LOL,
I am pretty sure this topic has been beat to death...so I have my bat and I am going to give one more go at it...

How many people on here go to, or have been to or plan on going to Haulover in the Future???

I live close enough to go, but I would really rather enjoy the company of others...It's just more fun when you have cool people to chill with and play volleyball with and stuff...Make it a more relaxed experience...

Alright, THAT IS ALL!!!

I like to go about once a month during the winter when I am in FL. After seeing the pics on TV, I wonder what the beach looks like since Rita. Anybody been there since the hurricane?

I'm definately due for another visit. Was talking with some friends yesterday about taking a trip down soon.

I was there July 7 and 8. First time visits. I loved it. First legal nude beach I'd ever been on. Loved the short walk (so rare) the security, the fact there are lifeguards (Feeder bands from Hurricane Denis arrived later in the evening, so the surf was dangerously rough during the day) and concessions.
Can not wait to go back.

Are there any decent hotels within walking distance to Haulover? Stayed at a very pricey resort in Lauderdale, but was never there to take advantage of it...spent most of my time at Haulover...so it was not worth the money nor the drive.

Cheers All!

There are a number of hotels just past the north end of the designated nude section. Easily within walking distance. I'd call ahead though, summertime and holidays always fill up ahead of time. I think one was called "Oceanview", but I can't really remember the names of the rest....when in doubt, Google!

This Best Western hotel is literally minutes from Haulover, you can walk there or take the bus to the beach (less than 10 minutes).

the Ocean Palms is walking distance to the beach plus many nudists stay there so nude by the pool is ok after dark. It is not the fanciest place so don't expect Marriot or Hilton like accomadations. I was just there at the end of June. Unfortunately, most of the affordable places there are being replaced with high rise condos.

We go quite often in the winter and spring but stay away during the summer and fall because of the frequent rain and possibility of hurricanes. We start going again during the holidays for two weeks, again in early February and for two days before and after the nude cruise. We also plan on going for a week in early May. Haulover is the greatest and I wonder how its doing during the storms this hurricane season.

Fred,

Winter is the dry season in south Florida, but a front may bring rain and cool weather for a day or so. Miami humidity is unbearable in August and delightful in winter.

Temperatures tend to be mild enough throughout the winter for beach nudity, but the ocean can be too brisk for all but the hardiest souls.

Miami has had frost on rare occasions, winter nights can be chilly.

But I have vivid memories of a warm day at the beach December 26, and it had snowed in Atlanta the day before.

So be prepared for unpredictable weather.

I used to have relatives in the Miami area and am basing my comments on my experience there as well as that of my relatives.

I've been to Haulover Beach around New Years, the last 4 years in a row. Of the 20 or so days I have spent on the beach, I can only think of 3 or 4 that were not great. Mostly the wind can be a problem, but it rarely rains long enough to ruin an entire day that time of year, from what I have seen anyway.

The Ocean Palms Motel is less than a 5 minute walk from Haulover Parks nude beach. All of the other motels in that area close to the park have been demolished. But there are some nice motels farther away ( a mile or two ) if you want to drive to the park every day.
I prefer to stay at Ocean Palms because I'm rarely in the room anyway. The rooms have a small fridge and you can use a hot plate or microwave for cooking. I bring my own hot plate just in case. I like making my own breakfast and evening snacks.

Over all it's a great place to go for a nice "low budget" vacation.

Steve

I haven never been there, but heard it's a great place and it's definately on my to-do list. I'll have to remember the Ocean Palms motel. That would be the perfect place to stay for a vacation at the beach.

Just wondering does the Ocean Palm allow you to go from your room to the beach nude? I know that they are cool with nudity at the pool at night so that's why i'm wondering.

Since (I believe) you have to go through "textile territory" to get to Haulover Beach from the Ocean Palm, the answer is no.

Yes, you really do have to go thru textile territory to get to the nude section of Haulover Beach. Also, sitting out on Ocean Palm's back patio in the nude, and lounging on the beach behind Ocean Palm in the nude is against rules.

The link that says Ocean Palm Motel is next door to Day's Inn is no longer applicable, as that Day's Inn is no longer in existance (but there is another Day's Inn "down Collins Avenue).

I have also stayed at the Newport Beachside Hotel which is a 15 minute walk to the nude section of Haulover Beach. You can see from their website, listed below, that it is quite an attractive hotel.

Shirley's web page still states that Days Inn is next door to Ocean Palm Motel, but this is no longer the case, as that building has been converted to residential condos. However, there is still a Days Inn farther down Collins Avenue, but not close by.

Ocean Palm Motel is the first motel in the USA to be built with a second floor. Before that, all motels were only single story. This makes Ocean Palm a historic motel. It also indicates that Ocean Palm is an old motel and does not have the beauty and amenities of the average motel of today. The office will always be smaller than the average and cramped and old-fashioned. The rooms for rent will always be smaller than the average. There will never be enough room on the parking lot on either side of the motel to turn a car around to exit, so most cars must back out onto the street. You may never accomplish covering up the window at both ends of the venitian blinds so that no one could peak in, if they wanted to. The locks on the door are by motel key (that a thief could duplicated) and not by plastic security card. I don't remember if they replaced their ratty outdoor stair and hall rugs or not. The rooms were recently given a new coat of paint and the rooms are clean and decent and the furniture was OK.

Some people are disappointed that the quality of the motel does not meet their dream of a lovely vacation motel. I was one of these persons when I first went to Ocean Palm Motel, so I stayed one night at Ocean Palm and then moved to Newport Oceanside Resort Hotel up the street.

However, on the times that I have returned to Haulover Beach, I again elected to stay at Ocean Palm Motel as it was less expensive, closer to the nude beach and there were nudists there to talk with on the patio around the pool, at the rear of the motel. It was nice to find nudist persons to talk to, since I went to Florida alone. I was not disappointed by this motel like on my first visit, because I knew what to expect from the motel.

Here is another way of looking at the expense of accomodations on a vacation.

You get to go on vacation once a year. Ocean Palm Motel may cost $85. (plus tax) and Newport Beachside Resort Hotel may cost $110. (plus tax) - $25. per night more. You save some money all year so that you can stay three nights at Newport Beachside Resort Hotel or some other upscale hotel. You pay this extra $75. once a year and enjoy this luxury for three nights a year. Are you being extravagant by treating yourself to better accomodations when you go on vacation once a year? Because you are staying at a nice hotel for three nights a year does not mean that you have to be rich.

If you would rather spend this extra $75. on beer or on DVDs or whatever, and then choose a two star motel at $25. per night less, fine, as there is nothing wrong with your choice and preference.

Since I do not have money but I do have excellent credit, I went to Europe two years ago on my credit cards. I am still paying on it monthly, and I am very glad that I made that choice. It all depends on your priorities, personal ambitions, and in my case, my credit. Have a good time - your way!
