When not camping in foothills west of Caroline Alberta, which is only 1 or 2 weekends every year anyway,I have a secluded spot on my property for nude tanning. Nothing beats having an acreage set up for this purpose. Saves fuel too! There are no clothing optional beaches close to where I live. Any time Im in Vancouver BC I try to make it to wreck beach.

My back yard is all of 27' x 40' so that's not really an option for me. Thankfully I'm only a 45 minute drive away from 2 great beaches.

Now if the gas price would only co-operate a little.

I agree. I've known people who literally turned their backyard into a mini-resort, with pool, hot tub and social gatherings with friends. At my old house, I set up a small area against the house with kiddie pool where my daughter could splash around nude and where my wife and I could lay and relax nude. It's not as openly social as a resort; but at least you don't have to drive and pay to be nude.

our property is all open. even if we had a privacy fence the way the homes go uphill someone could still see you. i do have a friend that has secluded property. when he was looking he had being nude in mind. we have the privelege of visiting often for nude picnics. also discovered a nudist lodge only an hour away.

In my neighborhood, nearly all the houses are multi- storied with basements. Thus the first floor is a good 3 to 4 feet off the ground. thus a privacy fence would have to be at least 20 tall...I don't think so!

Plus, neally all have either gramble or gable roofs. So a roof-top area is also out.

I can go out nude on my upper deck any time that I want to. You would have to be in a plane or hot air balloon to see anything.

I have 20 acres that are partly wooded and partly open, and my neighbors north have similar land. To the south is 600 acres of partly wooded pasture. I walk naked almost a mile around the perimiter almost every day. Only out near the road on each end do I have to be careful of traffic passing by. Its like living in a nudist camping area, except the company is sparse.

While I'm not as fortunate as some I do have a fairly secluded backyard. I'm about half way through putting a privacy fence around it now. I hope to have it finished by next week then I will be free to roam around out on the deck and backyard with no worries. I have used it nude already but this way I will know I am 100% with in my rights as no one will be able to see me unless they come onto my property and look through a knot hole.

We bought a house 2 years ago, and what we looked for was a secluded back yard. And yup, we found it. We have a nice size property for Belgian standard, with a complete private backyard. The few days we have beautiful weather in Belgium, we enjoy it from morning till evening. Hard to leave the house then.

I told the realtor that we wanted a place where I could go naked in the back yard. Really took a while to find one that my wife liked the house on it as well. We actually had to make extensive redecorating and fixing to this place, even though it isn't very old (1988ish). The neighbor even put in her own driveway. It used to fork off ours. Next step may be to put in a remote gate near the top of the hump in our long (but straight) driveway to shield me working in front of the house. Behind is about 8 out of the 8.5 acres, through woods and down to the creek 100' below.

WE have 1/2 acre of land about 5 miles from the center of town, which is considered way out in the country by anyone who lives down town. I have lots of plants all around thr front of the house and a 10x20 feneces area in the back yard for laying out naked and tanning. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

Our current home has a very, very private backyard. We have enjoyed our ability to be nude all the time in it. 6' high block walls, trees and foliage are mature adding much more privacy and neighbors that know of our lifestyle and respect it.

Our new home is going to be a challenge to provide us with this much privacy and free nude roaming. I'm giving it my best shot but we may be secluded to certain areas of our new backyard and not have full nude use of it because of the two story being built next door.

HairyHomer -- what stunning and lovely grounds you have cultivated and maintained. I know you get a lot of enjoyment from your privacy fence and the beauty around you.

So, FireProf, why are you moving when you've got so much that you like about your present home, especially the privacy (and the neighbours), and there's so much less in the new place?

Maybe you'll be lucky and find the folks that inhabit the two-story house also live clothes-optional -- are at least are tolerant.

We are moving to get closer to our girls and grandkids. They are over an hour away and we spend quite a bit of time together.

Our grandchildren are involved in many activities that we partake in and it's getting more and more difficult to drive the over two hour round trip. Traffic has become crazy, if you can believe that of Southern California, and it's only going to get worse.

