Naked before God (http://www.nashvillescene.com/Stories/Cover_Story/2007/08/02/Naked_Before_God/)

All in all this is a pretty good article.

Not a bad article but, I guess the truth hurts! I found myself cringing at the description of the "middle age" bodies! Yikes-off to the gym here http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

Excellent article. The author is obviously not a nudist, but did a great job of presenting family nudism without the usual biases or sarcastic humor.

Its good to read a non-biased article on nudism.

There are anti-nudist slurs, insults, and marked words in practically every sentence. Good thing the author is non-biased against nudity.

I guess "good" means not really, really bad.

While I agree that there are the 8 negative comments cited by Bob x in the article, "Naked Before God", in an article of 52 paragraphs and 304 (more or less) sentences (yes, I counted them) the statement that "there are anti-nudist slurs, insults and marked words in practically every sentence" leads me to wonder if someone failed to take their anti-psychotic psychotropic medication this morning.

I personally found the article to be stellar.

It may have had some negative comments that reflected a lack of appreciation for physiological differences, but it was a positive presentation of the psychological, sociological and in this case theological positives of naturism.

Having attended the CNC at White Tail Park in 2005, I enjoyed reading the story of the 2007 CNC in Tennessee.

And I appreciated the sensitive and insight of the author into the Christian character and motivation of the Christian naturist. She did a "stellar job" for naturism and Christian naturism in particular.

codytlechien: I loved your post and could not agree more. Unfortunately, some of us get to be a bit touchy these days!

I would say that was truthful reporting, calling it as she saw it. Not negative, but not nudist PR either.

"Many consider nudist resorts the anti-church and, of course, orgy central..."

Many things one could call "honest" but are quite negative and leave a negative picgture of nudism. The author didn't have to express the opinion, for example, that nudist resorts are considered to be orgy central. The message is clear and stays in the mind despite the included denial that the author menat it to be true. With friends like that we need no enemies.

However, if any publicity is good publicity then this qualifies. Someone is likely to ignore all the negative comments, slurs, and characterizations equating nudists with saggy bodies and fat butts, and realize that nudists are like normal people and might even be fun.

Have to say I liked it okay.
Super honest and very reasonably balanced for a non-nudist's perspective. I hope she tries it out for her self and has a guilt free experience.

I agree here 100% TheNorm. The author of this article did not write this article with any bias, and I commend him for that. And he did a fantastic job on explaining the Nudist Christian philosophy from his experience. I really enjoyed reading this article. I only wish more articles like this were written on this subject in this fashion without the obvious bias spewed forth by most authors.

I apologize to Bob for my negative comments in my post yesterday.

I’m reading Henri Nouwen’s book Life of the Beloved. His premise is that all of us are loved of God…beloved. As we experience that, we can share that as a positive encouragement to other. You obviously can’t give away what you don’t have and I realized too late to correct the post, that I wasn’t very good at sharing belovedness. I’m a work in progress.

To a guy with a hammer, everything looks like a nail. I guess I was simply irked that Bob saw only negatives in the article “Naked Before God”. But slurry insults of the guy with the hammer doesn’t help him put down the hammer. Sorry, Bob.

I would just have to say that the author is being painfully accurate in his selection of words.

You probably wouldn't have had the same issue if he had said that they were well toned and muscular hardbodies, if that were the case, so why be upset if the opposite is true?

The opposite was probably true too, but the author CHOSE to mention all the negatives and not mention the positives about the nudity. The author wasn't being "painfully accurate," she was being painfully selective. All she said may have been "true," but the particular aspects and her choice of items to comment on were painfully biased.

You wouldn't say such insults to a woman in person or she's slap you for being so insulting. "Your saggy bottom is getting fatter," may be honest, but its still an insult. "Honest" is not an excuse for insulting comments.

She was more positive about the Christians and chose to characterize them in a positive manner.
Blessings
Bob

Christian nudists hit the church—and the hot tub—for three days of wet and wild worship in the backwoods of Tennessee

She better back up real quick because she would get the slap returned. If someone wants to hit me, they better be ready to get it right back.

A negative comment is never an excuse to physically assault someone.

I guess you read something more into her writing than I did. I merely saw the intro as an effective literary hook to draw in the non-nudist reader. Once the hook was set, I thought her reporting was quite positive.

Good article, but it begins to hinge on sexuality more than nudism and religion, not by the participants but by that author.

Seems to focus or put focus on certain body parts more than the focus being on nudism and religion of the gathering. This detracts from the innocence of it all by injecting sexuality notions through out, and that part needs to be quelled.

Otherwise a good article!

Paul Rapoport, Editor, Going Natural/Au Naturel magazine, wrote an insightful letter to the editor in this week's Nashville Scene regarding Elizabeth Ulrich's Naked Before God (http://www.nashvillescene.com/Stories/Cover_Story/2007/08/02/Naked_Before_God/) article.

Paul's "Cross to bare" letter to the editor (http://www.nashvillescene.com/Stories/News/Love_And_Hate_Mail/2007/08/09/Love_Hate_Mail/).

Like some of the other posters in this thread, I like Ms. Ulrich's article.

It is quite an interesting article...

Haven't been to a nude church service...

I will have to add that to my list too :-)

I would soon be an ex-member of my church if i mentioned that i liked to run around naked...

But, i was born that way...

I would tend to agree wth Rabid_Clam's comment regarding the author's apparent fixation on body parts!

The article was unquestionably written from a textile's point of view. Perhaps she is now better equipped to discern the difference between nudity and sex.
