Yes, more nipple nincompoopery.

A poster that was to be used to promote a Tennis Tournament in Canada has been digitally altered to remove the outline of a nipple:

Why do people make a big deal out of this?

My god! Women have nipples! Come on. It's obvious the poor gal has a sports bra on and isn't trying to copp a Venus Williams antic. Next thing you know, bulges in men's shorts will be taboo because, god forbid, it my infer the fellow has a thingy.

Decollatage? Sexy picture? http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I saw an athletic woman in what looked to be a normal tennis outfit in an appropriate pose.

Sheesh!

Ah yes....fueling the reenforcement.

So basically.....to protect the young impressionable minds, let's just pretend women have no nipples. That way if they ever see any when their older they'll be offended and think it's some sort of erection.

I'm suprised they didn't remove the cross too.

Well I'll be darned, imagine, a good looking teenage girl who is also an athlete daring to have nipples? How shocking, the world is coming to an end ..... or else somebody is having a laugh?

Doesn't this Richard Powers guy realise that she didn't show them off because she wanted it, they appeared due to the friction of her clothing? Perhaps he'd be happier to have her play topless (legally allowed I presume in Canada?) or even nude, thus alleviating the problem .. or am I taking this too far?

The man needs a reality check for sure.

Yes, it is legal for a woman to be topfree in Ontario. Now wouldn't that cause them something to talk about!

Do they erase the men's nipples too??? http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

And here's something they probably haven't noticed...

MEN HAVE NIPPLES TOO!!

This may come as a shock to some (none here -- but, rather, those of the textile world), but women aren't the only ones with those dasterdly little thingys.

Everyone has them just like everyone has a bum. I just wish the world would loosen it's undies a bit so the head shoved up said bum would get some air.

Sorry for the minor rant... thanks for listening. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gifJust goes to show you; Nastyness is in the mind of the beholder. You really have to look close to see the impression her nipple makes. My sirt makes a bigger impression of mine when I'm sweaty. This guy needs a shrink.

I am really surprised at the attitude of our norther neighbors to something so trivial and igsignificant. If she had complained, then thats another matter but I do not think she did. It is perplexing to me, and leaves me in wonderment at the attitude expressed, in a negative fashion, of something that is of no consequence -- especially for Canadians!Alanis must be having a field day with this one!

Hi Danee,

Well it happens down there a lot too. One or two women on Desperate Housewives apparently need to have their nipples "erased".

Seeing as this is apparently an ad for a women's tournament it makes sense that they would be using a woman to advertise it. If the nipple in question hadn't been called to my attention I would have barely noticed it. I don't even get the using sex to sell the tournament charge. I see an attractive woman playing tennis. I guess if a woman happens to be attractive then sex must define the identity of said woman.

As a sacrificial public service, I have been checking in on the tennis tournament in question to determine what how often one can see nipple indentations on the players' uniforms. Based on my sampling, it appears that a good majority of tennis players are NOT wearing Nippits (http://www.nippits.com/) or other apparel that conceals the existence of nipples. Therefore I can only conclude that the original poster
http://www.thestar.com/images/thestar/img/050812_sharapova_before_225.jpg
(poster before digital de-nipplization and thus claimed to be highly sexually charged)
was NOT chosen specifically for its sexual allure but because it is indeed typical of what tennis players wear.

For reference, here is the "after" poster (post-denipplization and thus sexually neutral):

This is too much. The censures will begin making over male fashion models who are visibly hung when advertising swim wear and/or trousers. The mere sight of a nipple showing through clothing is by no means, considered pornographic.

COME ON CENSURES, GET A LIFE!!!!!!!

Sorry, had to vent. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I suspect some of this is fallout from the Superbowl incident. Everyone is suddenly ultra-sensitive about female body parts.

I just happened to be flipping channels the other day and caught a segment of the "I love the 90's" show. The particular segment was featuring shots of female atheletes and there were visible nipples on at least 3 of the photos. These were action shots in the middle of an event so how could anyone claim this is sexual?

So, if nipple outlines did not need to be sensored in 1992, why are they suddenly obscene in 2005?

I really think some laws need to be made to protect these athletes so that their pictures of themselves are not needlessly altered and they are not misrepresented. I think its a shameless abuse of their rights to express themselves and be seen as they are instead of being seen as some digitally altered soft and fluffy version of themselves. If I had a picture of myself and found out it was altered by these clowns, id be really upset. These atheletes put in enough effort and make enough money that they should be able to have a say in how their pictures turn out and how their fans see them.

It's evident that certain people have no idea what they are talking about. Her breasts are obviously not "falling out of her top", the dress is not "low-cut" & she's not "hitting a serve" (she's preparing to hit a backhand). The slight protrusion of a nipple is something that most people would hardly notice. This guy really needs to get a life & the woman running the tournament should get a clue.

It is strange logic how despite the fact we all have nipples that just the females are not allowed to show theirs! Are they saying our male nipples are "safe" to be shown?A sexist decision? If they want to be silly...then lets all help them.Lets call for a ban on any public displaying of babies feeding bottles! Those rubber nipples must also be so "offensive" and 'disgusting"!!!!What about pets nipples? Should they be banned also? How about udders? maybe farmers should be ordered to cover them all up!!!

There were two posters removed, but only one was shown in the article. The "low-cut" lament referred to the "other" poster.
