Hello, I have a question for anyone would like to reply. I have read in numerous nudist publications about resorts having nudist pageants(i.e. Mr./Mrs. Nude America) on their grounds from time to time. Out of curiosity, I would like to know if any resorts have amateur or professional bodybuilding contests these days. We've all heard about the many resorts who may have naked volleyball in the summertime, bare run events, and the like. But what about this topic? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Ken Palmer

P.S.- I hope this is not an oddball type of question. If it is, I apologize.

Hi ken,

I dont think its an oddball question at all, and now that you mention it it would be a good idea as there may be quite a few amateur body builders around that would participate in the name of fun. Im no body builder but if i was a little more buff id be in it for fun.

May be you could suggest the idea to some locale clubs in your area, offering to co-ordinate the event may persuade them to agree to trying it.

Good question.

Ken some consider 'pagents' such as those as being counterproductive and are not the PC thing to do.

A generation ago in the USA they were commonplace as they still are in Europe, but the misguided attitudes of the Fem-Nazis and the PC Police have forced most to be cancelled.
Leaving a few (and the ones that were and are left are what the Fem-Nazis and PC Police didn't like) up and running. None of which are nudist/naturist pagents but they use the term nudist and thus they co-opt their image into that of nudism and the resulting public image of what nudism is, is tarnished with them.
I mean "Nudes-A-Poppin'" isn't any more a nudist pagent than a cowpie is edible, yet they are known internationally as a 'nudist' event.

A pagent for the 'buff' is not a bad idea but I think a pagent for a Mr., Mrs, or Miss Nude America should be more than a body building contest . Also with the strippers using the term 'nude' in their pagents nudists should use "Nudist or Naturist America(n)" to begin to seperate the two in the mind of the general public.

While we're at it why not have contests or pagents for any number of catagories, i.e., spelling champion, poetry, artistic, BBQer, etc., and so on and so on. Local winners can vie for national and international titles. All is possible if someone would get it started.

****Also, before any get there dander up, my reference to Fem-Nazis was in reference to the extreme and out of touch with reality views of some female anarchists not that of the vast majority of women, (and men) striving for better treatment and attitudes towards women here and world wide.****

Here is Arnold Swarzenegger, nude, as a bodybuilder, and I do not see it as "sinful" nor consider it anything like a male go-go or strip tease dancer.

There was a pretty extensive post on "pagents" in here probably almost a year ago. It became quite debated.

One side said there is nothing wrong with beauty, it's about more than looks since talent is as important and generally felt if our society is diong it with clothes on, then we should be able to do it with clothes off.

The other side felt it was a focus on superficiality, which is kind of what nudism is trying to work against and that pagents in general are kind of...weird.

I think both sides would agree that it is not "sinful" or sexual in any way.

My opinion?

I kind of er on the side of not having them. They sprung from our past, sort of the Stepford Wife era. And indeed they were commonly present at nudist resorts in the 50's and 60's. But we've moved past that...havn't we? They are no longer common, although they ARE present in parts of Europe.....but it should be noted that part of Europe also are still wearing bleached jeans and mullets.

Ponderosa Sun Club has it's own version of a pagent, which is a sickening skew of what nudism ideals value.

Also...have you seen Little Miss Sunshine?

Some points to ponder....
- Who are you doing it for? If it is for the nudists, they probably don't care if you are fat or if you have muscles, if you are a beauty queen or dairy queen, no matter. If you are doing it for yourself...then try to think about a broader picture and consider the larger picture of nudism in this country.
- What image should we project? A 5K or nude volleyball are not focused on one's looks. Pagents are... Should we paint a picture of nudists placing emphasis on superficial attributes? Should we allow non-nudists to participate and invite non-nudists to view it? It's a slippery slope easily headed towards Ponderosa.... In the end....would it really benefit nudism?
- Potential Losses? Play devil's advocate and think of all the ways it could go wrong or turn unexpectedly ugly. Think of the ways it could work AGAINST the values of nudism.

In the end....I think we should try and steer away from things that focus on exterior beauty.

I have to agree with you for the most part doctorSurferDude, but one does like to feel he or she is the best. Its in our nature, and that said, should'nt hurt anyone elses feelings of being less than best or at least presentable, so it is probaly best left alone and beauty pagents not held in the nudist gatherings at resorts.

This is so very true.

I hope my having sculptured beautiful nude bodies from beautiful nude models, is not considered in a negative way.

I have also painted only the most beautiful physics while on the beach at Turtle Lake Resort.

Aha! That's why David never did my portrait!

To quote Homer Simpson "I AM in shape ... round is a shape."

....................

Nearby Northhaven Resort still has its Mr & Ms Nude Northaven pageant every year. It is a feeder contest for the Miss No Swimsuit pageant - a "Lifestyle" sponsored contest. Northaven is an adults only non AANR non TNS club.

I suppose the club pageants in the past were fairly wholesome, if somewhat at odds with the mainstream nudist philosophy. Today's pageants are all so tainted that I don't think organized nudism wants anything to do with whole concept.

You are beautiful in other ways!
For example, I remember that, about a couple of years ago, we took a vote as to which person made the best posts. You were voted the best!
That is indeed beautiful.
