Is it just me or is nudism getting more air time?
Lately I've seen two new commercials mentioning nudism. One was some kind of insurance commercial listing things that the newborn baby might grow up to be and "nudist" was one of them.
The other was a vacation or travel sort of commercial I think. Anyhow it listed words and one of the words was "nude beach".
I'm sure others have observed some stuff too. I just found it interesting and satisfying to see (joke or not) that nudism is becoming more public.

There is without a doubt more airtime being given to nudity but I'm not sure at first glance, that much of it is "good" for the cause. MTV, Fox, Oxygen, "E" all cover spring break and celebrity "exposures" with the good old American snively, sneaking peeping kind of teenage mind set that makes this coverage (uncoverage?) distasteful to a true naturist. Seeing some drunk coed bare her bosom for beads on Bourbon Street or on the stage of some sleazy bar with learing males all around is not body awareness or top free equality. It is young women trying to be in. However, having said that, I do feel that the coverage of these same ladies lying topless on various beaches, blurred out nipples and all, do give a positive message to women all over the country. If a woman can enjoy the freedom of going without a top in Florida or California ,or Mexico for heavens sake, why can't they in their own hometowns? It might make them use their lil' God given brains for once. Even little steps are better than none at all...just a minor hope...sigh! By the by...making this a longer post than it should be...MTV is to be congratulated for one of the best documentaries on breast surgury I have ever seen and on at least two airings of it they have shown "NIPPLES". Other times surfing by I've seen it totally blurred out. But, this show which was quit fair and balanced, did have one of the most bizarre instances of Comstockery I've ever seen. When the ladies were being examined by their surgeons their breasts were shown and also during the actual operations, the sight of which procedures would make ME think twice about needing bigger boobs. But when they were at home, looking at themselves in the mirror lets say. their breasts were blurred out. One transition went from a full frontal shot of the lady in the office unobscured to a full frontal shot of her at home looking in a mirror and it was censored!!! Same woman, same breasts, same nipples but in the space of a quick camera cut I guess they became "SOMETHING ELSE WE COULDN'T SEE" hnu hnu hnu! Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of tv execs????

Can someone from the media define for me why complete disclosure is acceptable in a hospital but not in one's home? :rrrrr:

How about the "Dial" commercial, where the sign on the front of the bus is changed from "NUDIST TOUR" to "GARDEN TOUR" as a female tourist slides accross the bus seat. This is where the audio of the add says your not as clean as you think.
I suppose the Dial Corp. add people are not aware that nudist sit on thier own towels. /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I think that most people are at least tolerant of nudity on TV and of nudists in general. I think that the increase in nudity on TV is a reflection of the increased acceptance of nudity in society.

I just saw a new one last night...
Dasani. Who knew...water? I think it's about a couple that apperently likes to drink dasani water. Anyway, they're in another country rent a scooter and go to the "woods". They're having fun and the girl starts running from the guy...so he chases her (of course). He get's pretty far behind, but eventually finds her on a beautiful remote beach, where they show her, blurred of course, running into the water...naked.
About the medical vs. home nudism. First, remember that in general TV does not accept 'nudity'. But in this case I do see a difference. In the hospital ones anatomy is clinical. Skin is only revealed for medically related issues and clinical examination. In the home, she was viewing her breasts for more intimate reasons. This is not "scientific" but rather personal or social nudity.
Most of us don't care either way. But I do see the distinct difference and can see why that was done.

I saw a commercial the other night for Mass Mutual, an insurance company. I wasn't paying much attention, but I noticed that various words scrolled across the screen (maybe listing different types of recreation) and the word "nudist" was included.

USA Today had an article about vacationing in St. Barts today. The first few paragraphs were describing nudists at a beach there. The headline photo was of a couple walking down the beach, the woman was topless (shot from behind).

I read the same article. It was well-balanced and positive toward nude vacations. It particularly pointed out that nudity is extremely relaxing.
It was nice to see an article like that in a national newspaper.

I saw that commercial too, Gary, and if I remember correctly, it was a list of things that his future child could grow up to be.

I just saw a commercial earlier with 2 American boys sitting on the beach, checking out the babes, and one says to the other," You know, all the beaches in Spain, the girls go topless. I think it is a law."
Meanwhile, 2 Spainish boys are sitting on a beach, looking out over the crowd.
An overweight, middleage woman gets up, pops off her top and goes for a walk. The Spainish lads look at eachother and one says,(in subtitles)" In America, the women have to wear their tops! It's a law."
just one to share with you. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

A billboard into downtown Toronto caught my eye last week. It is a fellow that has taken a dive off of a cliff into water. The ad is for sunglasses, the premise, that they stay with you no matter what. The humour was that his swim suit is at his ankles and his bare *** is hanging out in the billboard. Hilarious.

