Here's a little test to see where we stand as far as body image. Find the largest mirror in your house (a full sized mirror would be best.) Disrobe completely (100% is important), and stand in front of the mirror. What was the first thing that came to mind? Select the answer which most closely resembles your initial feelings.
Let's see if nudism and body image are correlated or not.

I know I haven't a perfect body with the perfect measures but that's my body and I love it, so I am one of the few who have voted the last option.
It's not that I'm in love with myself, is just that I accept my body as it is.
And one of my favourite hobbys since I was a child is taking all my clothes and look at myself in the mirror.

Very interesting question. I know I wrestle with my body image every day, (when nude in company) although it has improved a lot over the years.
I'm working on losing some weight, but to be honest, I still have some issues despite being a naturist for many years.

There are scars and flaws on my body, but I accept it for what it is, a 53 year old body that has seen some miles.
I think it is human nature to focus (or at least remember it more) on the negative and downplay the positive in life. I tend to focus on the positive and try not to dwell on the negative in all aspects of life. The fact that my body functions relatively well after 53 years makes me happy! http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Laura,
There is no such thing as "perfect measurements". That is a myth. What is "perfect" to one person is not necessarily "perfect" to the next person. If your measurements are "perfect" to you, then you should be happy, otherwise change what you can, if you are so motivated, and accept what you cannot change. We are all different, thank goodness, and that is what is neat about the human race. Viva la difference!!

I wonder if the most important underlying "naturist value" involved here is not so much to potentially create some distorted self-image of our own appearance by measuring ourselves against some internalized yardstick, but rather to simply accept our bodies as they are - flaws and all.
I have yet to meet the person who thinks their body is unflawed. I have yet to meet a body that isn't beautiful in its own way. I've acknowledged before my biggest challenge in the later is seeing myself in that same light. I suppose I don't really know why that is.

I feel the same as Lorri, I think that I look better naked than with clothes on. There was a thread in the womans section a while back saying just that. The clothes designers claim that an attractive woman is one who can make their clothes look great. If you are not a perfect size seven, you will never fit that image.

I've never been a huge fan of my body, but I am getting there. I run a lot, so my lower half is in good shape, but I could use a bit more muscle up top. I've decided that everyone will have some complaint about you, so you might as well just find a way to like yourself before they tear into you.

I voted that I look great. I am in shape and eat healthy (6 days in week and 7th day being my cheat day where I eat whatever I want).
I do weights 4 days a week and do cardio 6 days a week. I try to keep myself in shape by living a healthy lifestyle. Living in NYC is a blessing in disguise since I must walk EVERYWHERE. NYCers walk walk walk walk and that is great way to remain in shape.
I also eat 5x/day (5 small meals) which keeps me from eating crap and keeps me full all throughout the day.

What do other members of this forum do to stay in shape?
I definitely could afford to lose a little weight. No, make that a lot of weight. Probably 20 or 30 pounds of weight. I do push-ups and stomach crunches each morning, about 30 of each. It isn't enough to keep my waist from gradually expanding but I would probably be in far worse condition if I stopped exercising altogether. I used to run but stopped because of knee problems. I lost a lot of weight by doing 40+ mile road bike trips on weekends; however, I stopped after several cyclists were killed in accidents on local roads.
Based on their avatars, some of the members of this forum are in very good physical condition. I recall Ben_m stating that he runs. My guess is that Tanall lifts weights.
So, what exercise routines do the members of this forum recommend?

