I hate these posts, but now I have question. I shaved my pubic hair, but now I have small red bumps in that area. Looks like I have a rash and it's embarrassing.
I used a new Mach blade and used hydrocortisone cream as an aftercare, but still a red rash.
Any suggestions?

You have irrated the skin with the shaving. That will go away in time but be careful to look often to be sure you don't get ingrown hairs. Baby lotion may help with the rash.

you might want to try an over the counter antibacterial lotion. i sometimes use neosporum.

I use a female razor that doesn't cut as close as a mach3. But my girlfriend uses a mach3. I shave with the grain and she goes against. We both apply a moisturizing cream to help keep the skin soft. This helps the red bump problem. We still get them if we get a little sweaty there. Ofcourse keeping a good tan helps toughen the skin which helps too.

If you want the smooth look with a lower chance of irritation, try using the sideburn/beard trimmer of an electric razor and shave in the direction of growth. In other words, most hair does not grow straight out, but rather at a slight angle, so when saving be sure to "draw" or "stroke" the razor in the direction the hair lays. Don't go against the pattern of growth OR use a dull (old) blade because this "pulls" the hair up before cutting it.
You will get better results.
This results in a nearly smooth look that will last for a few days while the hair grows out. Once it has grown long enough to repeat the process, you are all set! Hair that is to short should not be shaved as the red bump irritation will likely return.

I quit shaving because of the battle of red bumps on my chest. I tried waxing but that got expensive and eventually still had the red bumps. I tried many things and love being smooth but the bumps and the itching wasn't worth it.

When I first started shaving there, I got red bumps, too. A product called "Bikini Line" seemed to help.
Once you tan good there, they'll probably go away, too, because if it's open to the sun enough to tan it's also being aired out nicely to keep bacteria from growing.

What about using products like Nair?

Nair is a chemical hair dissolving lotion. It’s like using paint remover, and it stinks of hair break down, and chemical reaction. I do not think it’s meant to use on genitals or male testicle sacks or any really sensitive skin areas. The instructions warn you to only use for minutes and abide by them or you will end up with painful chemical skin burns and possible infected hair follicles.

Nair would be the worst mistake you ever make, it WILL burn and as Gary says the label even warns against using it anywhere near your gentals or anal regions.

Try Never Shave Again (http://www.nevershaveagain.com).
The product they sell is a permanent hair removal system. I haven't tried it yet but will soon when finances are better.

Ricky B -- i've been shaving about 10 years now. I found that a good clean razor is the best start -- if they get dull, they irritate more. After I get out of the shower, I use Gold Bond Medicated Lotion over the area. Has a bit of a tingle to it but works nicely to keep down the bumps. Good luck!!

As others have said, bumps happen. But they do go away and will become less and less with each time as your skin gets used to it.
As for Nair, I have used it and use the roll on (extra strength) above my penis. As of now, I just shave the rest. But I have used the regular Nair for Men on my scrotum and found if I didn't leave it on too long, it worked without hurting. Now the roll-on was excrutiating.

I suffered these for years, and they kept me from staying smooth http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif
The answer is one of those scruffy, but usually puffy shaped things called a loofah, or other rough surface sponge.
Whatever you use, the idea is to exfoliate the skin!!
This removes oils and the dead skin to allow the hair to have a clear path back to the surface.
I did this once and the bumps were almost immediately gone! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

Well I hope they changed the formula; I used regular Nair many years ago on the base of the penis and scrotal sacks and before the recommended couple of minutes, it felt and smelled like someone was holding a lit Zippo lighter down there.
Anything chemically that dissolves hair without chemical burning sensitive skin must be something new. I would sure do a test patch in another area of sensitive skin prior to trying "Nair for men" or "Veat"
And if like the warning from Nair attached below I would not attempt to use on the scrotal sacks, penis or genital areas as they warn Not To!

All I use is my Braun 5770 electric, and have never had a problem.

When I started, I had red bumps and a rash. I used a Mach 3 and shaved in the shower. I then used hyro-cortzone cream as an aftercare.
The rash will last for awhile and then go away. I suggest getting a tan, it helps.

I had serious problems with red bumps on my chest. I finally just let it go hairy.

I have been shaving ball sack and penis shaft for a month now using a Mach 3 vibrating razor and regular shaving cream. I do this every second or third day. I leave the mat of hair above the penis alone although I did shorten it a tad with scissors.
So far no red bumps or ingrown hairs. I may be a lucky one as my hair is blond and quite fine. The itch left after the first 10 days.
So far so good and I wish now I had started shaving long ago.

I really cannot understand those who persist in removing their pubic hair when they know it causes them severe irritation and discomfort.

I had the same problem when shaving my face, but my skin got used to it eventually, same with my public hairs.
