I would appreciate any first hand knowledge concerning houseboat rentals in Texas, and in particular north Texas. What little I can find on the internet makes it look like it would be very expensive, but before we give up, I thought I would post here first and see if anybody could give me some positive feedback.

Macanudist,

Though we haven't rented a houseboat in Texas, we have rented them on Lake Powell and Lake Mohave. I can tell you that houseboating has gotten more expensive since the first time we rented one.

The average cost ranges from $750 - $2500 depending on lengh of trip, time of year and size of houseboat. Then you must add in gas for the houseboat, food, drinks, gas for toys such as PWC's & boats. These toys are also for rent and range from $225 -$250 a day for PWC's and small ski boats.

It's been a few years since we've rented a houseboat so the prices have surely gone up. We are seriously thinking about booking a houseboat trip with our nudist friends on Lake Mead which is just outside Las Vegas. We can all fly into Vegas. Spend the night, get up the next morning and head to the houseboat. Spend four days on the houseboat. Disembark and spend another couple of days in Vegas and then all fly home.

Spliting the cost makes houseboating much easier on the wallet but as you know, you really gotta like those you go with since it is close quarters.

Sorry I didn't have any info on Texas houseboating. Hope some will have that for you.
If you do go, have a great trip.

Hello "Macanude"

When I lived in N.TX, I never rented a houseboat. But I have seen them on Lake Lewisville. A few of the rental agencies are listed on this web site (http://www.town-mall.net/lakes/lakelewisville.html).

If you don't mind driving up to Lake Texoma, you might check with Texoma Charters (http://www.texomacharters.com/).

Thanks for the responses. I had already found the texoma charters site, and it confirmed my impression that this is a very expensive proposition. I did like the rule they had that said no getting naked before leaving the dock.
Lake Lewisville is a relatively urban environment and I would have to wonder how far a person would have to drive in a pontoon boat before it would feel realistic to ditch the clothing and get comfortable. Getting a ticket or getting arrested is not part of the plan.
All that money may be better spent on day trips to various naturist facilities, or on the solar heater for the pool that I mentioned in another thread.

I'd say that most of the Lakes in Texas are going to be fairly busy during warm weather months. Some have more discrete coves for nude boating and skinnydipping. One place that you can go nude on a boat is at Hippie Hollow (http://www.co.travis.tx.us/tnr/parks/hippie_hollow.asp) Clothing Optional Park on Lake Travis in Austin.

Here's another web site with Texas Houseboat Rentals (http://www.houseboatrentalcenter.com/texas.htm).
