Hi folks! I posted this subject on another thread but I guess it got lost in the shuffle.As you know it's been REAL hot lately and I just can't resist shedding my tank top and shorts after getting into the ole' family truckster and rolling down the windows and letting that most holy brease fly but I'm wondering, Is it illegal to drive nude?I make every attempt to cover up if there is any chance that I'll be seen by someone in another car or truck but I stiffen (ok pun intended) when I see a police cruiser and I gage how fast I can get dressed if I'm stopped.Am I being paranoid?

Yes, it is illegal.
Would recommend having the shorts handy to quickly slip on.
Be careful to obey all other traffic laws, so as to avoid a police car pulling you over.
Back roads with little or no traffic are best- I have done it under these circumstances.

I enjoy it often and have come to realize very few,except maybe the truckers are going to be distracted from the effort of driving and talking on their cellphones to pay you any attention, but still be careful, to avoid traffic violations or accidents. And if they do happen to see you, what are they going to do. Get a cheap thrill or giggle.Just make sure to cover up when a bus goes by, they are looking out their windows,looking for something interesting to see. If they do report it to the Law, by the time his department reaches him,he responds, finds you and pulls you over, you should have surely had time to dress and be prepared with a story.He has got to prove your exposure.Just don't be doing anything else wrong, that he can get you on.Drive naked.

One thing to think about is to have a old pair of pants/sweat bottoms in the back seat at all times. Maybe in Canada it's illegal, but in the U.S. I know of no Federal law against driving nude. In California, the same know of no law stating you cannot drive nude. You can be cited for causing slowing of traffic, or causing a road hazard. Individual city traffic regulations might be able to cite for driving nude, but not aware of any, or heard of any.

Several states are trying to make use of cell phones illegal in moving vehicles, and I just read somewhere that some state is trying to pass no smoking in moving vehicles. I don’t think it illegal to drive with one hand on the wheel, eat something, or drink non intoxicating beverage while driving either. [Race drivers handle their vehicles fine with one hand!] I did read somewhere its not allowed to drive bare footed for safety reasons, but with today's power assisted brakes and steering I could not see where that could be a issue safety wise just because one was barefooted.

Poolside's comments are exactly the same as those law enforcement officers, from CHP, county sheriff and a local city police officer that I spoke with regarding laws pretaining to driving nude, hypothetically of course http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

All three officers from different agencies stated to me...."I've got more important things to do than go after someone driving naked."

I have checked it out - barefoot driving is perfectly legal.

Are people all that bored when they're driving that they have to look into other vehicles? I usually pay no attention to other vehicles. I have looked a few times just to see if I CAN see in, which tells me whether or not they might be able to see into my car. I have never been able to see more than a dark outline of a person--even in the daytime. They could have been nude, and I wouldn't have known.

Hi guys, well what a coincidence, I just did my first nude driving 2 days ago, I live in Honduras, there is no law like the officer said about driving nude, but exposing yourself well thats different. The experience was amaizing but since I dont really know what could happen to you if they caught you nude driving I decided just to give a drive around the block which is very big by the way, so nothing happened a big truck stopped beside me but i never thought of anyone seeing me from up there, in fact i said good less chance for someone to see me at this moment. But hey at least I did it and enjoyed it so you all should try it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd say odds are high that driving nude is illegal in any given location (in the USA, anyway), so a bit of paranoid caution is probably a good thing. I happen to know, however, that in practice and with certain precautions it can be done.

That attachment indicates that person is not often nude without his swim trunks, or shorts with that dark of tan line! Maybe a posed shot? Just to be with the convertible. Real Nudists don't have tan lines like that.

You can still get cited for offending someone, causing a traffic hazard, or even stepping outside the car while nude, or taking a leak off the freeway or road even behind the car door or shielded by the door.

Yes, I believe that I did. In most states in the USA, however, there is an overriding state ordinance against "public" nudity under which driving nude could easily be considered to fall. Those who live in California (and a few others states) are fortunate in that no such statute exists, as I understand it. However, I think this is the minority position at this point.

All of that said, I know it can be done reasonably safely. I do it most days (in the summer). Just a bit of caution is probably warranted in most locations.

It's not illegal to be nude in Canada in a private place or in a public place where there is a reasonable expectation of not being seen ("being seen" probably means "being seen to be nude").

So if your vehicle is considered private, not public, or if it's unlikely that someone could see that you are nude then you're OK.

