First, welcome to the forums! I'd love to help you, but I am a little far---Florida. I am sure you can meet someone in Cali though to help you get started. Good Luck!!!

Welcome, I am not new to this but more of a closet naturist in SoCal. I like the beach so I go when I can to Blacks, by my self. I also like the desert and offroading so I like going to Deep Creek Hot Springs. I have taken some freinds with me to the springs but they just dont get the nude thing.
I just joined DCV Deep Creek Voulenters and hope to be able to lend a hand on there next project. I missed the last one had to work that weekend. Checkem out!
If you're looking for naturalists, you're in the wrong forums. I suppose some of the naturists here could be naturalists too. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

p.s: no offence intended by the 'gay' terminology

At just about any public nude beach, nudists of both sexes can be susceptible to advances from and gawkers of both sexes. This is not exclusive to any particular sexual orientation.

Hi Abhijith,
I think it's great that your seeking out the in's and out's of the nudist lifestyle. For some it's a "once in a while nude beach" thing, and for others it's a completely immersive lifestyle, so it's up to you to find your own path http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
As far as Black's Beach goes....I am not the one to ask, because I have not been there. Partly out of a distance factor, and partly because I've heard time and time again that of the two beaches (Blacks and San Onofre), that San Onofre was the more tame/predictable of the two. You'll encounter a "gay section" at most nude beaches....my suggestion would be to not sit in those sections unless you want to to be approached. I'm not trying to be politically incorrect....but I have to at least be honest...most of the ill behavior you'll encounter at a nude beach will be in these sections. I wish it wasn't like that and I'm disappointed how the division in behavior is so distinct between the segregations.
So if you're curious, go to Blacks....but be wary where you sit. Look, at least, for a place where there are couples (doesn't matter if they are old, as long as they have their wives there they are straight)....sit there. With time you'll get an ability to guage the "best place to sit" so you don't get bothered.
When you've become comfortable at a nude beach, then it is time to try a nudist resort http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I don't know what that "Solation" place is all about, but the website is smutty. They portray a pornographic version of nudism.
Please remove the link so I don't have to report this.

Hi and welcome.
As far as black's beach is concerned, the place to avoid is the north end of the beach. If you're looking for people who are 'real' naturists, you might want to check out http://blacksbeach.org they are a good folks who are mostly regulars at the beach. If you look for their flag on the beach and stay near that, then you should be fine.
Good luck and enjoy.

In reality the guys that hit on other guys tend to be married men "on the down low" more than open gays. This was proven at Haulover Beach when it was first established. The police told it's creators that the men were there to hook up with other men, as a meeting place. They can't take it home because in many cases they have wives that don't know about their secret sexlives.
The gays get the flack though.

I'm quite surprised at this post of yours, since normally you seem to think before you write. It's very judgemental, homophobic and extremely general in its opinion.
As a straight man from one part of the world, how would you know that any man will be approached by a gay man or men if one sits in the "gay" section? Have you done so yourself on every naturist beach in every country?
Quite frankly, I've seen more straight couples engage in public sexual displays at nude beaches than gay men -- but I'm not going to generalize about the heterosexual naturist population.

