How about none of the above. My first time was a planned visit to Haulover because I wanted to experience the c/o feeling. I have been back several times since then and look forward to more.

What Barron said applies to me too, though I voted I was already a nudist...but only a home one at that time.

Our first nude beach was Apollo Beach in FL. Heard rumor of it and wanted to see if it was true and experience it for ourselves. So glad we did....!!!

Same here. I had heard about San Onofre beach and took a while before I was able to make my first excursion.

I heard of Playalinda Beach, on FL's east coast, as a nude beach. I was instantly intrigued http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

After university graduation when I was 21, my best friend moved to Vancouver, B.C., Canada. I went to visit him that summer and we went to Wreck Beach, after he had said he ahd been there several times. I was hooked! It is still a very cool beach...

My first (and so far only) opportunity-
I transformed a textile beach into a nude beach.
No one, except my wife was around.
The weather was cool.
It was mid-day, mid-week, early autumn.
A great opportunity.
It was fun.
My wife elected not to participate.
I enjoyed myself.
I had no sooner dressed again and as we were about to leave, an elderly lady and her daughter arrived. They remarked that it was way too cool for swimming.
My wife laughed heartily.

My first trip was a planned one. It was my first time nude socially. It was an un-official nude beach and during the week so not alot of folks there, but it was still a wonderful experience.

As with others here, my first time on a nude beach was on Haulover in Florida. I had no intention of removing all my clothes, but did anyway after about 5 minutes. The wife even took her swimsuit down to her waist, the first and only time. We had been in Florida and ran into a co-worker who recommended going to Haulover. They went with their kids and ended up returning on another vacation just to spend more time on the nude beach. I would have two answers to the poll question, one is a friend recommendation and the other is I had seen reports. I long to return to Haulover!

My 1 st trip was accidental on R&R for a long week end decided to go camping on the NC outer banks. Camp ground was just off the beach and just over the sand duns, decided to walk N. of the camp ground to get away from the kids on the beach and about mile found a group of teens playing volly ball and others most were nude.
Well spent the rest of the week end north of the camp ground and found how wonderful it was to play with out the wet swim suit.

My first time to be "socially nude"...was as a teenager...in the summer of Woodstock...Dallas had our own version of woodstock a few weeks later..with Hundreds of thousands of music lovers converging near lake Dallas at the motor speedway...for 3 days of Music...and hundreds of us went swimming nude around lake Dallas...and the news helicopters were swarming all around us..it was quite a time for a young new nudist...I will never forget seeing Janice Joplin on that stage...she was awesome !!!

The first time was at Red,White and Blue beach in Santa Cruz,Ca. Asked the wife if she wanted to go to a free beach, that was back in the mid 70s, she was all for it, but the story behind this is she was new to the country, had only been in country about 6 months, and really did not understand the term free beach, she thought everything was free $ money wise, When we arrived to triler to enter, she asked me why we have to pay if its a free beach, I told her wait just a minute and you well see, After parking went to the beach and the expression on her face I shell never forget, But we had such a good time there that, whnever we could get off duty(work) we spent there either a day or weekend camping, that was almost twenty years ago, now we our members of AANR and LDS in Sac.,Ca and this site. Its a great way of life.It all stated by going to a Free Beach

My first time on a nude beach was Cape Cod. I had read a report of the nude beaches along the Cape Cod shore and elected to go there on vacation in the mid 1970's. We packed up and away we went. Having skinny dipped as a teen on the farm, the feeling was one of absolute relaxation when we crested the dunes and saw others nude enjoying the beach. That was what hooked me to continue the life since! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/eusa_dance.gif

I was already a home nudist by the time I went to a nude beach. I was fortunate at the time to live only 15 minutes away from Lighthouse Beach.

We were going up to LA for the weekend anyway and the kids wanted to go to the beach so I found San Onofre online. We were already home nudists at the time.

Last winter/spring I spent the whole time driving down the Cali. coast going to every nude beach I could find, and many hidden beach/coves. The one at Big Sur was my favorite.

My first time was at Blacks Beach in San Diego. We were living in Orange County at the time and I had read about it in the papers. I was down to SD for a conference and thought I'd visit BB. Had shorts to put on instead of my dress clothes, but somehow forgot to take anything but my dress shoes. Made it down the cliff barefoot, but by the time I got to the bottom my feet were terribly sore -- kind of ruined my time because I kept worrying about how I would ever make it back up. Saw a guy heading South on the beach carrying all his stuff. Suspecting he was leaving, I asked him where he was going. Said he always came down a road by the Scripps Institute. I told him my predicamen and asked if I could tag along. He told me, "Sure." After awhile he asked my where I had parked. I told him above the cliff. He said that would be quite a hike from Scripps. I said it would be just along the top of the cliff, wouldn't it. He told me there was no direct route, but that he would give me a ride.

All's well that ends well, I suppose; and thanks buddy, wherever you are!

I was staying at Cypress Cove Nudist Resort for a late August singles weekend. Sunday, the events were over and I wanted to visit a nude beach for the first time. I had heard about Apollo Beach so I drove over to check it out.

