to all those contributors here for the information shared on this site.
When my wife announced several weeks ago that she wanted to "do something different" and followed with " Lets go to a nude resort"; I almost fell off my chair! A/N is mandatory. As she commented "I don't want to be around others who are fully clothed if I am nude".
She has always been very modest, no, painfully modest, so you could imagine my surprise. As I have always been comfortable with my body and enjoyed being naked, I welcomed the idea.
We plan to leave early in the new year departing either Toronto or Montreal. My search has been narrowed down to: Sorobon Bonaire, Playa Sonrisa Mexico, Breezes Braco, Hidden Beach Mexico and Caliente Caribe DR.
We would appreciate some up to date reviews on these places to help with our decision making.
thanks in advance

Hi Northern Bare:
Give our congratulations to your Wife. WE can't give you any insights into the resorts that you have listed. As we only have visited resorts in the USA. If the state of Florida is an option for you Cyprus Cove is the finest that we have ever visited. So if possible give it some thought.

Thanks SouthernJR
We have decided that we would prefer to go further south than Florida for this adventure.

Sorobon is mandatory nude on the beach, but optional elsewhere. It's very quiet, very small, has no pool, and the chalets are basic and starting to look tired (although they've started a refurbishment programme). The bar/bistro is basic but adequate, although certainly not cheap. Bar/restaurant service is patchy, to say the least, and you're quite likely to find the bar's shut at 9.30pm if there aren't people drinking. It's quite isolated, you'll need to rent a car if you want to eat out in town. Overall, Sorobon is too expensive now (especially since they also introduced a 5% service charge on all bar/food purchases). My wife and I have been once or twice a year for several years, but are not planning to return.
Don't know anything about Playa Sonrisa.
Breezes Braco is in a state of change, and it might be worth letting it settle down before going there. It also looks like next year's prices for the A/N side are going to be high.
Hidden Beach gets great reviews, we have friends who loved it, and it's on our shortlist for next Easter.
Caribe is a stupendously beautiful resort, with amazingly good staff. It's no good for sea bathing, but there are nice pools. It's effectively clothing optional, although most people are nude all day around the pools and bars (and many are nude at dinner too). There's entertainment every night, which can be fun even though it's a bit amateurish. The food is almost all a la carte, waiter service - no lukewarm buffets! But it's basically a 3-star resort, reflected in its keen pricing (it's significantly cheaper than most). I've been twice, and loved it. It's also high on our shortlist for next Easter. If you're thinking of booking, check out the "group trips" section of their website and ask for prices - these can be heavily discounted. Be aware though that the "Erotic Resort Takeover" periods are likely to attract "lifestylers" (who, strangely, are often not nude) so you'd need to be sure that your wife would be happy with that.
You might also consider Club Orient; stunning beach, good accommodation, fairly pricey.

Many thanks Tiger79.
I was afraid that Sorobon would be pricey. The lack of pool is no problem especially with that magnificent beach.
Hidden Beach and Caliente Caribe are moving up the list, for sure.

The beach looks fabulous, and the colour of the water is amazing, but it's actually not very good for swimming, as it's too shallow. There's a little patch that they dredge out periodically to make it deep enough for swimming, but it's not extensive.

Funny, that doesn't appear on their website :laugh:

Thanks, I hope she will enjoy enough to want to make it a habit. I am a pretty lucky guy!

While Sorobon is a bit pricey we love it for what it is, small, quiet, relaxing, and beautiful.
The beach is great, with easy snorkeling and floating right off shore. The restaurant is indeed a mixed bag, the lack of potentially bad entertainment is a plus for us. If you want to get away and relax and read this is a great place.
What we do is hang out, take the van to town for supplies, then rent a vehicle at the end of our stay to wander the island. If you don't think you'll like a desert island, think again and take a drive out to the salt pans to view the flamingos or to the north end into the national park which is full of amazing landscapes and vegetation.
Good luck with your choice.

I consider Tiger79 a friend as I have been a Sorobon on one occasion when he and his wife were also there. He also recently visited a small naturist hotel in Spain that I recommended to him.
I have been going to Sorobon off and on since 1994 and even though I have not visited as often as Tiger79 has in the past two years, it is the best place in the Caribbean for first-timers, IMHO. And the most relaxed. (I also like the private, no-gawker beach and the shallow-ish water, so to each their own!)
Hidden Beach: Based on what two people have told me, who did work there at one time in very responsible positions, I highly doubt I would ever visit that property. That's all I can say.
Caliente Caribe: Tiger79 visited after it was bought by the Florida company that owns the luxe Caliente property in that state. I visited on 2 occasions when it was called Eden Bay and was owned by another group of people. I also enjoyed the place. A very good source of mine who lives near Caliente Caribe has emailed me just two weeks ago, about the very poor occupancy it has had this past year, so check out other vacation message boards before you go. You don't want to be one of a very few vacationers in the whole resort...
I also agree with Tiger79's assessment of Club Orient. A viable option to CO is Club Fantastico, much smaller with incredible views of Orient Bay, and about a 10-12 minute walk to Orient Beach (downhill). I was last there in December 07, so check out their website for any special deals.
Safe and fun travels!

Thanks for your input. Its beginning to sound more interesting. We do not need the potentially bad entertainment either. Quiet, relaxing, friendly are definitely high on the list of pluses.

Thanks Journeyman, while quiet is a plus, we sure don't want to be alone in a large resort.
