Posing as Spencer Tunic is probably a good way to meet naked women.

What?

oh

nevermind.

Yes, I would and believe my wife would as well. It would be a piece of art I would purchase and add to our wall of nudist art, pictures of nudist places we've been to, nudist cartoons and nudist ads. The nice thing about that particular piece of art would be that we were in it. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif

I often wonder how many of those that participate in his nude shoots are actually nudists. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/cool4.gif

I also voted yes but i am not too good at getting up early in the morning!

A female friend of mine who i have tried to encourage to visit a club/beach with me totally refuses the whole idea of nudism even though she will go topless on the beach/garden.
However the idea of posing for Spencer Tunick is her dream, she is begging me to accompany her if Spencer does a shoot in the south east of the UK, this i do not understand?????

Looking at the white skin of many of the people who attend these shoots i would say many bodies have not seen the sun for a long time or if ever.
What also surprises me now that wherever Spencer travels he is applauded and welcomed by the host country and its people but in his own country he runs the risk of persecution and jail, i hope the authorities in the US will see how their past actions in dealing with Spencer were archaic and well over the top.

Does Spencer still do mass shoots of the public in the US? I think 4000 naked people lining Parliament Hill would be a good setting!! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/beam.gif

I would love to be part of a photo shoot and most likely I would grab a hotel room close to
the shoot so I wouldn't have to get up so early and drive. A small price to pay for the arts.

No, I would not pose, as it is too darned early in the morning, (I am definitely not an early morning person) plus the cold weather without warm clothes and the cold pavement would make it most unpleasant.

At the risk of starting an argument I probably won't win, what is the big deal about posing for Tunick?

Lying naked on the grotty ground, cramed amongst thousands of other sweaty, dirty bodies, posing for a picture I more than likely won't be able to recognise myself in. Ummm, no thanks.

Just my opinion of course.

BTW Mark, You cracked me up with that too. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

I've done it before. No big deal, would do it again.

Other observations. I would say over half of the people who pose for him are naturists/nudists.

The male/female ratio is much more equal than you see at most official nudist events. But then again I never saw any horndogs trying to find dates at Spencer Turnick shoots.

Naked in the UK
04-14-2006, 01:37 PM
I would be interested in taking part in one of Spencer's mass nudity photo shoots. There was one here in Newcastle, England last year. But I didn't take part as I worried about the risk of being shown on TV(there was a one hour special on the event). Whilst I'd be happy to stand there naked with hundreds of others strangers, I'd not be happy if I ended up being shown nude on TV and being seen by family, friends or work colleages. So I decided against taking part.

I would do one if there was a photo shoot somewhere on mainland Europe. Where chances are there won't be a special TV show on the event shown here in the UK.

The photo shoot in Venezulua this year. I will have to pass on that. Too far to get from the UK.

While his art work does help to bring nudity into the mainstream, I am not a fan of his work from an artistic perspective. I have posed for art before but only for education or as part of a project I believed in and since Tunick's work is neither, no, I don't believe I would pose for him. Sorry Spence!

Nor could I, although I'd have gone if I could.

BBC 3 did a live(?) programme of it that I video taped and it looked amazing.

Can I change the tack of the thread slightly?

Tunick gets all manner of people to pose who would not normally think of doing such a thing, so every time I look at any of his photos I think that there's an enormous number of potential nudists there.

While there may be a smattering of nudists involved, the number at the Newcastle event (or any others for that matter) exceeded the number of "signed up" club or swim night naturists in the whole region.

Many will never have publicly disrobed amongst strangers of both sexes before. Yet they do so without embarrassment.

I really think that many people are, deep down, wannabe naturists and it's up to us to encourage them. If I'd owned a naturist club in the NE of England I'd have been printing off leaflets and handing them out with the little capes or clothes bags I believe Tunick provides, in the hope of increased membership.

