meat would be as tender as slow cooking. I'll have to try it next time. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks for the tips peeps, but I see this has turned into a BBQ thread. lol I usually smoke my meals. I BBQ over mesquite charcols or wood (oak). Sometimes I'll BBQ over the coals, but usually I smoke. Everything comes out very tender and quite tasty. I also make my own BBQ sauce, better than store bought. Also, the rub you use makes a difference. I've never pre-boiled anything. It's all in the technique. But be careful. It's nice to BBQ while nude, but put on some sandles, or some type of foot covering. Using the mesquite charcols and wood, there is a tendency for some hot ashes to pop out of the grill. Caution, VERY HOT.:smoking:

Hello Kouak. I believe bratwurst sausages are German sausages if I am not mistaken. But this post is still rather interesting indeed. I absolutely love bratwursts. As far as preparing them, I just throw them straight onto the grill and charbroil them with an open flame. To me, that gives them the best taste. But I realize everyone has different tastes though.
