I'm just curious about this men's habit I see whenever I go to the restroom. I always see that men wash their hands after urinating even they already washed their hands before, upon entering the restroom. I'm not a psychologist but I think this behavior has something to do with their views about their body esp. their private part.

Do you wash your hands after urinating?
I bet majority of the answer will be no. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Why do we have to have topics like this?

I just have a theory that if a guy washed his hands after urinating -- it could mean that he thinks his private part is dirty when it's not.

I also assume that naturists view is different but I could be wrong.

It could also mean he was polite, well brought up, had established that as a habit etc.

I know it is clean, I know I did'nt Pee on my hands, but I work in the food industry first of all, and you'll be glad to know I wash, before, Because I'm a maintenance supervisor, with often dirty hands, and I wash after, because its proper and a decent thing to do and shows good hygene, and leaves no one who might notice, thinking any more less of me.

Its amazing at how many can't even hit the urinal, much less at least wash themselves afterwards. Ha! You know the ole saying, Stand close , its probaly shorter than you think! but of course, there's the old favorite from the ladies, If you sprinkle, when you tinkle, be a sweetie and wipe the seetie. nudeinbama

You should have made more options such as Always, Often, Sometimes, Rarely, Never. With that, I would go for Sometimes.

Another question to ask is whether the presence of another guy in the bathroom would affect your decsision.

Most of the time, I don't even need to touch it. I will pull it out anduse my fly and button flaps to hold it.

And washing after urinating may have more to do with the filth of the urine rather than the viewing of the penis as private parts.

Urine is usually always sterile fluid.

We are taught that it is good maners to wash after urinating.

One woman told me of a conversation she heard in the woman's restroom.

One woman asked the other woman why she washed only one hand.
The woman replied that it is because she only used one hand to wipe.

Here's a thought. Perhaps it is best for men to wash their hands after urinating. They are touching a part of the body which (in most cases) in kept in a dark warm environment. Unlike other parts of the body, this area tends to be covered the most keeping it moist with sweat in the heat of the summer and during activity. This is especially true for uncircumsized men. Urine may be sterile, but is smegma??

Other aspects to consider include the fact that washing one's hands a few times a day is good hygiene. We touch so many surfaces which others touch, and hand washing reduces the spread of germs. There is also the possibility of splashback when using urinals. It may not be unhealthy to have urine on your hands, but it is gross http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.

BTW: I know this thread is for Men only, but I think women should be allowed to comment if they choose.

I'm surprised with the answers. The main reason why I brought this topic is because I have read an article here in clothesfree that our body is created by God and not dirty.

Me myself wash my hands only if it's dirty. And yes, I should include the options Always, Often, Sometimes, Rarely, Never. Sometimes is actually my answer.

Yes, I think women should also be allowed to comment in this thread.

I'll edit it now.

Thanks anyways for the informative replies.

I also work in the foor industry [a dairy plant]so I always wash my hands. We are required to wash our hands after we eat also, because they say your mouth is the dirtiest part of your body.

I am also a maintenance supervisor. What type of food plant do you work at?

ROFLMAO!!

Ummmm...I think we're talkin' 'bout two different definitions of "dirty" here...

1. dirty as in "shameful" or "pornographic" (as in the quote above)

2. dirty as in "wash your hands cuz you don't know were that thing's been" (as to why you MOST DEFINITELY SHOULD wash your hands after doing your thing at the urinal...)

BTW, did I say "ROFLMAO!!"?

Ever Heard this one?

A Marine and a Sailor were using the rest room.
The sailor noticed the Marine didn't wash his hands.
So smugly, he said, "In the Navy they teach us to wash our hands after we pee."
The Marine Laughed and said, " In the Marines they teach us not to piss on ourselves."

But as for the poll...
Now and then I forget but I almost always wash after.
It has nothing to do with thinking my penis is Dirty in any way.

It's somethng Most people are taught from the time they start going poddy by themselves.

I think it's odd that most people think of sex when the word penis is brought up, When it's used for urinating about 100 times more often.

For me, it has absolutely nothing to do with the perceived cleanliness, or lack thereof, of my own body. It has everything to do with the uncleanliness of the surfaces around the facilities. When you use them, you're probably touching at least flush handles. Just as you're more likely to get an infection in a hospital than in most other places, bathrooms can be amongst the most germ-laden places around, even though they're associated with cleansing and even though they may be cleaned often.

I think you misunderstand the meaning of the word "clean". I would hazard to guess that it means spiritually clean, not clean from a hygenic point of view. By using your reasoning then we shouldn't have to wash our hands after sneezing, coughing or having a bowel movement (the PC phrase).

Cheers,

Dave

I should have also added that people use the bible the way they use statistics. That is to support whatever point of view they want. But then that's my bias.

Put your hand under a 1000x microscope and you will realise that your hands are *always* "dirty", i.e., covered with lots of germs you don't want to know about. One's groin area is particularly exposed to germs and hence washing your hands makes a lot of sense, regardless whether one is nudist or not and things all is clean or not.