According to the Supreme Court of Canada, "nude" means "completely bare" so wearing sandals or a hat would make you not nude.

I tried to look up Michigan laws on nudity (particularly nude driving since I do it a lot) and found nothing. Does anyone have or know where I can find that info?

A 46-year-old woman was chased by police from five agencies in the small college town of Alma, Michigan after other drivers called to report a naked motorist. Evidently, this is the a matter of compelling interest to Michican law enforcement officers. The miscreant nudist was eventually apprehended after a chase at speeds of up to 110 mph."

Don't know whats gotten into me!. I was able to spend a few hours at Zoar Valley in New York today and quess I just had this driving nude thing on my mind. As that's what I did. From the time I left until home, 170 miles later. Did 1/3 with the top down and as we with many converts. they sit lower, so I guess I did cheat some and have a towel when I thought the cars I was overtaking or being overtaken by where sitting high enough to look down on me. I did have to get dressed before going in the garage as I had to do some car switching in the drive way. It did feel great however!

So, so.
Many lands the road police have a bad habit to make a just "preventive" road-checks (Russia, Poland, Slovenia and many more) - just stopping all cars in a raw in specially made traps and then driver just have no a time to dress. Next step is "please go out of Your car (to breath in a green tube, show a passport or do whatever)" and then driver have too late to use a towel wrap around.

Just I had been in such situations some times. Yet I have been trained to dress in the shorts while driving at every speed.

Johny, I am concerned for you.
This seems very dangerous, perhaps life-threatening due to a possible accident while getting into shorts "while driving at every speed."

If there is no time to put the shorts on after stopping, I would get out nude and accept the fine or the minor criminal charge, if any.

My car tends to swerve a little when all I do is cover myself while driving. I can't imagine trying to put shorts on while driving--especially on the highway! Any time you take your eyes off the road, there is the potential for losing control of the car.

Cool topic. I wouldn't drive nude just for the sake of driving naked. Why drive to the store or someplace nude, only to have to put your clothes on in the car when you get there? Sounds like a hassle if you ask me and I'd rather avoid having to dress in the car in a parking lot or something. On the other hand, I have a couple of friends who are also clothes-free, and in another case a non-clothes-free friend who is fine with me being nude, and when I go visit I will often just get in the car and drive over. I will keep a pair of shorts with me in the front seat, just in case I get either pulled over or get in an accident.

I only get nude in my car when I'm on my way home. I can't be sure I will have a safe place to get dressed. If I go to my daughters, I'm not going to dress in their driveway with the grandkids looking in the windows. I don't want anyone calling the police and give a description of my car and the plate number. However, I'm not one to worry about what might and probably won't happen. I enjoy driving nude too much simply because it seems so natural. Being nude IS natural in all situations. I can't help it if society is hung up on clothes.

Each state has different laws, I don't even know what my own state (South Dakota's) laws are.
However, on a recent drive from Minneapolis to Rapid City in my pick-up, I stripped down to my underwear. It was interesting to watch other drivers reactions to this. One truck driver would pass by watch me in his mirror and slow way down only to come back for another look. Another couple in a pick-up truck thought I was nude and while he was telling her about it, he nearly went off the road.
What ever laws your state or country has, you'll probably be safer watching out for other drivers. While they may not approve of how you like to drive, they sure want to see you!

I like to drive nude when on long road trips where I know that I won't have to get out of my truck. When I do have to stop, I keep a pair of shorts handy to slip on. When I get back on the road, the shorts come off. I drive a 2500 4x4 Suburan with medium tinted windows, so I don't have to worry too much about being seen by passing by vehicles.

I always wonder about cars that have dark tinted windows, are the drivers of those cars nude too?

We sold our convertible about a year ago but several months before that, I was sent on a late night errand and took this car. Nice warm summer night, top down and completely nude!

I have been driving nude for 15 to 20 years. Being in the north country I have always wondered what people thought when they see a person without shirt on when it is 20 below outside the pickup. We drive a lot of highway miles, I only get naked if the trip is over 120 miles long which is most of the time. I never drive nude when I am by my self, only with the wife and/or family. My wife doesn't ride nude. She is a good lookout.

Nope, everything depends on the car. For example I may tell one fine story from Soviet epoch about motobike team. Those sport-teams allways was wellknown between the competitions them abuse an alkohol.
And lo!, this team are going with big 70 place bus, those Hungarian "Ikaruss-255" when bus driver cant stay more in peace and say to guys - listen you - why you are boozing but not offering it to me? Those bikers replies - oh dear driver - You cant booze, YOU ARE AT THE STEER...