Parking was hard to find and I had to make a long walk, but once I got there it was worth all the effort. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a quiet mellow place, no one hassling or ogling that day. Surf was a bit rough and it was windy, but most people would wade in and splash in the water to cool off, then settle back on their towels to relax.

It was a very hot day and I should have brought more water, maybe some soft drinks.

I stopped to chat with a couple of people, but I mostly just relaxed in the sand.

Being nude felt very natural and comfortable there. I have been skinnydipping on remote beaches, but this was my first experience on a public beach where clothing was optional.

I had to respond news story, but that isn't quite accurate. I first went to Apollo beach in FL. I was going to a conference in Orlando, and was very curious about nude beaches, so I looked for some on the internet. I found Apollo, and it seemed ideal (I wanted not so big crowds, and a more isolated beach to try it out).

I had a great time, but as some others mentioned, I hadn't thought of bringing water, food, etc., so I wasn't able to stay too long. I liked it so much, that whenever I can get to FL. for a conference I usually stop by the beach. I also really liked the fact that it is an "official" nude beach, so you can relax and enjoy the beach fully.

If you want to go, be sure to get there early. I am an early riser, so I try to get there just as the sun is rising. It is very beutiful. In the summer its also nice to be there early, as it isn't quite as hot in the early morning.

I presume that the subject of this poll includes nude and clothing-optional resorts and parks.

I was already an at-home nudist before checking out some nice places where one could relax in a friendly clothes-free enviroment.

However, I have not been to a nude beach...yet.

My first time to a nude beach was also my first time nude in public.

I had back maybe 9 years ago, I had found a trip report on Mazo beach (near Madison Wisconsin) and had plans to check it out.

That summer I happened to have signed up for a camping trip in Wisconsin. So, one afternoon, I drove over to Mazo beach.

I've been hooked ever since.

Our first time to a nude beach was also our first time nude in public. We were traveling in Europe and went to the beach. Many of the folks-especially the men- were nude. Many of the women were topless or completely nude also. There were also perhaps an equal number of people in bathing suits but none of them were the long board trunks I and my sons had on. It would appear that speedos or thongs were the "norm" for the folks who remained clothed.

My kids and I soon lost our trunks and spent a fantastic day together. It took a bit longer for my wife to join in. My daughter removed her top but, like many of the other females on the beach, left the botttoms on. The rest is history for our family-now try and keep clothes on us!

a friend of mine convinced me to try it.

he was a member of the mountain air nudist ranch here in colorado, and at a bar, while we were drunk, he talked me into accompanying him the following day as a guest. the following morning i was SOOOOO hungover i could hardly walk, and i was hoping that he'd forgotten about our plans, but right on time he showed up and dragged me off.

i was very shy at first, but then i noticed entire families (parents & kids) swimming naked together and running around laughing. the pure innocence of it all reminded me of the garden of eden.

i've considered myself to be a naturist from that day on

The first time for me was in the south of France (in the Camargue) about 25 years ago. I had stripped off on one of those wonderful long white deserted beaches and the penny didn't drop until later when I saw other people were doing the same. A great feeling being able to go completely nude without having to look round all the time to see if you are being observed by anyone - quite the opposite of being on a beach in England. Looking back, I can't remember when I last wore a bathing costume on a French beach. An English friend wheo was with me in France a few years ago was more than happy to join me on a nudist beach (on the Atlantic coast), although his less than slim girlfriend was determined to stay covered up.

Leslie,

I am of the opinion that obese people generally look better without clothes than in them.

Some have called this the "sausage effect", the unsightly way that fat gets sqeezed into odd lumps when one is wearing clothes.

Without clothes, the nude body takes a more pleasing symmetrical shape, even when one is carrying a few extra pounds.

A bathing suit doesn't really hide much. It's just a psychological comfort to that woman, thinking that no one can really see her body underneath that form-fitting attire.

In the comic strip, Peanuts, the character Linus carries around a "security blanket". He feels lost without it, though it does him no practical good. Most of humanity has this problem with clothing.

About twenty years ago I read an article in the local newspaper about Lighthouse Beach. I was a closet nudist and would sunbath nude in the fenced in backyard when no one else was around. This beach sounded like a way to bring my nudism to the next level. It was great. My wife won't go because it is too close to home and there are too many clothed people walking the beach, but she does enjoy nude resorts when on vacation. We are going to Eden Bay in two weeks and we can't wait to get there.

while living in Miami after college, read about Haulover Beach's one year anniversary of legal status in the local paper. Decided to check it out one weekend, sat there for a while, didn't get naked (mix of erection fear and self conciousness) went back a week later and took the plunge and was hooked.

On my way by myself to Lyon in France to see a friend, I wanted to rest on a beach for a while, and the one I stumbled on happened to have more nude bodies than clothed ones. I eventually joined in (when I realised I was the odd one out) and even managed to walk to the sea in the nude on my first day. I loved it and haven't looked back since. This beach was on the west coast of France near Royan, and on the same trip I made it to the "fjord" beach ("Les Calanques")at Cassis on the Med. coast near Marseilles. My car was stolen from the car park there, but that is another story! Prior to this I only had a vague awareness of naturism, and no real interest in it.
