I live in an apartment and share a back deck with my neighbor next door. One night while drinking, my partner and I told her that we like to be naked at home and have been to the nude beach. She kind of giggled and laughed nervously (you could tell she was uncomfortable). So I doubt she would ever join in.

My partner and I have gone nude on the back deck late at night (while all of the neighbors were asleep). I don't think anyone saw us unless they were peeking from their windows!

Yes, neighbors on both sides of us, across the street from us and a couple down the street know we are nudists and that we are naked in our home and backyard all the time.

Yes, they've all seen us....or at least me. The neighbors on both sides and across the street have seen my wife in the backyard.

Are they okay with it? They all are still friendly, we talk occasionally or often, depending on which neighbor we're talking about. We've not had the cops arrive at our front door at any time so....I'd say, "yes, they are okay with it."

We plan to have the neighbors on both sides of us over, separately, for some wine and conversation in the near future and I'm sure the topic of our nudity will come up. We are hopeful that they will continue to understand and get a better feeling for why it is we live a nudist lifestyle.

Yes my neighbors next door know I like going with out clothes, in the house and they have said no bid deal. I think they go with out clothes at times too. And more so when it very warm and in fact they go skinny dipping in thier pool sometimes at night I have said I don't care its thier pool have fun .

All of our neighbors (4), whom share the boundries of the back yard, know. So far, nothing has been said. I know they have seen me at one time or another. I finally got brave (a few beers helped), and went around asking them if it would bother them if I was nude in the backyard. I told them I don't wear anything when outside. There were no objections. To this day, nothing has been said (going on 4 years).

As far as seeing me, oh yea, I'm sure they did. We had an above-ground pool and had to get in via ladder. So I'm sure they have, at one time or another.

nudeM I think you have the right approach. It is stupid to sneak around naked when by asking one can clear the air and no more sneaking around. Unfortunately it could back-fire if one or more of the neighbours objected when you asked them. But I think most people if asked, even if they did object would not say so as they don't want to appear as prudes. Also I agree lots of beer helps in the initial confrontation.

We have a 6 foot fence and all single storey dwellings so no worries there but I must repeat a story I told some time before.

The neighbours behind us are very nice people who would like to socialize with us a lot. On the other hand my wife and I try to be friendly but are not socializers. One day after we had come back from Eden Bay my wife was over paying a neighbourly call and they asked about our trip. My wife told them that we were in the Dominican Republic and really enjoyed it and hope to go back next year. At that point the lady said to us that because we enjoyed it so much would we mind if they joined us next year when we went. My wife told them they couldn't go at which point the husband demanded to know why they couldn't go anywhere we could go. Without batting an eye my wife told them that they would have to be naked. The subject was dropped like a hot potato and whenever the lady wants to pay a visit (there is a gate in the fence) she makes quite a lot of noise and announces that she is coming over.

I guess we dont have to worry about them ever seeing us naked!!!

i live in the downstairs portion of a two-flat, with no fences around. i try to be careful about being seen, but i'm becoming less and less discreet as time goes on. i guess i'll just keep going until i get yelled at or a threatening note taped to the door.

we just moved down here in may, so i only the neighbors by waves and smiles.

At first I 'snuk' around, but I finally got brave and went to ask them. Sure, the legs got wobbly (nerves), but that subsided after the beers took affect, then there was nothing to it.

Like NudeM, we used to sneak around after sunset and in the evening but I grew tired of this and began going outside in the day time when the neighbors were home.

We used to have a wooden fence that you could see through. We tried for several years to get our neighbors on the one side with the wooden fence to go in on a block wall but could never get them to commit.

We just began spending time out in our yard nude and one day we heard the women next door say something loudly...like..."oh my god, I can't believe it!" A few weeks later her husband was over to ask us if we'd like to put up the wall.