I am an extremely liberal and open minded person and have no problem with gays or any other group. I have friends (cliched but true) and family members covering the entire spectrum.
BUT
The very first day I went nude in public, at the clothing optional section of Navarre Beach (now closed) I was approached by a man. We had a long, friendly conversation in which he told me he was gay. I subtely and politely told him I wasn't interested but would have no probelm being friends. I had two other (and less pleasant) incidents after that.. until I figured out I was sitting in the traditional gay section of this particular beach.
I'm definately NOT saying this means that other innapropriate behavior (sex, etc) on nude beaches is gay related.. I'm merely saying that where you sit can (apparently) affect whether you are approached, at least on certain beaches. To be honest, I didn't mind it at all. Was rather flattering considering I am overweight.
Now if I could just get a woman to approach me on a nude beach http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Sorry Journeyman if I seemed judgemental. I've certainly not travelled the globe, my nudist experiences are limited to Florida and California. I just didn't want to sugar-coat the nude beach scene to our new member, in my experience it hasn't all been an unoffensive experience. You have to find the right place to stake your spot on the sand....or the day can be tainted.
All I can do is to speak from my experiences on the beaches I've been to. So to answer your question....
When I first became a nudist my first beach was Playalinda. I didn't know there were "areas" of the beach, so I timidly strolled past the big crowds and to a more remote location, which happened to be the gay section. It took me a few visits before I figured this out.....but I was approached a few times, some were kind and just friendly, others were a little bothersome. I've observed behaviors, specific markers where 4-6 men take a left turn into and past the bushes out of sight....maybe to study plants. I like to take walks, and I'm not homophobic...I figure if a beach is beautiful, it's worth taking a walk down, so I walk into the gay sections of the beaches I have visited (Playalinda, Apollo, Haulover, San Onofre)...I've done this many times. I've been followed, I've been called to, I've been pointed at (not with fingers), and although I've seen a handful of heterosexual couples doing inappropriate things, I've lost count of the number of homosexual couples that I've seen engaging in inappropriate behavior. Florida beaches....they are ok, you see the occasional masturbater, but the rest is generally hidden from view. The worst I've seen is on walks I've taken at San Onofre, it's bad...really bad. I won't go into details, but it's everything you can imagine. So I'm not so easily offended, but I've seen enough at San Onofre that I just don't take walks anymore....I don't like seeing what I saw, I don't like getting followed, I don't like inappopriate gestures and advances....I'm a little jaded by the behavior of these nudists who happen to be 95% gay. And I've heard that Blacks beach is worse, so I was trying to save Abhijith an uncomfortable first experience, I don't want him to be in situations I've found myself in and I don't want him to have to see what my eyes have seen. If he decides to go to Blacks, I want his experience to be an optimal one.
It sounds cliche, but I have great friends who are gay. We hang out...I mean, I was singing kareoke at a gay bar a couple weekends ago and we're going back because it was fun. I am convinced that these gay males who misbehave on the nude beach are NOT representative of homosexuality in general, these are a very minor subset. I don't let a few bad apples convince me that homosexuals in general are this way...no way, I know that's not true. But it IS a real problem at many beaches. I think it ruins the purity of the beach. It puts a smear on nudism. And worst, it feeds a stereotype that I know misrepresents homosexuals.
So I wish it would stop, but it hasn't....and since I've seen it first hand (at a neighboring nude beach), I thought it would be fair to sound an honest warning.

Me too.... a woman has never approached me, it's always been men. Which is ok I guess, but some of them are on "a mission" and that gets annoying. But only a glimpse of what it would be like to be a single female on the beach....which should thouroughly explain why women don't approach men on nude beaches http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

OK....the list. I read more posts and I guess I need to get specific, but I need to state a disclaimer to those who are still seeking out a nudist experience.
DISCLAIMER: Nudism is great and nude beaches are great. I've been going to nude beaches for over 11 years and by far most of my experiences have been uneventful and enjoyable...I mean, why else would I keep going? So GO....
Here are the beaches, commentary, and what I've seen....
::::HAULOVER::::
This beach is well patrolled and safe. There are lifeguard stands and police nearby, it's literally a public beach where nudity is ok.
-----> Erections are uncommon, but are seen. I've seen masturbation more than once here, but the police came and there was handcuffs and an arrest...that was awsome...hehe. In the past there were many arrests for sex/prostitution in the bushes that run just off the beach....that is why the beach closes at sunset these days.
::::Playalinda & Apollo::::
These beaches are particulareily beautiful and pristine. It is my favorite in Florida. But they are remote, and infrequently patrolled. For a number of years nude sunbathers were given citations (at Playalinda, not Apollo) and that actually helped to curb a lot of the ill behavior, more recently signs are posted that prohibit visitors from wandering too far down the beach, which keeps those bush meetings to a limit.
-------> Erections, masturbation I saw probably on a 10-30% rate of visits if I took a walk down the beach. The rate increased the further I'd walk (why the sign boundry is good). Oral sex and open sex...very rare, I've seen just a handful of that. Hidden sex...I've seen plenty of guys disappear into the bushes in groups, but again, the signs help prevent that (vegitation is not as thick on the first leg of the beach).
::::San Onofre::::
West coast...I guess it's a slightly different vibe. I much prefer Florida beaches, they are just more polite. I've been out here for 3 years and still have not been to Blacks (per warnings), but I've been to San Onofre many times. The surf is good. There is a "bluff" which is basicly a sand/rock cliff. Mis-doers like to hang out towards the rocky base of the cliff, you can see them back there peaking out from the rocks (at certain parts of the beach) busily trying to start a fire...or maybe doing something else. Beware, be warned...don't venture more than 1/8 mile south...it gets pretty bad. I stopped going on long walks here, I make a u-turn at the first erection I see.
------> Erections and masturbation at a rate of 100% if you walk south beyond "the straight section". Rate isn't even the issue, it's magnitude....seems to be a common past-time. Oral sex and "69" seen at a rate of 50%. Open sex actually not that common, lots of rocks allow for hidden sex, which I've seen at a rate of about 20% of the long walks I went on (which I stopped). Heterosexual sexual acts were about 5% of the total.
So....there is my collective report. I hope I'm not discouraging anybody from visiting these beaches. They are wonderful beaches, you just have to know where on the beach to place your towel. It's like visiting New York City, safe if you stick to the busy spots, and fine if you have local knowledge, but take a long walk down unknown off the beaten path streets and sooner or later you're probably going to encounter a part of NYC you heard about, the bad part. Same notion with nude beaches.