Ye, those Ikarusses You know are extra inertial actually, if to release the steer perhaps it shall go many kilometers long before trajectory shall become to decline.

So, choffer came OUT of his place (buss is still going at 100 per hour by the inerce), he is going some five steps into salon and says loudly - NOW I AM NOT AT THE STEER - do you NOW shall drop me something to rinse the throat?

I heard this story from those guy who gave him a bottle. Need to say, choffer emptified it (0,5 liters, 40 grades) at neck in few secods, and sat back to drive full face of happiness.

At least this his trip ended without of any tragedies. High individual mastery, need to say?
However this was not a story about the alkohol - just about the steer wheel.

I have enjoyed driving nude many times. My favorite would have to be driving a convertible naked with the top down in Hawaii. No one really paid much attention with the exception of the Japanese tourist in the sightseeing trolley I passed as I turned at an intersection. I love the feeling of freedom...

Not sure I would be comfortable driving nude where there are so many uncontrollable aspects such as crashes, other drivers, law enforcement and other things.

Would be a great way to travel and most comfortable for sure, but just not a correct act in these days. But maybe a good long country road would do fine!

I admit it. I like to drive nude, but only if I can do the entire drive from door to door nude. I'll keep either a pair of shorts handy, or a towel to toss over me if needed. The closest I've come to riding nude in a convertible was when I rode in a friend's army surplus jeep across his farm. I was more concerned about being ejected from all the bumps and ruts that I can't say I enjoyed it all that much.

I spent half a day this weekend driving NUDE on my TRACTOR around the farm. Sometimes its not what its "cracked up to be". I was driving around repairing the electric fences and took a few shortcuts through some scrub. Unfortunatly one of the bushes that the tractor was pushing over was full of some flying biting ants. Needles to say some bit me. I "decamped" the tractor very quickly to get them off - no serous damage.

After a full day at a nudist resort i have a very difficult time putting clothes back on so a couple of times i have driven home nude, though i keep a pair of shorts close by for quick cover. I have only driven naked at night, so i don't have to worry about anybody seeing in and reporting it to the police.

While the longest distance I've driven nude is nearly 1,200 miles (except for three stops), I recently went to a local nudist resort with someone else. Since I was going from one nudist place to another, I saw no need for clothes.

It's called Gulf Coast Nudist Resort in Hudson, Florida. I hadn't heard of it until someone took me there. It's small and mostly adults. I saw no children and a couple of teen girls, which means it was nice and quiet; I LIKE quiet! It has a tiny clubhouse with no pool table! There are a lot of very nice homes there. The people were friendly enough. They let us spend the day there without charging us anything; I also like FREE! Surprisingly, their membership is higher than Lake Como.

We enjoyed the hot tub (especially me since I hadn't been in one in a LONG time) and the swimming pool. The hot tub is large, and the pool is average in size and ranged from 3 feet to 6 feet deep. It rained very heavily there for a short time, and I would have stayed out in it but didn't want to ruin my sandals or soak my towel and not be able to use it. Florida rain is a lot warmer than Michigan rain. Both the pool and tub have clorine rather than bromine which for some reason unknown to me seems to be getting popular.

I had a very nice long nude walk around the resort and checked out the homes. I told someone in the office that I hoped I hadn't walked any place where I wasn't supposed to, and she said that it was OK to walk through the residential area as long as I was nude! She said the people get uncomfortable if clothed people walk through their areas. If she knew me she would have realized how ridiculous it was to say that to me. I told her that being nude was no problem since I hate wearing clothes.

They have a cold water shower in the pool area and two regular showers just outside it and restrooms near the pool. I enjoyed the place very much except for them not having a pool table. I have to have a pool table. I'm no good at it, but I enjoy playing anyway.

I also went to Lake Como and plan on getting a membership there. They have a very nice pool there, but I won't be able to use the hot tub since it has bromine in it instead of clorine. Fortunately the pool has clorine in it. I liked Lake Como very much, but they've got so many homes that there's not a lot of room left for walking. They do have boats that can be used at no extra cost. They also have a very nice restaurant by the pool with good food and very generous portions.