Fresh Air

It mostly has to do with the fact that cable channels charge premium fees for viewers to see nudity. Cable can do basically what it wants, and it prefers to charge extra for what it can get away with. They show full frontal on tribal African males and females on the travel channel, but will not show the same on the worlds beaches.
Has anyone seen the latest commercial with a totally nude woman in it? I've seen two different women do the commercial. I generally don't watch or listen to commercials, and that's probably why I don't know what they're advertising.
They are outside in an open area with cars going by. They're holding an electronic game or something that they're advertising. I haven't been able to figure out what it is. Each one is nude but everything is blurred. Otherwise, the nudity is rather obvious.

Jon-Marc, Deb here.... Say the next time you see that c0mmercial, write it down and let the rest of us know so that we can look for it. Would be interesting to see since having cable, I should be able to get it. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Hope you're having a great nude day! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Deb,
I'll try to get more info on it, but I mute the TV during the commercials. If I've recorded it, my VCR blocks out the commercials, and all I see is a blue screen for a few seconds, and then it goes back to the what I'm watching.

This isn't nudism, but I still think it is funny. There is an Icehouse commercial where there is a man outside a government building showing off in front of the news camera during a live broadcast as his friends are watching at a bar. When the Icehouse guys say now for something bolder, the scene is this guy naked showing off in front of the same building with the reporter holding his microphone at a strategic location.

It may not be nudism, and they may not be nudists, but they are certainly nude. That was the point I was making. Actually, the title of this thread (no one ever explained why they're called "threads") should have been "NUDITY in Commercials".

The original internet bulletin board in use even before there was a World Wide Web. USENET is made up of Newsgroups, in each Newsgroup a person makes a post with a topic heading (title).
People who responded to that post would put a 'Reference' topic heading on their post. Thus a post on cats might have a topic heading of "Cats", and the responses to it would have "Re: Cats" as a heading.
A reader would pick through the list of posts by reading these headers (titles) to follow the 'thread' of the conversation.
Soon the software improved so that the computer automatically sorted the posts into threads for you, but the name stuck.

I've only seen one of the commercials that Jon-Marc referec too. It was of a pretty black girl. It's advertising the new pay as you go Virgin cell phones. Her breasts and hip area were blurred.
It comes across that they are nude, but I kind of doubt they really are.
The most recent nudist thing I saw was in a magazine "In Touch" about the honeymoon plans for trista and that firefighter guy (from the bachelorette). It said they were going to Turtle Island in Fiji and boasted about the 18 beaches with one reserved for nudity.

Here in T-town we have a radio spot for "cupid.com" that features nudism. of course, they get it all wrong. The guy the girl is dating is a nudist, but he NEVER wears clothes, only a watch. As she waits for him to pick her up for a date, she talks with a girl friend who asks, "Where should I look?" Her response, "look at his watch." When he arrives she comments surprised, "My! What a Big Watch!" It comes off funny, but makes nudists sound like the "undatable" type. And, of course, makes nudists seem to be uncaring about simple civilities like wearing clothes when appropriate.

TXK NUDE: Nice commercial. It has been running over here for quite awhile now (the nude guy who shows up wearing only a watch). At first, I couldn't believe what I heard, but after a couple of other times, I got the message.
I have seen other nudist commercials on TV, so I guess that the advertising executives are beginning to find out that nudity is somewhat acceptable, if it is kept clean.

I saw another one the other day for the game "the Sims bustin out" It has this sim and hes deciding what to do for the night he looks at a joging suit and a disco outfit, but he sees girls making fun of him, so then the next seen he's naked and the girls are laughing at him again but then they realise they're naked to and so is eveybody else, and the last thing shown is the guy sim with a big smile on his face.

A comercial I saw tonight while watching Saturday Night Live has a woman standing on the street, nude, with her breasts blured and holding a phone srategically over her lower section. I don't remember what she was advertising, because I wasn't paying attention to it at first, but it is ironic that her last line was...."Now that should get your attention!" /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We're way ahead of you. This one has already been mentioned. There are two different women doing that commercial, one white and one black. They appear to be nude, but are they really?

There's a commercial running now that shows a bunch of attractive ladies inviting a couple of guys to a "streaking party." Cut to the party scene and the ladies are streaking their hair with some sort of hair product. DING-DONG, the door bell rings and when the door is opened we see two hapless guys, naked, thinking they're going streaking!

In Australia, we sometimes get TV shows along the lines of "The World's Best Commercials for Adults Only", screened not before [I think] 9-30PM.
Some ads, particularly from Europe, feature quite explicit nudity, often in a way which is not detrimental to nudism. Occasionally, 2 versions are shown of the same ad, one for Europe, the other for USA, with the nudity modified or removed for the American market.
Australia is somewhere in the middle, with discrete nudity being shown from time to time.
The Australian govt SBS TV channel shows many foreign films and some of them have explicit full frontal nudity and discretely filmed sex scenes. The govt ABC channel end the commercial stations have to be much more careful, but all show nudity at times.
It seems that things gradually relax and the commercial channels push the line with unblurred nudity, then a handful of people complain and some out-of-touch hypocritical govt minister decides that people are getting too much freedom and it HAS TO STOP.
Right now, I get the feeling that we're on a favourable trend.
After all, for those who don't like it, there's always the "off" button.