This was my experience as well (almost exactly in fact), just a different beach. After the first incident I described previously, I had another guy (on another day) park himself on his towel *directly* behind me when I was sunbathing on my stomach. I didn't even know he was there until I changed positions. That was more threatening to me than the first guy, since this one didn't make his presence known.

::::Little Beach, Maui::::
I almost forgot I was here last summer. OK, this beach is easily the best nude beach I've ever been to. It's not only beautiful, but the people are friendly and there's just this overall good hawaiian vibe. The downside is that it's kind of a pocket, with the beach up front, rocks on either side, and a wooded hill behind. Sometimes lookers hang out in the wooded area, BUT...the upside is that locals, and visitors (including me) will go patrol this wooded area if they see anything suspicious. In that way it has a sense of community, which Haulover has a bit of, but which most nude beaches seriously lack.
-----> I was only in Maui for 5 days, so we made 3 short stops at Little Beach. I didn't see any overt sexual behavior. I guess there was the occasional voyeuristic tourist, but more desperate tones than sexual ones. I saw one guy trying to concentrate his way out of an erection, but he was discrete about it and doing his best, so I don't think that counts.
I've always been somewhat of a hawkeye or a watchdog on the nude beaches. Pretty much all of my nude beach partners have been female friends, so for their best interest I made it a habit to spot the desperate males at a distance, panning for cameras, masturbators, stalkers, etc. I've done my best to make their experience a positive one and I believe I suceeded. But after a lot years of doing that I've gotten pretty good at spotting filth. My girlfriend didn't believe me when I told her how bad San Onofre was. Even after we were on our walk she couldn't see it, until I started "calling the plays" for her. After that she believed me.
So vigillance doesn't ruin my nude beach experience....really, it just helps me pick a good spot, or know when to move to a new spot. I spend most of my time staring at the waves, or riding them http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well yes, and no. For example, Central Park has seen a makeover that is unprecedented. 20-15 years ago this was NOT safe. Now it's a different story. Lots of smaller parks are cleaned up. Take the park/place at the NYLibrary. Ok, maybe father out it's still not exactly that but it shows that things CAN be done when it comes to safety without necessarily limiting peoples freedom (like closing the beach or parts of it).
As others also said, almost all nude beaches have zones. The "male" section (gay or otherwise) usually at one of the ends, mixed/families somewhere near the centre etc. Regular (textile) beaches probably also have their zones, it appears much less pronounced then on a nude beach, maybe because it all has to be cramped in what is usually a very small area.

Doc,
I agree with most of what you say regarding problems at the beach. I am a regular at San O but I think you may be over stating the problems there. I go 2-3 times a week in the summer and I still like to take walks down the beach though not more that a 1/2 mile or so. I think the amount of sexual misbehavior is about 50/50 as to the type gay versus straight. I also think the official state part of the beach is very well behaved and aggressivly patroled. The park police have stepped up their patrols and are really clamping down on the perverts. I have seen a noticable decrease in inappropriate behavior over the last month or two. I just think the picture may not be quite as grim as you were painting it. It's certainly not all roses but not all bad news either.

That's really good to know NudeAl.... I actually havn't been back to San Onofre in almost a year. After joining Olive Dell Resort I feel like that's so much more relaxing, I don't have to be vigilant...I can just relax.
But I miss the beach... I'd like to make a trip out and see how it's improved.

And I've heard that Blacks beach is worse, so I was trying to save Abhijith an uncomfortable first experience, I don't want him to be in situations I've found myself in and I don't want him to have to see what my eyes have seen. If he decides to go to Blacks, I want his experience to be an optimal one.

Hehe thanks for the advice ppl, and despite ur best efforts at scaring me into becoming a priest and covering myself from head to toe, I shall first opportunity present myself at Black's. And if approached then so what (will be a change, having failed at attracting the opposite sex, to actually have someone approach me http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)) )
A question- is there any nudist season (obviously not wanting to freeze any body parts)... and are we apporoaching the end of it???

I find that difficult to believe, but maybe I'm just naive. I had a guy proposition me in hopes of me being his new "boyfriend". He asked, "Haven't you ever wondered what it would be like with another guy?" I answered, "No." Then he said, "A lot of straight guys do." and I said, "They can't be very straight if they do."

Well said Jon-Marc in what is so very obvious. If a person is dabbling in homosexuality then their claim to be straight is in serious question. Sawdust