Tomorrow morning.......the routine continues. I'll get up, wash my face, brush my teeth, brush my hair, grab my shorts and a t shirt.....walk downstairs, open the garage door, start my SUV, grab my sunglasses and cell phone, throw my shorts and shirt in the truck and climb in naked.

Pull my car out, head down the road with a short stop at Starbucks for a cup a JO, gotta get dressed for the stop, get back in the car, strip and get on the freeway for a 20 min drive to work. About two blocks out of the station, I slip on my shirt and shorts and pull into the parking lot and back to work for another 24 hr. shift.

I was nervous the first time, now i try to do it most times when i drive to work which is about a 2hr drive there and ive done it during the day and night. I do the same as RalphVa, keeping a pair of shorts on the seat.

I was able to drive nude from Atlanta to Savannah and back last weekend.

The southbound part of my journey was accomplished during the daylight. I slipped off my clothes in my car while still in my fairly quiet driveway. Because it was daylight, I needed a roadmap for cover at times. The interior of my car is visible to trucks and SUV's. South of Macon on I-16, there were long intervals when the nearest car was a mile or more away and I could completely relax and enjoy the nude ride to the coast. I was running low of fuel and not sure of its availability that day in south Georgia, I stopped at a highway rest area, finding a parking space a safe distance from other cars. I slipped on some clothes and continued to a service station. Back on the highway, I pulled aside to quickly undress again. As I approached my destination, I again pulled aside on a rural road and put on a pair of shorts and a tee shirt to greet my hosts. They are old friends, but this was a new home for them, so I chose to err on the side of caution.

Nudity was much easier to maintain on my journey home. I left Savannah after dark and was invisible until I reached metro Atlanta with its numerous street lights. Even so, my trusty road map covered me when needed.

I got home very late, but slipped on some shorts to gain entrance to my house. Then, I was nude again in the privacy of my home.

While on a boat a few miles south of Savannah, I scouted some spots that might make for some good skinnydipping, but the weekend boaters were just too numerous that weekend. It might be more private a bit further south.

Living in Montana, it is at least 125 miles in any direction to go somewhere. I drive nude most of the time. However only when my wife is with me. She help keep an eye out for possible trouble ahead and reminds me that I need to dress before getting out of the vehical. The one thing that has always concerned me is what people think when they see a person without a shirt on in the dead of winter, (20 below zero)? I have been a active nudist since the mid 80s and been driving nude since then. I have never been caught nude except by the Deer and Antelope.

Times when I've driven nude, often for several hours at a time, I keep a pair of loose-fitting gym shorts on the floor in front of me arranged so my feet can go in the leg-holes and they can be pulled up in a flash. Also keep my shirt handy in case I need to throw it over my lap in a hurry.
But it's sure easier at night when you don't have to worry about it.

Same here! Shorts are always at my feet and I drive close to the speed limit. Because my car sits low, I always had the road map handy for a quick coverup when a high vehicle approached.

Night driving in rural areas is a lot more relaxed, but it's nice to be free-driving on a warm sunny day on a country road.

I often drive nude which seems so natural. Today I drove nude to the nudist resort and back. On the way back I decided to check the mailbox which is on the road. There are no houses near the road, and I didn't see anyone or any cars and just got out of the car nude to check the mail. The mailbox is right outside a business though. My restroom stops tend to coincide with my gasoline stops, so I don't do the "pee in a bottle" thing. I like to drive three hours and stop for both reasons. Because the service stations can be very public places, I usually pull aside on the shoulder a mile or so down the road to dress quickly.

The road map was my coverup of choice because it can be propped up against my steering wheel and the sunlight and breeze reaches my body more easily than if I throw a shirt over my lap. This works best in more populated areas of the highway. In more rural areas, one only needs a quick coverup for a passing truck or SUV, so the shirt is on your lap for such a short time that overheating is not an issue.

The only down side to using a road map is that it tends to flutter in the breeze if you have your windows down and may blow right off your lap entirely. But for better fuel economy, I generally do not drive down the highway with my windows down. I use the car's air conditioner or the air blower depending on how hot it is outside.

I enjoy driving nude ,I often drive from my home to the resort an back nude. I've made several long distance trip's over the years from Ohio to Northern and southern Indiana, and nashville,Tn . I have a little problem with driving nude. It's not the being nude part, it's the if I were to get caught part. In no way would I want any sex charge against myself. I have no problem with the driving nude, I wish we all could. But the law folks might not like that to much. When it becomes legal then I'm in.
