View Full Version : How important are clothes to you?

Being a nudist all my life, clothes have never been very important to me. I've never tried to stay up on fashions, and own relatively few clothes. For example, I only have two sport coats and a couple of white shirts. In other words, I don't have clothes on top of clothes. I do however, make sure my clothes are always clean. Do nudists tend to be clothes-horses or the opposite? Does anyone try to stay up to date with fashion, or could you care less?

Not very! - Now that I am retired and don't
have to dress for work I wear about 3 different sweat shirts and jeans for the winter months, and a couple of pair of shorts and tops in the summer when I am not naked. I also very seldom wear socks in winter and never in summer.
I might add it makes it very difficult for family to buy me anything for Christmas, birthday or Father's day now that they have to scratch the clothes off their list.

Clothes are a necessity, in my case, for two reasons:
1. I can't go nude outdoors where i live, work, etc.
2. It gets too cold to be comfortable nude all the time, even if I could.
...therefore, since I have to wear them I buy those that are comfortable and of a style of my liking. What is the current height of fashion would make little difference. If I don't like it, I don't buy it. But..!..I wouldn't be so out of style as to be ridiculous (bell bottoms, leisure suit, etc).
Of course, nothing is more comfortable to wear than, well....nothing! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/beam.gif

I'm in the wrong line of work for a nudist, I have to wear PPE (Personal Protective Clothing) when I'm on site, well I have to set an example as the site manager. We have signs at the entrance to the site:
No hat
No boots
No job
But reflective vests are also a requirement, no shorts allowed, then in winter its outside in all kinds of weather, I'm glad that I'm getting out of it.
As if all that wasn't bad enough, if I had to spend time in the office (Like now!) I have to wear collar and tie, although we are allowed casual Friday, wouldn't it be interesting to see how they take my idea of casual, should I try it on my last Friday with the company?

It would probably be your last Friday with the company, intentionally or not! So, save it until you are sure you want to leave. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/rolleyes2.gif

I have all sorts of clothes from when I worked, as my wife kept me well suited for my work. Retired, I'm trying to stay the same size for health and to keep wearing whatever clothes I have that haven't worn out. They should last forever. Most frequently worn clothes are sweat pants and long sleeved shirts for the winter and short pants and t-shirts for the summer. Only on Sunday morning do I wear my long sleeved pants. I no longer bother to iron them, but do put them in the laundry for my wife to do when they ever get dirty. Wear underwear with them to protect them. Otherwise, I don't wear underwear.
I only wear sport coats for warmth inside in the winter on Sunday mornings. Tore a small hole in the jacket of my one good suit; so, I don't wear it any more. Very seldom, if ever, will need to wear a suit any more. I volunteer in master gardening things. Their dress is very casual for all events.
I've a few swim suits for wearing outside where the public could possibly see me and for when we have the rare pool party. These are Speedos or briefer. Keep some old cotton shorts stashed in various different places for when people show up unannounced and I'm outside nude. I'll casually walk to the nearest stash and put a short on. Even one of my swim suits I'd do this for, too, as it's just legal but possibly too brief for some folks to see me close up. Wear that suit when washing the cars now, at the insistence of my wife. However, I sometimes drive them around back where I can wash them while naked, if the ground isn't too soft to compact the soil.

I could care less. My wardrobe is basically for work and when I need to be in public. I refuse to pay high prices for labels that 'label' Hundres of $$$'s for 'name brand' stuff is crazy. I've got better thing to do with my hard earned money.

I like clothes--I'll admit it. I live in a world where most people do not accept the naturist lifestyle. I enjoy dressing up for appropriate occasions, but I also enjoy beeing nude in equally appropriate settings.

Clothes serve a purpose and are needed. I just happen to hate wearing them when they are being worn for no other reason than to spare others "modesty sake".

I like clothes. Have a bunch of them, like to change looks once in a while. For some occasions you have to dress up, for others dress down. Like to go in my walking closet and put an outfit together.

When I dress, I do it for comfort only. I could care less about 'fashion', and never 'dress up'. I will wear shorts and a t-shirt to a funeral. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

It depends. If you travel in business to Far-East you dress to honor the others. Same often in Europe in business but casual is the an other story.

I dress for the occasion when it is necessary to go out in public. I have several suits and also sweatshirts and levi's as necessity dictates.

Not very, I just need them for work and basically associating with textiles or keeping warm in winter. I usually wear a t-shirt and sweats, which is most comfortable, and avoid pants if I can (belts and underwear are quite irritating now!). The only way I kinda stay "in fashion" is when I get clothes for my birthday or Christmas...

