I am considering opening a gym/health club in Orange County California that is clothing optional, but not sure how the response/membership would be.. Please post if you are living in Orange county, if you would be interested in working out at a clothing opt. gym or specify if you would only work out if the gym was mandatory nude or you would not work out in either.
thx

If I did live in CA at all, I would make it a point to work at your gym. I have zero problem with others being nude in front of me. I would also be member #1. I think it's a great idea but I am concerned as to whether this idea would be successful enough to stay open for long. You would need to find a place/location and clientel to fill that nitch.
I DO know that there are places I've been to that are leased out by naturists for a nudist night (in MI and in Montreal) on weekend nights. Maybe you could use this as an template. Maybe even Guys night/ womens night.
DO post here if and when it opens. I would love to see it take off and even help advertise it over the net.
Steve
My wife was a member of a Perth health club for many years.
She preferred female only sessions.
No-one exercised nude, to do so would have been regarded as inappropriate in that situation, and I have no idea whether or not she would have preferred to.
She did, however, exercise and do yoga nude, both at home and on the beach.
At the club, she swam and used the sauna nude and walked nude between the pool, sauna, showers and changing room.
A few other women swam and sauna'd nude, but I think probably none quite as openly as Kathy.
Some women even showered in their clothes.
No-one tried to give Kathy a hard time on this.
When the club owner, for alleged economical reasons, made the club entirely co-ed, [without first consulting the members], on her first visit to a co-ed session, Kathy made her own little protest by swimming a nude "lap of honour".
I wish you every success with your project. I just have a feeling that a good way to start would be to have separate male and female sessions, preferably nude only, but you may need to experiment with "clothes optional".
When you have an established clientele, which hopefully won't take very long, you can sound out the members to see if they would support a co-ed session.
I hate to say this, but you may find yourself having to impose an approx equal m/f rule at co-ed sessions, similar to many naturist clubs, so that the women feel comfortable.
Whatever anyone says about this, if your club is not economically viable, then it will not succeed.
You will probably find that the media will be happy to give you free publicity, but pick your presenters carefully.
I wish you every success. If you appear to be making money, you will quite likely be copied,[and not only by those who share your nudism philosophy], and this could be very good for nudism as a whole.

We live close enough to Orange County that I would join your gym. I'd prefer it was nude instead of clothing optional, but not sure if you'd get enough of us to make it financially feasible for you.
My wife may consider a nude yoga class but there are some parameters to get her to commit. Such as female only classes and female only workout area. This just keeps those not entirely there for the workout at a comfortable distance from those females uncomfortable with working out nude in the first place.
It would probably save me about $2000.00 bucks since I was intending to purchase a treadmill and exercise bike so we could exercise nude at home.
Good luck and let us know if you ever decide on starting this business. /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
If I lived near there, I would join your clothes optional health club. I think every city should have a place where you can at least swim nude. Where I go they don't even allow speedo's.
I was lucky enough to belong to a clothes optional gym here in Tampa. It is inside of Paradise Lakes. I loved working out nude but eventually bullying by some of the old farts that management wouldn't take are of caused me to stop going.
I am hoping that Caliente's gym will offer membership to Como members when it opens, which should be in about a month.

I would make it a point to come to your gym at least once a week. I work in L.A. but commute to BFL. One thing I would like to see in a clothing optional gym would be a matching system that would pair up workout partners with the same basic strength levels and goals. You could have a poster board where a person could post his available times/days and hopefully find a workout partner. Training for muscle mass is MUCH more effective with a good partner to spot, encourage and push you. You would have to keep it from becoming a dating service, that would give your gym a bad rep. (I'm married, have kids so I just want a good workout partner.) Being able to workout nude would be a huge plus!
If you could establish a friendly and accepting environment that made people feel welcome, not laughed at and heckled for not being as big or well muscled than others, you would have a hit. When we are all naked, that acts as a great equalizer. People instantly become more friendly. So, yes sign me up if you really do it!

I'm not in Orange Co., but if I wanted to get back into gym stuff, a CO gym would be the ONLY way I'd like to do so.
Tried one in Baton Rouge. Hated it. Most enjoyable part was getting into the sauna afterwards, nude, with towel draped over me or around me.
Really almost comical seeing what folks dress in at the gyms. Most gals have 3 things on top and on bottom: bra, t-shirt and a looser shirt; underwear, tights and loose shorts. So afraid they'll show something.
I'll stick with my walking every day (usually nude) and outdoor work and bowling.

Well "jnudist"
The last post on this idea was a year and nine months ago. I guess things didn't work out.
The two largest membership nudist resorts in California; one being not far from Orange County "Glen Eden" Link (http://www.gleneden.com) has complete gym facilities as this link shows:
Link: Glen Eden’s Nudist Resort "Gym Facilities" (http://www.gleneden.com/recreation/gym/index.html)
I don’t know if many would pay annual membership fee to be a member at a nudist resort and pay monthly, yearly, or contract fees to a clothing optional or nude gym in the same general area.
The largest membership clothes free nudist resort in Northern California Direct Link to: www.lagunadelsol.com (http://www.lagunadelsol.com) also has a complete gym open 24 hours for gold members, and a sauna, showers, bathrooms, laundry, in the immediate area, and recreation room co-located in the same building.

Hey jnudist, I second that! I wouldn't mind working out with fellow nudists/naturists as long as they wouldn't mind. I have read in some nudist publications some years back about either nude or clothing-optional gymnasiums. Or, I believe I may have even read about some clubs and/or resorts having aerobic or weight equipment on their grounds. It was some time back though as I said.

You may try opening a regular gym, with one night a month or week dedicated to nude work outs. This might work out.
To stay open and alive, with a nude gym, you will have to have a big group of members, and I do not think this will be possible in any city.

The proposal was for a clothing-optional gym, not a nude gym. It does not need to have always nude guests... as long as it is clear that nudity is allowed and that nobody can object against it.
Eventually one could limit CO to some hours; I would advise to advertize it as follows (example hours)
It is required to wear (appropriate?) clothes for work-out on Saturday till 20:00 (or 8pm in US...) and on working days between 10:00 (10am) and 17:00 (5pm)

The problem with it is that you'd be drastically limiting your customer base.
It sounds like a great idea, and it sounds novel, and fun. But you have to have customers come through the door to have it make money. A clothing optional gym may attract some clothing optional afficiandoes, but it will also repel others.
One solution - if you're going to run a health club, run a clothed health club BUT contact nudist groups and offer your gym to them a few times a month.
