Isn't Bakersfield the Okie capital? http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yeah that was what happened to my family, the whole Grapes of Wrath thing. I have gone back there a few times and caught with long lost family members. I even managed to work in a trip to Oaklake Trails nudist park just north of OKC. I did enjoy that place, very nice friendly folks and a great number of hiking trails. But for now anyway I'm out here in sunny southern California and yes Bakersfield is the home of many a displaced Okie. In the words of Buck Owens, How many of you have walked the streets of Bakersfield?

I lived in Tulsa from 1983 - 1993. In fact, that's where I started Travelites, Inc. nudist club.
I did visit Oaklake Trails as often as I could as well.

Spend lots of time nekkid by my pool while the weather is good. Went skinnydipping on Apr 16 this year and lasted until Halloween last fall. Would be nice if was a CO beach set aside out at Lake Tbird.

Very soon, Nature's Hideaway will be available for daytrips and a B&B for couples in Osage, just 4 miles from Walnut Creek, all paved highway.

We're new to OK (just moved here from the East coast). We're still learning about the area and are planning some short trips to explore different parts of the state. Nature's Hideaway sounds like its going to be a very nice get away option once its open.

Another Okie here. We're in the south OKC area. This thread doesn't show up in a search for "Okla" so I'm adding the word Oklahoma to my message!
We ride cycles and sometimes go to Oaklake. Anybody up for a ride?

I was born & raised in Oklahoma, been away ten years, now living in Florida. I was a member of Oak Lake Trails when I lived in Oklahoma. At that time it was very friendly to single males. I was single when I joined. I recommend you give it a try. There is no need to be intimidated. Just be friendly and polite.
And if you bring the subject up to your girlfriend, it will be much easier to persuade her to visit with you if you have already been there and are able to answer any questions she might have about nudism and Oak Lake Trails. I think that helped a lot when I introduced my wife to nudism before we were married. Oak Lake Trails is clothing optional so she will be able to go at her own pace.
Good luck,
Bob

No, that would be Oildale, CA. Bakersfield, or the city to the South of Oildale, is now Mexico. Most "Okies" are cashing out and moving to Montana, Idaho, Washington...for obvious reasons. I may possibly move to Oklahoma, however.

There's an old saying, that California got rid of the Okies by planting several rows of cotton all the way to Oklahoma. The Okies would pick the cotton and leave. But due to some non-agriculture wisdom, the Californians forgot about the second picking. That's what brought them back. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif

Ah! The great Mearle Haggard. He and Buck Owens both doing the Bakersfield sound. The I used to see them often on the Bakersfield TV station's daily "Cousin Herb's" Country show. Pretty aweful most of it, but not Mearle nor Buck.
By-the-way, That song wasn't that long ago! At least not to me!

Nearby Arvin seemed to be the starting point. Many stayed in the Bakersfield for the oil fields. Most spread out to the rest of the Central Valley to work the crops.
Even into the 1960's Oakies were looked down on by non-Oakies. I was not an exception. I dated an Okie girl for a while. She was sweet, but even though I was poor, her family was even poorer. Now I am amazed at how we looked at these people who, for the most part, were decent, hard working, and generous.
The Oakie girl and I do have a nude story of a kind, but, as I mentioned, she was generous, and it is not a Nudist story. Almost got me kicked out of the Boy Scout Explorers club.

My Mom and Dad still live in Oklahoma. I've been away for 42 years. Love living in Virginia better. Was living in NJ and roaming the world doing engineering work before retiring here.
Did you guys know that you have a nudist named Big Foot roaming between Ada and Idabel? The Travel channel the other night interviewed several Okies in that area who have seen it.

to all Californians-- we do have many tornados. while there are a few that do result in loss of lives, one such happened in 1999 that killed 40 people. they warned the people that if they were in the path of the storm and was not underground they probably would not survive. while some do some property damage & and the rest are in the open. we do have a excellent early warning system. we don't have nearly as many tornados as California has earthquakes, nor do we have as many severe brush fires. i guess it is all in what you get used to. stay nude and stay happy--I'm always happier when I'm nude---pahjo