We've found a larger home, single story and it will provide us with "areas" of privacy to be nude outside, just not full reign of the backyard naked. I'll have two windows to deal with, one is the neighbors bath tub window. This time I will undoubtedly drop the nudist bomb on them so they know right up front.

Another reason we picked this house, in particular, was that we only have to contend with one neighbor. I only have to put in one side of block wall (block walls included with this exception) and with some mature trees we should be able to roam most of the backyard nude all the time but we won't know that for sure until I begin privatizing.

Hey, all good, valid reasons for finding a different place.

Wouldn't it be nice if you drop the "nudist bomb" and your new neighbours said "no problem" and dropped drawers!

Hope it works out for you.

Fireprof - Good luck to you in your new home.
We were very lucky with our place - fence behind was rotting out and neighbour and I replaced with a 6 foot one that gave us privacy. - All one-storey homes here so our yard is completely protected. Also our neighbours behind found out that we are naturists so even though there is a 6 foot gate between us they always call before the come into our back yard. They dont approve of nakedness but they are letting us do our thing - by the way other than their prudishness they are great neighbours.

For years we have enjoyed the benefit of a row of dense cedar trees down each side of the property which provides privacy above the 6 foot solid board fence. Unfortunately the trees on one side belong to a neighbor and they have been trimming the lower branches and are now talking about removing the trees. We are beginning to feel somewhat "exposed".
Will it keep me from roaming our back yard nude? Not likely.

A super great privacy hedge can be made from Arbovitae plants. These are evergreens and grow quickly. They also can be trimmed to have a height limit and the trees will grow to fill in even the space between them at the top over time. Great plants, easy to grow and maintain.

My house in RI is not for my life style. No fences and no bushes.

I do a lot of vacationing in Maine which is on a 2 acre lot on the water and is very wooded. During the week, there are not a lot of people there, so I am able to go nude a lot.

Rabid, I've had rotten luck with arborvitae here west of Charlottesville. I put in some Leyland but heard that they can get a virus. So, I put some arborvitae in the gaps. These were chomped on by the hooved rats; whereas, they've hardly touched the Leyland. Fenced in the arborvitae. Last summer some started turning brown on some of their shoots (they're multi-branched, all upright). Cut out the dead. They look like hell. Fortunately, the Leyland are quickly filling the gaps.

Now that I think about it, I still am more than a 'bit' jelous of my ex-father-in-law. He retired to Michigan's U P just out from Escanoba. His nearest nieghbor was a good half-mile away and the only thing between his house and Green Bay (the body of water) was nearly a mile of forest. While the house was fairly close to the highway, the trees and brush was such that from the road you would never have known there was a two acre yard in back.

He had a permit from the MI DNR for fifteen cords of wood (blow down trees) for his personal use. So his heating bills were next to nothing.

BTW, ex and I did a fair amount of semi-nude sunbathing in the back.

Ralph, don't know what to tell you. I used the Niagra version (there are many) and had great luck if they were planted correctly. That means no air in the root ball and well settled dirt around the roots on planting.

Never had deer to eat them, but I did have a problem with Emporor Penguins nesting in the branches.

No real chance of going naked on my property during the day without being seen, it's largely overlooked though it's a quiet area and I do take chances in certain places. Early summer mornings are the best, it's very quiet then and I wander the whole garden in the nude quite happily.

My backyard is too open to be nude during the day. A couple of the neighbors have put up sections of privacy fence and there's enough foliage along the rest of the fence to make it reasonably private late at night. Luckily, my immediate neighbors don't turn on their back porch lights.

Ralph,

In our area (Maryland), they will happily munch on the Leyland Cypress. While certainly not a first choice, they will take what they can get mid-winter. Some people in the area have trimmed off the lower 5 or 6 feet of branching.

I think we have new neighbor moving in, in the back. This past weekend, they were working in the backyard and I was, or course, nude in mine. Then all of a sudden, I spotted someone on the top of their roof, so I'm sure they got an eyefull. We'll see what transpires from here on out. I plan on staying nude until they say something, but I was here first. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/smoking.gif