Luckily, I have a trainer. He is great and pushes me. I workout with my trainer 3x/wk doing weights and abs. I do workout 6 days in the week. On days I am not with my trainer, I am doing cardio.
In terms of cardio, it varies. Sometimes I run, depending on weather. Most of the time, I do 30 minutes of cardio either through stairmasters or elliptical. I always, before amy workout, run on treadmill for 10 minutes to jump start my heart.
My gym offers spinning classes and I take a spin class 2x/wk. Spinning is a GREAT GREAT GREAT cardio workout. If you ever want a great cardio workout to push you, try spinning. I guarantee you that you will sweat like a pig. For those who do not know, spinning is high cardio workout on a bike. Great leg workout. In course of spinning, you pedal fast as you can, go up hills by increasing resistance etc etc. Great leg and glutes workout. I love spinning.
I also eat properly 6 days in the week and my 7th day is a cheat day where I eat whatever I want. I eat 4-5 small meals a day, 3 of the meals are solid and 2 are just protein shakes. Also, one of the things that help me keep wait off is eliminating carbs after 5:00 PM. After 5, my meals are strictly protein and veggies. On my cheat day, I eat whatever I want. It can be McDonalds, chinese food, and my favorite, soul food. My philisophy is that for most of the week, I eat right and I exercise hard, I can afford to reward myself.
Also, I have eliminated certain things from my diet. I do not drink soda or juice anymore. My beverages are strictly water or Vitamin Water. I am unsure how available vitamin water is in other areas but it is preferred drink of many NYCers. It is juice that is mostly water. Unlike juice, vitamin water is not loaded with sugar (only 5grams of sugar) or carbs (5grams). Makers of vitamin water claim it is high in vitamins but I do not believe that. I drink it as a replacement for juice.

As I stated earlier in the thread, I'm not sure what some of this means as I think the real key is to simply be happy with ourselves however and whoever that may be. But, for whatever it's not worth, my "routine" varies based on season as I hike/trail run for 2-4 hours every day during the summer (typically about 8-15 miles). During the winter I go to the gym and swim 1/2-1 mile and run 8-10 miles. I do about 500 push-ups and stomach crunches each every day. In truth, I still wish I could do more/better in some ways, but realistically, at 41, I know I'm DARM lucky to even be able to do what I do. I will miss it when I'm no longer able and I know that day will come.
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">So, what exercise routines do the members of this forum recommend </div></BLOCKQUOTE>I'm no expert (to put it mildly), but I think you have to find and do whatever works for you (assuming that's something - I also think there's something to be said for simply being happy the way things are). Personally I detest lifting weights, just doesn't work for me. I can't even stand running on a treadmill, ironically enough, and despite the fact I have one and can and have on occasion run on it (nude, of course). I think you have to do what you want/enjoy whatever that might be or it's awfully difficult to find the motivation to do it at all.
Hopefully this at least makes sense, even if it has little reason for being (said at all),

You have to understand that Ben and I do what works for us, most importantly, what is best for us.
You must find an exercise routine that works for you and fits your lifestyle. Do you enjoy swimming? If so, go to the pool every day and swim. Swim is GREAT leg and arm excercise, and you are working your abs as well.
I enjoy hiking so in summer, when I can, I may hike for few hrs. Key is to start slow and work your way up.
A friend of mine hates hates hates hates going to the gym but he loves cycling so he works out every morning with a 5 miles bike ride. My mom is the same so she takes brisk walks every morning, for an hr.
My workout routine works for me b.c I am always thinking about my end goal. I never forget it and it pushes me to continue what I am doing. It also helps that my gym is filled with perfect bod types, many are actors and models...When I see them, it drives me to work harder.

Oh dear woe-mates.
The excess of fat is strolling over the Planet seeking the next sacrifice. I am not willing to be sacrifized for such caprice of the sitting job. Therefore I just try to have, as physically active I am able for, the lifestyle at my free time.
So, if my "pregnancy" at my worst shape is about `7~th month`, then at my best shape it counts down to the `3~rd month`. Today its again bit worser (oh why those cakes are so damn tasty....) I am about 5~th "pregnancy" month - its time to work stomack off.
One I know sure - its no matter to beat it off by hunger-tours. After such slimming technique the `His Majesty Fat` is coming back with the double speed and power.

This is a really interesting topic!
When I was 25 years younger I was a very young adult and an energetic ball of insecurities, anxieties and bravado. On the one hand I knew I had a "young" (and thin, and possibly attractive) body but I didn't have the settled feeling of 'self' or feeling of well-being that I have increasingly developed with advancing age.
I'm now 40 pounds heavier (at least) with enough surgical scars to make a patchwork quilt envious - and could shed 25 pounds if I really tried to. The thing is, I'm quite happy "as is".
Cheers to all!

