With the Dick shooting the question of Hunting itself has been raised and distracted the debate on the incident.
So I thought it would be better to have a seperate debate on hunting itself.
Pro, Con or indifferent let the debate begin...

I agree with you, though I am not sure how well it will work since the shooting occured in a hunting setting.
I personally do not hunt but do not care if others do. I believe animals are a part of the food chain, nor do I believe they have the same rights as humans.
I do not agree with needless killing of animals for trophy and the meat go to waste. I do not think it right to hunt animals to extinction.
I do not believe animals should be used in tests for medicines, etc, if there is another alternative.
I know I will recieve flack on this stance, but that is my own personal view. I think those that disagree with me should be vegitarians. If you eat meat bought from the stores, then it would be hipocritical of you to protest against the killing of animals.

I used to hunt often and only for food. I seldom hunt anymore, but I will on occassion. I eat what I kill, except criminals, of course.
Even though 'herd' control is necessary, I won't hunt for fun in the interests of thinning the herd.

I live on a farm so hunting is very easy, just grab the gun and go out in the paddock. I could shoot Kangaroos from our garden. Pigs are a little more difficult. Many Foxes are around but they require some skill to shoot. Quite a lot of rabbits but not worth the effort when there are so many kangaroos about.
We have so many Kangaroos on our farm that in dry times it is hard to retain enough grass for the cattle. About 10 years ago during a drought, in order to conserve what little grass we had I shot probably 300 Kangaroos over a 6 month period but you could not notice any less in the paddocks.
Since then I have given up shooting to conserve grass for the cattle because there are so many it hardly makes any difference. We catch feral pigs in traps and they are shot and taken to the abatoir for meat.
Kangaroo meat is very good to eat, lean and healthy but must be cooked properly or it can be a bit tough. I would shoot Kangaroos for meat or dog meat. I also shoot deadly snakes that come into the garden area.

I live in Texas where hunting is a way of live here. Every October all the hunters necks start to swell up and they urinate on themselves. Guess it has something to do with the rut, but not sure. I got to the lake instead.

I love to hunt. I haven't been hunting in a long time though. Not since I moved to the city.

I only went "hunting" once. Away back in January 1975. On Hwy 12 just outside Lake Geneva (WI).I was driving a '65 Corvair sedan. A pregnant doe and a nine-point buck were in the median strip. At the last second, the buck desides to charge my car. Contact points were the left side of the front trunk lid the the buck's a$$.
Fortunately the car that was behide me by 2 or 3 hundred yards turned out to be an un-marked State Trooper. Needless to say little time was wasted in reporting it. The Trooper informed me of a change in the state game laws that allow car-kill deer to be claimed by the owner of the car.
After the Trooper was satisfied that the trunk lid was not going to pop open, we stuffed the buck in the back seat and I set off to find a butcher. About a week later, the butcher delivered the venison to my parents
BTW, I still have the rack.

I live in west central Illinois and hunting and fishing has always been a way of life. I hunt for the meat not the trophy. That is the way my grand father taught my dad and he taught me and I'm teaching my boys.

Wow some realistic thoughts on hunting!
Here in Montana, wildlife is everywhere. Hunters everwhere too, they bring lots of money into this little burg I live in. As long as they leave...LOL everything is cool.
I have never hunted, but now watching Elk, Deer, Pronghorn sheep (antilope) and those Bighorn Sheep, I'm thinking of taking it up. (I've just moved here)
Back east, hunters replaced the meat eaters (Cougers, Bobcat, Wolf) they used to have there to keep down the numbers of wildlife.
Here, the meat eaters (Wolf,Mt. Lion, Grizzly and Black Bears) still hunt....YOU! I've traveled a lot. And being here, in Montana, hiking in a wilderness area.....is more dangerious then any place I've ever been.
Grizzly Bears just don't understand "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!!!!! I have kids..."
They just don't understand reason...They just eat you. lol
Hope I never run into one....ever.
Oh right, I'm for hunting.