The question may rise...."why didn't we say anything before to them about our nudist tendencies?" My wife, at first, didn't want anyone to know, although, we had been seen by their sons, the husband and the wife because we caught them peeking over the fence while we were sunning and skinny dipping in the daytime.

We figured they knew and so we just left it alone until she made this comment out loud while we were in the back yard. They've come to visit and have attended numerous family functions and social gatherings and after a couple of glasses of wine, they loosen up and make small jokes or comments about us and our need for "privacy."

We've just never sat down with them and said, "so, you must have questions about our love for not wearing clothes at all." That's where we want the conversation to go in the future over a bottle of wine.

This is an issue that I will have to face this summer. Well I sort of already had one icident. I had a neighbor drop by unexpectedly and he came into the backyard while I was nude, nothing was said, strange but true.

I have and acre of land and most of that is covered with pine trees. I put up a privacy fence on one side and my detached garage blocks the other side, the back property is partially obscured by trees and that neighbor is a quarter mile distant. So I feel fairly secure being nude on my property at least in the backyard but I intend to add more fencing and landscaping. I guess I should have a talk with the neighbors but I also feel like there is a possiblity that it will never come up, then again it could. I think I will take my time and see how things go before I do tell them. In the mean time I will be putting up more fences and shrubs next year along with a deck and hot tub.

I know (because I went and looked) that if my neighbours in the back stand at the fence andlook into our yard they can see directly in the family room which has glass patio doors and a big window. However because we are on a slope they would have to be practially be hanging over the fence to see in - and even though they do (they are very nosey) i don't really care. In fact I'm in their now, nude and I know they are in their backyard(they have a very noisey leaf blower_so they may or maynotsee me.

Neighbours (Canadian spelling, LOL) cannot generally see into a house via a window.

They would have to be peering right into the window or may see you if an interior light is on.
My wife and I conducted a test. She went outside. She could not see my nude form in the window, unless she got right up close to the exterior of the window.
No light was on in the room I was in, as it was during daylight hours.
Some very intelligent people on this forum suggested the test, they were right!

Im pretty sure one of our neigbors knows we are nudists and dont seem to care. On the other side some new neighbors just moved in so we've been pretty cautious about going out back lately. The people living in the next house over from them have spotted us nude in the backyard more than once and havent said anything about it so Im assuming they're fine with it too.

Since I live in a rural area on a farm site I don't have too many neighbors. But on occasion I have been in parts of the yard where I can be seen from the road as neighbors drive by. (the road is about 300 yards away )
I'm sure at that distance they can easily tell that I am nude.
So far the only comments I have heard were by a neighbor that I am sure hasn't seen me nude. But he has seen me in short shorts and no shirt.
His comments have been very negative, calling me an exhibitionist.
At the time, the situation didn't allow for me to respond without causing more harm than good. So I just let it go untill I have a one on one conversation with him. I think he was just trying to be funny, but I need to have a conversation with him if it comes up again.

Thanks for all the responses. I could not be outdoors nude even if the neighbors did not mind. The police arrested a woman for gardening in just a tshirt nearby. Its seeing me in my
kitchen through the patio door that concerns me.
Not that Im nude but whether they find it offensive. Also if somebody comes to the door when Im in the kitchen or hallway I could be seen. I wish I could be nude outdoors at home, if anyone knows of a place close to western suburbs of chicago please let me know.

That is great that you were up front with the new prospective neighbor about your nudity. I know that if we were house hunting, privacy and a nude-able yard would be at the top of my list. Knowing ahead of the purchase that the neighbors were cool with it would be an added bonus.

