My wife and I are planning a trip to the Tampa Bay area in a few months. Can anyone tell us about possible clothes-optional beaches in the area?

There are no clothing optional beaches in the area. A few people chance going to Ft DeSoto Park but you take a chance on the law giving you at the very least a hard time if not a ticket or outright arrest.
What you will find are nudist resorts/camps, lots of them. There are more nudist venues here than anywhere in the whole rest of the US. These are all in Pasco County just to the north of Tampa. You can read about them here

Cindianne- I am really new to nudism- in fact I haven't walked out of the closet yet-betting getting there. I am in Crystal River Florida- which is the best place for a rookie to try out?

Most of the Pasco clubs accept single guys to one extent or another. Call them and see which one sounds best to you.