While Tunick provides a moment in time when ordinary people go nude in the name of art, that huge body (!) of people disperses afterwards. Any of us in naturism need to tap that potential.

One more thing about Tunick's pictures.

While those of us into naturism fret about the shaved, trimmed or natural look, if you look at any of his pix it's quite clear that ordinary people don't vex about such things. Almost all of them men and women in his photos are "natural".

Depends on where the photo was taken.

The 'smoothie' fashion is not related to nudism, it is just as common among textiles.

Artist to fill Mexico City's Zocalo with nudes
Sun Apr 29, 2007 4:23PM EDT
MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - U.S. artist Spencer Tunick will fill Mexico City's Zocalo square -- the center of the ancient Aztec empire and the heart of modern Mexico -- with thousands of naked Mexicans next week for his latest mass nude photo shoot.

Tunick, who was refused permission to stage his nude photo at Mexico's famed Teotihuacan pyramids outside the capital, has been granted permission to use the Zocalo for his shoot next Sunday, local media reported on Sunday...

I have a couple of his DVDs about his quest to get all those pictures and I am just amazed the turn outs for those photo sessions. My cousin and I have just done the Amsterdam shoot (she lives there) and, actually, Rick, you're not too far off the mark with some of your points.

The crowd didn't bother me. Posing was, however, exceptionally boring and now that it's over I can't even find myself in any of the photos. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif

So I got up in the middle of the night to be ordered around, stood in a car park and a picture of my bum might be there.

There are altogether better ways to be nude. Beaches, pools, shops at Cap D'Agde etc.

On the upside, thousands of people went publically nude for the first time and it shows the massive potential there is for naturism, if only we can tap it properly

RichNH
06-10-2007, 05:31 AM
IMHO - I would think that these kinds of events roto-till the ground so to speak for that "massive potential". It seems to me that the problem with enjoying naturism consists of one thing, the public's lack of acceptance. That is one massive wall to breach. And its there for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the idea that appearing nude where others can see you is taboo. These kinds of events do a service in that area by addressing this part of the wall. After all, who can complain about being shocked upon observing a neighbor sunning nude in their own back yard when thousands get nude downtown?

Its a generational problem, it'll take many many years if not decades or centuries to address and these kinds of events do their part in that. People who attend an event like this can think of themselves as pioneers. The trick is to not go so far and fast that there is a kickback.

Sure, I would pose. I signed up a while back, but he hasn't done anything within a reasonable distance.

I think his work is a decent way to broach the Nudism idea with non-nudists. I don't recall ever hearing anything bad about his shoots or his work, and the mere fact that thousands upon thousands of people pose can help make some folks a little more comfortable with the nude body.

Yes, and I have signed up to do so on his website. I think it would be a really neat experience being with that many nudists in one setting. Preferably in a warm location, though!

Absolutely! I'm on his mailing list, so I know when he's in the area.

I did one of his shoots in NYC back in 1998.

It was at the corner of 125th and Henry Hudson Prkwy. There was only about 80 of us or so but I remember that at one point there were 2 girls who were laying in the street as directed but they were out of the shot, so Spence told them to get up and run to the back of the group. When we finished at that location I decided to have a little fun and so as everyone else was putting their clothes back on I ran along the street for a few seconds waving at and chasing one of the cars that was passing by the location just as we finished up.

He's doing a shoot at a soccer stadium in Vienna, Austria in early May.
Too far for most of us on this forum, I guess.

I would love to participate, if the weather is right. No Swiss glaciers or Canadian icebergs for me, thank you. Always been a coward. :sneaky:

I think it would be great fun to participate in a Spencer Tunick photo shoot.

If he came here to New Orleans, I would be first in line. I do like his work.

I'd love to, but prefer to do so in a close, warm location.

It probably would not feel any different than walking down Orient Beach!

Seriously I'd love to, but would not want to travel very far to do it. It would be so cool to show someone the picture and challenge them to find me...