Years ago lived in a condo, rear yard had a small patio and lawn, but separated from other units by a four foot fence about 12 feet wide. One night in a conversation I told neighbors on either side that I like to sun nude. Both said they didn't care. Neighbor to the east would also sun nude. Neighbor to the west had a duplex so she could see into my yard anytime, but nudity was never a problem.
Now in a single family house, landscaping affords great degree of privacy, but one neighbor can still see in to the pool area. They have seen me nude frequently, and tolsd me so but it ok with them. Found out recently husband grew up on MArtha's Vineyard went nude on beaches ther on regular basis growing up.
For me what's worked is trying to provide a level of privacy, and communication with neighbors

I am not hiding unnecesarry much. Of course the windows has the certain installments, at new flat, but next house are very near so the neighbours MAY cach a glimpse. Especially in higher floor.
Couple of months ago one such old and dreadful looking woman came to me with a vodka bottle saying want to say "hello" to new neighbour. I wondered very much for such un-custom drive, but it would be very unpolite to throw her out, so after third glass she (seems having deep alcohol problem) was near to loose the last brain and told she is sexually hungry (dont wonder at all) and sometimes spying at the window down.
What made me free to throw her out immediately (okay, I find she need a physical support to reach her flat, what I helped with, kindly). After that day we never met, it would not be nice feel - nor to me, nor her.
But that means not that I am quickly changing the curtains to thicker. It would be hysteric reaction.
I had done nothing morally wrong in my ownershipped room to hide, no a law is violated with.

We have the same situation. Didn't have much privacy but our neighbors either did come out much or didn't care so being nude in our backyard was not a problem. We just had new neighbors move in next door that like to keep their blinds open so going out back nude hasn't been an option.

Reading some of the comments of having new neighbors move in, we recently had some new neighbors that moved in about six months ago. They have seen me, I'm sure, but nothing has been said.

We had a major remodel of our house this year, and the fence that connected between us and the new neighbors had to come down (back hoe). The husband came over and we had a nice conversation. Nothing was said about my nudity, although I'm sure he saw me on occaisions.

We are lucky and have a very private courtyard for nude sunbathing. None of our neighbors can see in unless they come right up to our house (which has happened a couple of times). However our hot tub is in full veiw of one neighbor. We use it nude almost daily. It has always been that way and has never been an issue with the neighbor. There's only one neighbour that overlooks my private nudist balcony, the house next door. That was empty after the old lady died but it was bought by two men last year and has been undergoing serious renovation work throughout the summer, so most of the time I had plenty of privacy to sunbathe nude.
However, this next summer the house will be completed and there will be people there a lot of the time if not all the time. We get on very well with both of them and have dropped hints that I like an all over tan, they just grin when I tell them that so I don't think there will be a problem. We will see come summer, I keep hoping that they're nudists too.

Other than that one young woman neighbour I came face to face with one late afternoon when she came unexpectedly to see my wife. She has made no comment about the incident though she was a bit embarrassed at the time. So she now knows I like to go without clothes.

The "older" lady that lived next door caught me a number of times sunny or working out on the deck. It never seem to be an issue for her and since she was very social in the neighborhood I am sure a number of our neighbors are aware of our home nudity.

While eating my breakfast a few days ago I took a look out of our apartment window to see what the weather was like. It was very windy and I heard the wind howling around outside and thought it would be good to take a look. As I am standing there at the window, nude of course, I noticed that I am being watched from the window of one of my neighbors.

All have been over to our pool which has a no clothing rule to swim, so they are "nudists" now as well.
Even the old harridan came around a while back and I have only seen her with clothes on once since she did.
(OK, so some of the neighbors aren't "nudists" as a lifestyle they don't give a wit if we and some of their neighbors are, they still enjoy the pool nude. But the harridan and the family next to us are definitly nudists now).

So I chatted with my neighbor, the one who saw me in the window a few days back while I was getting my mail and he says to me, "Hey I saw you a few days ago," to which I said "yeah, I was pretty comfortable."

i have very comfortable neighbors. (fortunatley!) i live in the middle of a college neighborhood. last night we had a power-outage. i am always naked at home. when the power went out, i went out to my car to get a flashlight...naked, of course. (yes, it was only 11 degrees but it was warm inside) as my interior light of my car lit-up, so did the eyes of a neighbor. she quickly laughed, and said commented about how perfect a time it was to go outside naked! it was totally dark. she went upstairs, and came back down naked with her two roommates. we all enjoyed to frigid cold for about maybe a total of 3 to 5 minutes...then had to go for warmth again. a few minutes later, another nieghbor came down to borrow a candle. he is used to seeing me naked... although he will not try it himself, his female roommate does frequently.