I agree with Swimguy. There's nothing wrong with enjoying clothes and embracing the reality of when they're not optional. It's possible to enjoy both and by doing so, have the best of both worlds if you want. 0.02 x $1

Clothes are not important to me. For many years I have bought zero or only few items of clothing or shoes. I buy new ones when it is absolutely necessary. And I can really can go in worn and unusual (unexpected) clothes in public.

On this subject I wonder if any nudist was ever buried naked in an open casket?
NudstRalph

When I go I would like to be nude in a casket but you know that is not going to happen cause the world we live in. When I wear clothes I'm warmer in shorts then pants. I only wear pants at work or when there is a need to. I rather be nude then with clothes on but if we did go nude we can get in alot of trouble unless it is ok.

Altho i like nice clothes, i am not influenced by the current trends of the market, i choose styles and designs based on whether i like them or not. I have a fair amount of clothes but when i can, i am naked..... at every possible moment!!

Clothes' importance to me?
Humm, well I guess it depends on the day and how I happen to be feeling at the time.

To me not very important at all, but they are to my wife. I'd be happy just to wear jeans or shorts and tee shirt when I have to, I have no dress sense. It would be nice to be nude all the time.

Yeah, on the topic of a nude burial. I highly doubt people will be buried naked becuase when an autopsy is performed, they cut a very big Y-shaped scar into the person's torso. That might not be the most conforting thing for family and friends to see. It serves as even more of a reminder that the person is gone and will not come back.

That is true but most dead bodies dont have an autopsy done on them unless the cause of death is in question.

If the death is "expected," there is no autopsy. If it is "unexpected," there is.

Honestly, since I have to wear clothes to work it is important to me to look good. That said, I believe neat and clean are most important rather then style. Being nude, I'm always in style, right?

I wear clothes to work and when I visit lots of friends and family (they are not nudists http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif )
but whenever I can I am nude. As soon as I get home in the evenings they are put in the laundry and stay there.
Other than that, I don't stay up to date on fashions or trends too much

I like clothing. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif
When the weather is warm or the fire is keeping the house extra warm, then the layers come off. It is not a necessity for me to be nude, just comfortable.

Clothes are somewhat important, in that, we need them to exist in society as we all know it and currently live in it.
My wife enjoys buying clothes and looking nice when she goes to work. We do like to dress up and go out with our textile friends, often, and when we do, we like to dress nicely.
For me, everyday clothes are not the important. I can get stuck in a rut and wear the same thing or types of things everyday. At work I wear a uniform so all I need is something to put on when I go into Starbucks in the morning for coffee and for the ride home, should I need to stop someplace.
As I've stated before, I tend to drive nude a bit so many times the clothes I wear are for a short period of time when I'll be exposed. I sometimes wonder what some of those girls and guys at Starbucks think when they see me in the same sweatpants and sweatshirt or t-shirt/hawaiian shirt and shorts a couple of days in a row. Little do they know that I only have them on for a few minutes at a time and they aren't dirty.
I have a t-shirt problem. I own dozens and dozens of t-shirts. Fire Dept t-shirts, nudist t-shirts, nude resort t-shirts, NFL and College t-shirts, places we've visited t-shirts....the list is endless. Problem; I'm usually always naked so I don't wear them often, but I keep buying them! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

I agree FireProf - Have the same damn t shirts that I dont wear because if people saw me with them on they would know I was a nudist and if they are going to know then why dont I wear my naked skin instead.

Clothes are not important to me except for the practical purpose they serve. I've never been a slave to fashion. When dressed I generally wear plain jeans and T-shirts with witty sayings. I was this way before I found nudism.

Clothes are a utility to be used when needed, just like anything else. No more, no less. But society's made them more than they were originally intended to be.

I really dislike wearing clothing except for protection from elements, i.e. cold and alike. But when I have to wear them, not to be arrested or offend others, I like to look good in them. Not necessarily most stylish but clean, neat, and somewhat today. When I wear shorts I am critized by kids and wife that my favorite pair are too short - 2.5 to 3 inch inseam. I love wearing them with flip flop sandals and a short sleeve shirt in the summer. But then again I am a little vain. One reason I run and exercise is to continue to look good nude...those who are not offended by nudity will see why I like to exercise and control my eating habits --- http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

Like most here. I dislike clothes and the need to wear them. I'm ALWAYS nude at home. I even keep the house warm in the winter to avoid wearing clothes. I'd rather pay the high heating bills. I'm also lucky in that I can be nude at work most of the time. I'm an over the road trucker and I drive my semi nude except to get out and fuel.

I would far rather be naked than clothed, but must admit grudgingly that clothes are a necessity at times. But I don't get excited about having to buy them... like gymnoboi, would sooner put the money into keeping the house warm enough for nudity in the winter.
