YBN (young british naturists)

YBN was set up to enable young people throughout the UK to meet others of the same age. The group is for those between the ages of 17-30. /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
We organise trips to clubs, beaches and swims as well as visits to youth rallies abroad. We have been all over the country since we first started in January of this year. we have our own website address as well as a members only message board and chat room.

The group is open to all CCBN members in the UK and I would love to hear from you.

How come younger teens arent allowed to join. As young teens may be young but are evolving in the brain and are becoming smarter then the usual adult. Though i do admit we do lack experience but do find this unfair. I believe you should at least try a young teen group.

A valid point Nate90, its all down to legalities, and the way YBN operates.
Under 16 you are a minor and would come under family membership, however if your family aren't BN members you will need parental consent to join.
At 16 and over you join BN as a member in your own right, and YBN membership is a free option.
The YBN group organise meets at various clubs across the UK, so you need to be above the age of consent (16) to go to these unattended.

There are numerous under 16's who are keen on naturism whilst their parents have no interest, but you fall into a difficult legal situation as a minor, therefore parental consent is necessary.

All I can suggest is that you write to BN, and/or tell your parents, then perhaps an under 16 teen group could be formed, possibly!!!

Hi all.

Im amazed that this post is still about so long after posting it !! Though Im not the youth officer any more I am still a member of YBN so hopefully I can answer this ok... http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/beam.gif

The legal issues are the reason for the group setting an age at 16 and even then we may need parents permission to attend events or join British Naturism.

We have had events with members who are only just 16 and we have been to swims and spoken about YBN to people who were younger than that. We would like as many people as possible to join but we do also need to avoid anything which could damage YBN or British Naturism and so we set the limit at 16.

There is talk about organising some things for younger people but they would have to be BN members as well so that may be an issue as you cant join under 18 without parents permission and so it would only be open to those who's parents are members already.

Just to add a bit to what ben said, YBN is a self run group, meaning everything is organized by it's members. Most self run groups have similar age ranges to YBN, with slight variation up or down based on national laws. I believe all the US groups, and most in other countries that have much younger age ranges are run by older naturists for the younger. When Ben was setting up YBN he purposly avoided this, figuring that the members know best what they want. And I think the success of YBN proves Ben right. As a result though it has meant that resources have been limited (and often just Ben), and most of those resources have gone to getting the group off the ground and to a reasonable size (remember YBN is only 5 years old). We have not had the manpower or money to overcome all the legal requirments (Protection of children certificats, criminal record checks, parental permision, ect). This is something that has been disscussed by both YBN and BN as a whole though, so hopefully now with YBN going strong, something will be done for the younger age range. If you want to spead it along though sending a letter to the BN executive council wouldn't be a bad idea.

Also just to say the average age in BN is getting younger. At my first event 3 years ago I was one of the youngest at 25, with the average about 27/28. Average now tends to be about 24/25, with a far greater spread, so progress is being made.

YBN sounds good. Unfortunately the cut off age is 30, and I'm just slightly above that age which rules me out. Shame they can't raise the age limit to say 35 instead.

35 is certainly not old in naturist circles but it is hardly young either - YBN seems to be thriving, with a far younger avereage age, thanks to Ben's hard work over the past few years - all you can do is promote naturism to your friends and encourage more people in their 30s to give it a try and find out how good it is.
