I am wondering why you post here regularly if you are dead set against nudity? I was under the impression that Europeans were alot more comfortable and mature about the human body than are Americans.
I am not calling you immature, but too many Americans are.
One of my hobbies has to do with Horror,( I build Haunted Houses for Halloween) and I read magazines about certain movies.
Fangoria is a U.S. pubication that seems to focus on gore.
Dark Side is a U.K. publication that doesn't show much gore but does leave in the nudity.
I have yet to set foot in England, but I was told that when movies are put on T.V. over there, that they edited for violence but not toppless sceens. Where here in America, it's o.k. to see violence, but not the body unclothed.
(Who is the backwards one here?)
Is this true, or is my chain being yanked? /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

As one of stu's biggest fans, let me explain as best as I can, why he is here.
He is a textile with a severe anxiety when it comes to seeing nudity, especially that of the opposite sex. To his credit, when he first came here, he had never seen a naked person before and took showers with shorts on. Since then, he has, as part of his job at a fitness centre, seen men naked both in the shower and the steam room and lived through the experience unscathed. He has also finally taken a naked shower! Horray for stu! He is making progress.
From the beginning, stu has said that he agreed with the fact that our nude facilities are woefully inadequate and that we need more places to be naked. That is where the similarities end. We kind of came upon a debatable agreement about public parks, but he is still vehemently opposed to open aire, unrestricted public nudity.
He is here to argue against public nudity whenever he feels the need to. And personally, it wasn't until stu came here that I found this place to be that interesting. For me, stu provided a reason to be here. He has made me really think about my position and made me defend it. He has made me a better nudist because of it. I am more vehement about nudism than I was before I cyberly knew him. We should all know someone like stu who can occasionally make us rethink our beliefs and make us give reasons why we think that way. An atrophied belief system can be argued away.

Bob,
I agree with you for the most part...if it weren't for all the Stu's out there speaking up for those to shy, we wouldn't have anyone to keep us nudists on our toes...and some conflicts can be good for us...they allow us to think as independants in a world so full of people trying speak up for folks who are a minority /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
So in my opinion, Stu and all the other wantabee Stu's should stay too...even if as a nudist I may not always agree with what they have to say...but then again it is because of their thoughts that help make me believe are just as valid /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

This topic is not to bash Stu, but a place to debate him and ask him questions. I just noticed debates going on in certain threads that don't have much to do with the topic.
Like I said at the top of this thread, I've never been to the U.K. and this might be a good place to ask Stu questions if his attention is drawn here. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Rik

Actually, maybe he doesn't but what about all the people out there who if it weren't for people like him, would be less likely to debate some of the issues that have arised because of his decision to post here...
Like I stated earlier...sometimes in order to make more intelligent decisions we need to look at both sides of the coin /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I don't agree with everything that Stu says but I do think he makes a valuable contribution to this forum. Not only does he force many of us to think more deeply about our positions in order to explain them, he also is willing to listen to others and often provides intelligent counter-arguments.

Three months pass and not a Stu in sight...
(I wrote this to bring the message back to the top and get Stu's attention).
One thing I am curious to know is where the initial fear and trauma stems from?
I always seem to remember that it was the "right" thing for children to bath naked with their parents, play naked in the sunshine, shower naked in communal showers. These were all common day things for me.
I cannot believe that anyone would shower with shorts on and worse still in the privacy of their own shower? How did they ever get clean? And what was the thing that made that person so scared?

"One thing I am curious to know is where the initial fear and trauma stems from?"
Turk, stu's reticence of nudity started early with unusual anatomy. He was poked, prodded, stared at, and examined when he was younger. He's undergone many medicinal therapies to correct his situation. Unfortunately, I am not sure he also underwent any psychological counseling as well.
Somewhere along the way, he developed a phobia (I am calling it a phobia even if stu himself doesn't) with seeing nudity. Many years ago, he was hanging out with friends at the beach (unbeknownst to him, a nude beach) and suddenly a topless lady walked by. He went white with anxiety and was so affected that he had to be carried to the car. Since that day, he has avoied seeing naked bodies.
It has eased up since he has been on this board. He used to shower with shorts on, but now can shower naked. He has also gotten more used to seeing men naked such as at the fitness center where he is a board member.
I have put in my unexpert opinions about where his phobia came from, but I can't know everything. And he is unwilling to get help for this because as he puts it, he is fine the way he is now. Since he does not encounter naked females in his line of work, there is no reason to him to change.

Thank you, Bob, for your explanations about Stu (the previous and the second post under this topic).
I didn't know this story when I recently wrote some sentences about Stu that can be read as accusation for lying, although my meaning was milder: that I couldn't believe his every word, when something he said only appeared to be funny and (to me) very unlikely to be true. Let's stop suspection about the reality of his person. If you believe in it, I do it too.
I wish Stu comes back in this forum because he brings life to it. And I welcome other non-naturists here as well.
Maybe reading and writing in this forum is some kind of therapy to Stu. What we could finally help him to learn is that the whole non-naturist world is not so hostile to nudity as he thinks it to be.
My suggestion to British naturists and Stu: Plan a poll about opinions and experiences on nudity in your country, with honest questions of course, and let an independent research institute carry it out so that Stu can accept the results. Stu, Rik and other Britons, can you agree this is a good idea?
