View Full Version : What's the obsession with shaving?

OK let's face facts...I am a pretty hairy person. I mean, I don't look like a gorilla or anything but I have a significant amount of hair on my chest, abdomen, arms, legs, etc. Why on earth would I go through the trouble to shave all that and deal with the agony of when it grows back? I would consider trimming the hair 'cause that is pretty easy and is kind of like mowing the lawn...it makes everything neat and clean...but I see pics all the time of people who are just hairless and I can't imagine all these people were born without hair. Anyway, so what's up wit dat? :-D
For yourself: Do you prefer hair or no hair?
For someone else: Do you prefer LOOKING at hair or no hair?
Thanks for sharing.

I do shave myself but, I do not care one way or the other if someone else does.
I look at it almost as a different hair style.
Not everyone has the same hair cut so why should we all have the same grooming habits.
Do whatever you like for youself.
Some people look better with a little hair and other seem better shaved.
I believe it is probably more of an attitude thing for most people.
Something close to either wearing a hat or not.
No one else really cares.

It's a personal preference. Just as shaving facial hair. Some men shave, some men don't. Personally, it doesn't matter to me either way what a person were to decide. It's 'their' body, not mine. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/smoking.gif

Like nudem said, its just a preference. I prefer to be completely smooth i like the feel and look. if you prefer to trim then thats your choice. Its like our preference to being naked as opposed to being clothed or someone who prefers jazz as opposed to classical, makes no difference what they like if its important to them then thats all that matters.

Why use the word "obsession?" It's like asking, why are you obsessed with; brushing your teeth, brushing/combing your hair, shaving your face..........
What's the obsession with threads criminalizing "shaving!?" http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/rolleyes2.gif

My Thoughts Exactly.
There are plenty of threads about shaving. We don't need any new ones asking the same questions.

I used the term because everywhere I look there are guys who are completely shaved and I just couldn't believe that many people are hairless. It's like the newest fad now. There are now shavers specifically marketed to men for all over shaving which on the one hand I think is cool but on the other hand there are like 5 or 6 different types. It really only takes one. :-) Anyway, that's all. Not trying to make it sound criminal. I also wasn't trying to just ask the same questions...my aim was more to why it was suddenly popular. People can certainly do whatever they want to do. I am interested in the fact that a lot of folks are "into" it now.
To shave, shave in some places or to not shave at all are choices that we all make. Personally, I think that the body of an adult looks looks best with pubic hair. Shaved pubic regions look too much like a stage of puberty hasn't been reached. For an adult, that doesn't look too natural.
If magazines are considered reliable evidence, the practice of shaving pubic hair seems to be more in vogue with some nudists and non-nudists of today than those of years ago.
I suppose that it is all a matter of harmless choice.

I think you'll find if you speak to many people that are completely shaved or smooth, like myself, you will find that most of them do it because they enjoy the feeling and look and it has nothing to do with the "in vogue" ideal of magazines and so on. ive always done it because i dislike body hair and this is the same reason my partner does and her friends and even mine and they aren't even nudists. there are many people who shave or practice full body hair removal and many of them we dont know about because the only ones we see are nudists. i believe that it is not an "in" thing its has become more of a normal lifestyle choice for many.

Going smsooth is okay but I have tried it both ways and prefer my body hair to shaving. Besides, the discomfort when the hair returns on the scrotal area is painful. I do like to shape my pubic hair in a triangle but I limit my shaving to that region now. For those who do, I think its great but for me, to much maintenance and too much time to waste keepin the area smooth. What's important is being free to be nude whenever possible.

Why does the stream of images before my cortex have a deceased horse, a whip and a beating in them while reading this thread?

i dont know nacktman...
at the end of the day each person has their own preferences. personally i prefer being smooth, and yes shaving can be a lot of maintenance so i switched to waxing, owning a boat is a lot of maintenance, but those who chose to buy one dont mind the effort.
Back to the original question...

For many i feel its not an obsession, its a preference and thats all it should be. Each to their own.

I shave because I like the feel of it - but still not sure if I like the look of it (looks like I"m still waiting for puberty to kick in)

I do it as a tribute to John Lennon...
I just find it far more comfortable - less hot in summer.

OBSESSION? Hardly, no more so then daily shaving of facial hair. I do it for the same reason. To look well groomed, neat, clean and smooth.

Removing the hair on my body is more cosmetic and a bit of personal hygiene, not an obsession. Liked the feel and look years ago but just started maintaining the look in the last 4 or 5 years. Realized on those hot summer days after removing clothes that had to be worn there was no order without the hair. I like what I see in the mirror. I am not from a hairy gene pool so the hairyest portions of my body are the underarms and the pubic region, both of which I shave. Also shave the legs once a month that is how short and thin the hair is on my legs. It is just a preference for me like wearing dreadlocs, which I do. Gives me a feeling of ......oh, well, I shall just say nudest nudist.

I should have been more clear with the original post. My original thought came from the fact that in most pictures I see now - advertisements, online of guys, etc - a lot of guys are shaved clean and I got a kick out of how all of a sudden it was so popular. Where I work we now sell a body groomer...first time ever. Just thought it was cool.

Fuzz, I don't think you would like a kick in that region - I would give up waiting if I were you http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

I agree with you. I shave about every two weeks. Smooth and clean. I do shower every day sometimes twice a day but when I shave I do feel cleaner.