Yes, the new, curtains are up. Much more privacy, unfortunately though I can't see out nearly as much as I used to and I also don't get as much light. We will see how this goes and I will adjust this if I need to. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

My neighbors would have to rent a plane and do a low flyover to see my yard. Or drive up to the house but the driveway is about a half mile long and wooded. I have had that happen but not the neighbors just friends and family. Gravel road so you can hear when someone is coming and move to a location to quickly go inside if it is someone that would be offended by seeing me nude. I wouldn't want to force my nudity on anyone that doesn't want to see that kind of thing.

My wife And I are shaved nudists and enjoy being in our backyard in the summer. The yard is closed off by woods at the end and an eight foot fence on each side. one neighbor does not know that we are nudists. The other does and has become a nudist as well. One day in the summer about 2 years ago I was sitting on the deck watching TV. The next door neighbor came through the woods looking for her lost dog and walked onto the deck. When she saw me she stopped and told me why she was there. I put on some shorts and helped her look for it. We soon found the dog at the other end of our yard. She then started to ask questions about nudity. I told her about nudism and that we are members of a local resort. She said that her & her husband often went nude at home. They are now happy nudists and often visit us in the nude via the backyard. It was great to introduce these new people to a nude way of living!

Man thats what you call good neighbors. Pretty cool. It would be nice if everyone was like that. The closest ones may have seen me out in the upper 40 working nude but I dont think they mind. Been years and no complaints. Thay are an older couple and when I see them they dont say anything about it. a 6 foot fence with a 6 foot gate between the backyards. We got along well and were back and forth to each other's homes until they found out that we had been away at a nudist beach. They are still friendly but much more distance.

I do give them credit in that when wanting to talk before coming through the gate they give a loud "youhoo" and take several minutes to come over. She wants to make sure I am "decent".

She has probably spotted me naked when she was up on her clotheslinestand and I guess the sight was enough to make her not want to repeat the experience.

I have had neighbors that watched every single move I ever made and would sneak around the house when I was gone looking for any changes I made. Everyone is curious but to be watched like that is just annoying. Have had several neighbors that were like that. I just go nude out side anyway. I have a private yard and just enjoy it as I see fit. If they want to bend themselves so much as to see me naked then they cannot object where I will have grounds to 'grab' them for invasion of privacy.

People seem overly concerned about neighbors. I have a fenced in back yard with a pool and hot tub. If you out of your way, you can see my yard from the upstair window of the house next door. When they moved in three years ago, I said that some of my friends and I don't always wear bathing suits. And then I said, "If that becomes bothersome to you, please let me know." I did not ask for permission. I did not solicit any comment at that time. What I hoped to accomplish was 1.) did they catch me?, 2. Were they offended?, 3. Were they brave enough to have a second conversation with me? In three years, not another word has be spoken about this. So, either they didn't catch me, they weren't offended or they don't want to bring it up.

Since using your own back yard in Florida is not illegal unless you can be seen from a public place, why worry about it?

I live in Spain and have a nudist complex here, we have neighbours on two sides who can see our grounds and pool, one has become a friend of my wife and comes in often and is used to seeing me nude, she now even comes to BBQ parties etc.The other neighbour visits the house for about 2 weeks a year (the gardener comes 4 times a week) The owner is also a nudist and comes visiting when he is about. In Spain you have a civil right to be nude anywhere and cannot be arrested for it. If you were in your garden nude, and a neighbour saw you and called the police, they would tell the neighbour "if you dont like the view look in the other direction" Wonderful common sense.