While I am reasonably happy with my body the only thing I would (can) change is to flatted my gut! While I am a member of a local gym, I need someone to keep on me. A drill instructor, so to speak.
But there is another way to look at this as well...something most of you-all take for granted...what I'd like to change but cannot. Mostly because that's the way God made me.
I would love to change my right leg and foot so they are a mirror image of my left leg and foot...including range of movement.
I would love to change my ears so I hear normal human sound ranges...without $1500.00 worth of eletronics. And I really need two. And I still don't hear everything I should.
And that was only two things. I could go on. Outside of that, yes, I am happy the way I am.

Well I could stand to lose a few pounds.
I think I would like to have back my metabolism lol. I still have the appetite I did when I was 20 something but not the ability to burn all those calories. I do work out but you know how it is, you have to do twice as much to burn half as much. I think I should just go on an air diet, lol! Over all not that dis-satisfied but still could satnd to lose those extra pounds.

I voted the middle choice, as I have put on an extra tire since my avatar photo was taken (too much working in front of the computer). My daughter has taken to playing with my stomach fat, which really pisses me off. I told her I am going to get her back when she is 38 and I will pick on her stomach. A little exercise would work wonders for me, maybe when I can work less, I can than take care of the spare tires...

I hear ya florida-david! Computers are great tools, but they can be hell on the waistline for those of us that work in front of them 8+ hours. <ARGH>

Sounds familiar -- my father had always pledged revenge (in reverse) on me. When I was a youngster , he said that when he got old and under the guise of senility, he would come over to my house and draw on my walls, break things, etc.
He's 84. In good physical and mental health. I have to admit, I am still frightened (a little) of the prospect. And he still reminds me occasionally that he's gonna do that.
So, perhaps you should threaten the same with her... it might make her stop...
But ... hey, David - do you REALLY get ticked when she does that? Come on now...I'm a Dad myself. I wouldn't do more than make a chuckle out of it... and when your daughter grows into adulthood -- you're gonna look back on these incidents with love and fond memories.
Peace to you and yours!

I need to lose a little bit of belly. Causing health problems I won't go into.
BUT, I'm happy to be who I am and what you see is what you get. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We all have a thing or two we would like to change, belly fat seems to be in the majority. However, in general, we mostly judge ourselves more harshly than others judge us. It's a good idea to look at ourselves, but we must temper our judgement and try to see ouselves as others see us.

I'd much prefer myself without this mostrosity of a scar on my stomach but i am aware that a tummy tuck would leave a huge scar as well not to mention the removal and replacement of my belly button, lol.

My body image is great and HAIRY http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. All the hair helps hide the scars from prostate surgery 4 years ago and the hernia surgery 5 months ago. The burn on my right had and arm from 50years ago is the only thing I would change, it is the only hairless part of my body so I guess I am partially a smothie! http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Overall I think I look good for 55.

I am very happy with my body and have a positive body image.
But, I do wish all that hair on top of my head had not fallen onto my back.
And I don't care what color the rest turns as long as more doesn't turn aloose! http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I haven't been on the boards lately, but saw this topic and thought I would respond. Anyhow I realize I don't have the perfect body, but I except myself for who I am.
In many ways I actually do have the perfect body for me, maybe not for the world, but for me it is. I think in many cases clothes never suited me and I think when people see me nude, they actually view me as more attractive than with clothes on, I know for most it doesn't work that way.

For me, at nearly 50 ( next month) I could be well..a little more...naked.
Happy Holidays Rick.
"Not too bad...if only I could change my [fill in the blank]"
I thought that this was a great post, then I realized that we are told to "fill in the blank."
Shouldn't it read fill in the blanks?
Personally, I would like to add a some muscle and take off some flab.
Presently, I don't see in the future my picture on the cover of Muscle & Fitness. I also doubt that anyone in the porno industry will try to entice me into becoming their next big film star (which, for the record, I would not be interested), but I'm still reasonably content with my body.

My opinion (perhaps a bit ignorant) and my guess (which is merely a guess), is that you probably look alright, despite any self-perceived inperfections which you might (or might not) have.
When the subject of a tummy tuck is brought up, I remember, when I worked as a security officer at a large hospital, when I saw the body of a beautiful woman who was in her 50's. She looked much younger. She was also dead after a tummy tuck operation and was about to get the attention of the medical examiner.
That woman had a family. I think that her death was so needless.
Surgery can provide quick fix, but one should always seriously consider the risks before making a date for a trip to the O R.
