I'm planning to run in the Bare-2-Breakers in May. My wife and I will be traveling from Pennsylvania and would like to see the Redwood Forest as well. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as places to stay that would serve as a good "base camp" for travel to beaches (nude if possible), visit to the Redwood Forest as well as other things to see. Also, does anyone have a suggestion for a hotel to stay in San Francisco that would be convenient to the race an pleasant enough for two adults traveling without their kids for the first time in a long time.
Thanks,
Dave

I know that it's only been a little more than a week since I posted my request for suggestions in San Francisco and the Rewoods. Hasn't anyone been to these places and have a recommendation or two?

Give us a little more clue about what sort of hotel you're looking for and how generous your budget is. Is this a "special" trip, so you'd like something suitable for a honeymoon? Or are you just looking for a decent room?
San Francisco is a high priced city. Just to give you a starting point, you could stay at the Holiday Inn at Fisherman's Wharf--a good location from a tourist point of view. I just found a rate there of $162 + tax. Tax would probably add $20 per night, and there is an additonal charge for parking of $30 per day. So now you're at about $220 per day and you're still at a Holiday Inn.
So that's one example. If you want this to be a luxury vacation, plan on quite a bit more. On the other hand, if you're looking for "just a room" I can recommend a good motel near the SF airport with free parking for much less money.
From near the airport you can take BART into downtown, and from there ride the cable cars to many of the tourist destinations. It's a lot easier than trying to get around by car.
From the airport you'd be further from the redwoods and c/o beaches to the north, but closer to the c/o beaches to the south. However all of it would be quite reachable.

You can also get a Comfort Inn or Rodeway motel room in SF for about $120. One option you might consider is staying at Lupin Lodge. It is a naturist resort in the Santa Cruz hills. Each year they run a bus to SF for the Bare-2-Breakers race. You can even be naked on the bus ride. They drop you off at the race start point and pick you up at the finish. Go to the Lupin website for info.

Be sure to go to their NEW website at:

The old one, that is still listed in most directories has been hijacked.