I wish it was this way in the U.S. People here assume that they have some god given right to not be offended and they will make life difficult for anyone who does something they do not like.

My neighbors have always known every place I've lived. In NJ, we had a 6' stockade fence around most of the back yard and swimming pool. The neighbor to the left always knew to yell out first because she opened the fence gate once while I was using a table saw in the back yard (with no clothes, of course).

In Baton Rouge, I'd mow the back yard in just a t-shirt at times. I'd use my shredder behind the barn door. One day, the door blew shut exposing me to the neighbor getting into her car. I didn't notice right away because of the noise until I looked up and saw her either getting into or out of the car. She was the one who popped up out the bushes when we were having the fence put in along the back yard sides (back was to a bayou) and complained, "You're putting up a fence!" She still could see me down below in my veggie garden from her kitchen due to the way the ground sloped away. She'd call if they were going to have a gathering, for me "...not to make so much noise." Neighbors on the other side would see me at times and didn't mind.

Here in Charlottesville, I kinda pressed the envelope and started even introducing myself as "the naked guy". That was a mistake. Don't do this to someone you don't know anything about. I did so at a housing association picnic. He proceeded to complain about some stuff we were doing as officers of the association and then went on to complain about the nudist in the area. So, I then started to curtail my activities where I'd be visible from the cul-de-sac (our house is at the end of the road). I now wear my "Cherokee suit" (flaps in front and back held up by a strong cord) within sight of the cul-de-sac (there's actually an up hump in our driveway that shields my bottom end from anyone at the road) and within sight of the only neighbors up the hill who can see me between some of the trees and shrubs (these neighbors are presently 3 or 4 college girls who rent the house). Behind the house on the rest of the 8.5 acres, I'm naked. I used to hike trails down below that I've made across several neighbors' properties completely naked, often stopping to talk to some on the trail. However, after the picnic incident and not long after 2 neighbors across the way moved in with 3 small girls. So, off my property I'm clothed in at least my guayuco suit like I found in Venezuela (like a monokini with string ties at the side). Think most neighbors wouldn't care (and didn't when I was doing it) if I went to mail box completely naked.

Yes Ralph, here in Va peole are fast to offer objections to most anything. If you don't fit their cookie cutter mold then you are ourside, and if you weren't born and brought up here, then you will never fit that mold. Slowly people from all other parts of the nation are moving here and that relaxes the effect of the cookie cutter mold people a bit.

In previous home, I sunned in back yard. Only one neighbor could see. I dozed off one afternoon and she woke me up when she dropped the lid on the grill.

unfortunately very true. i live in a highly residential area so i have no chance to be naked outdoors. i also don't really know any of my neighbors, so no my neighbors do not know.

As I said many times in previous posts, I live in a non-nudist apartment complex so none of my neighbors are nudists to the best of my knowledge. None of them know I am a nudist and it would be too risky for me to allow them to see me in the nude indoors or outdoors. It is also my intention to never reveal to any of them that I am a nudist.

I live on a normal urban street, with neighbors on both sides. Having put in a good deal of effort with privacy screening, (trees, shrubs and fencing), I can enjoy my whole back yard, deck and pool area naked. There is only one part of my back yard that is overlooked by a neighbor, and that is just a high bathroom window. Long ago, I decided I wasn't going to worry about that (frosted glass and nearly always closed). I haven't spoken to the neighbors about nudity in the backyard, but since people would have to go to a some lengths to see into our back yard, I just don't concern myself with it. Looking back, it was definitely worth the effort. While its certainly pleasant to go naked around the house, its especially nice to be able to walk out the back door onto the deck naked and go down the stairs to the pool area and swim or lounge around without having to be furtive. And gardening out back without clothes is really great.

Unfortunatly there is a lot of cultural prejudice aganist men, and it is promoted constantly by all the mass media. A naked man is called "pervert" by the media, while a naked woman is called "empowered." We men need to work hard to change that around.