BTW, I will ask moderators to move this topic to open conversation because it has very little to do with naturism/nudism. Just common sense?

It has nothing whatsoever to do with naturism/nudism, so yeah, common sense and a good move. Thanks.

I go to extra lengths... such as using a towel to flush, open and close doors, etc. I also prefer to button-up and fasten my belt-buckle AFTER I've washed my hands, so I don't carry junk around with me.

I also like to use the towel to turn the faucet on and off. I get really peeved when there are no towels, and even more so if the door has to be pulled open from inside the restroom.

Maybe it's just me!?!?!?!

I always wash my hands when after I'm done in the washroom, though judging from everyone that posted before me that's probably nothing special.

There are alot of things created by "God" that are dirty and/or I would not want to touch..

Washing your hands after urinating has nothing to do with body shame/image. It is common courtesy and good hygiene just like brushing your teeth, showering, and wiping your a$$

I wash my hands before AND after I pee.(I'm a mechanic). It's the civilized thing to do. Honestly, would any of you shake the hand of a man you know didn't wash after peeing? Be honest now.

Dear Free-spirit,

Great question and an interesting topic for a poll.

Unless the washing facilities are truly disgusting, I always wash my hands after urinating.

In addition to maintaining personal hygiene, I think that it is considerate to those with whom we're in contact with.

Whether we are cooking dinner for guests or shaking hands with someone, I doubt that others want to make contact with our personal bacteria.

Some have obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) while others have such a casual attitude towards germs that they don't care.

Regardless of what we may think, they are entitled to consideration and that is one reason that I wash after using the bathroom.

Reminds me of the old joke. There's a Red Sox and Yankees game going on at Fenway Park. The Yankee fan goes to one urinal, the Red Sox fan to another.

They both finish their business at the same time. They zip up.

The Yankee fan goes to the sink to wash his hands, while the Sox fan heads for the door.

"WAOW", yells the Yankee fan. "In New York, we wash our hands after we urinate."

The Red Sox fan retorts "oh, well, here in Boston, we don't pee on our hands!"

If almost everybody who answered this qquestion washes, then why is it that I see lots of people zipping up and rushing out without washing? I guess it is only the naturists that wash afterwards...

It just occured to me that a truly polite male naturist would probably wash his penis too. But you never see that, do you?

I think you've demonstrated something pollsters know. People don't always answer polls honestly but sometimes give the 'correct' answer or what the pollster wants to hear.

In a public restroom I look to see if there are paper towels. I hate the hot air blowers. The hot air blowers promote unsanitary conditions as people refuse to use them and go out without washing.

I always wash my hands after using the restroom. As a hospital worker for the past 20+ years we are often reminded that it's the single most important thing you can do to prevent spreading germs. At this point, it's a habit that makes good sense.

There's another issue, and that's how thoroughly you wash your hands. I must admit that I usually wash very superficially after peeing.

One rule of thumb (pun intended) is to wash for as long as it takes to sing the song "Twinkle, twinkle little star" (but if you did this out loud others might wonder).

When at home, and especially when nude, I usually sit down to pee. Then I don't have to wash my hands.

I started doing this because I read somewhere that peeing sitting down is good for prostate health.

I don't think a person feels their crotch is dirty, so they wash their hands after they pee. I think and feel that if you use the bathroom, you should wash your hands with soap. I think there is a large majority of people who don't wash their hands, and thats gross. I always see people go straight from the urinals to straight out the door. I'm thinking..."They must be in a rush". I see the same people shaking other peoples hands right outside the bathroom.
For my answer, I chose "ALWAYS".

How bored am I? So bored that I'm going to take on this one with a Marine joke.

Two guys are standing at a urinal doing what guys at urinals do. As they finish up and start to leave one guy says to the other you're a Marine aren't you? I'm in the (Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force--you choose).

The Marine replies, "great" and heads for the door, while the other guy draws himself up to his full height and sneers down his nose, "you Marines are such filthy animals, in the Navy we're taught to wash our hands after we urinate".

The Marine grants the soldier a wolfish grin on his way out, and says, "Greeeeat!, in the Marines we're taught not to pee on ourselves".

Pretty much sums it up for me.

The dirtiest things people routinely touch are door knobs. Urine is sterile and sanitary. If you can't wash your hands immediately after using a door knob, it would probably be best if you urinated on them.

I was always taught to wash after urinating or ANY TIME we use the mens room. However this is not always possible in my situation. I run heavy equipmant at a metal recycling plant. I can't stop very often to use he head, I must waite until my supervisor can come to take over the equipment that I am runing on that day. Many times I must just get off and satnd next to my loader and piss. There is no running water except the nasty dirty contaminated water on the ground.

When I first strated my my career as a civil servant, one of my job duties for the NAVHOSP/BRCL was to record the results of the Urine Analasis (U/A) test. In talking to the lab technians, I found out 1) if any bacteria is present, that is a flag for an in-depth follow-up exam and 2)it is normally harmless to drink!
