They can all start making towels to sit on - imagine the designer towels we could all use - amazing patterns and shapes - the mind boggles at the possibilities.

There will always be a garment industry in my part of the country. Today it is -23C and we have warmed up from a windchill of -40. Down fill, polar fleece and the like are very very good things here!

Garment industry? Yeah, right, just like I thought there would always be a button-hook industry. For thinking that, I'm now no longer employed as a button-hook bender! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif

One thing we will always have, even with a clothing-optional world, is a clothing industry. When you sit down to think about it, clothes are sometimes necessary for reasons other than hiding.
Imagine going out to (snow) shovel the driveway nude. Not exactly my definition of pleasure, even clothed. But it becomes sheer torture nude.
Clothiers would either have to adapt to the changing market or close up shop. You can only have so many towels before you overstock.
Plus, everyone won't take to chaste nudity for a long time. We still have racists to this day, even though the civil rights movement happened in the fifties and sixties.
Clothing stores would be on a slow decline for a long time, perhaps a century or two.

i totally agree. the garment industry will never die out, because even if recreational nudity were to become accepted and legalized all over the country, nudity in the general workplace/office will NEVER be tolerated.
probably the only garment threatened by popular naturism would be the swimsuit, and to that i say good riddance http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

They could make more comfortable garments.
Heck, the Hat industry has done just fine without me.

As for their eternal existance, I wonder what things will be like in 200+ years when the average winter temperature day in Gnome Alaska is 94 degrees? Where will the polar fleece be worn then???
