Here is a picture of Haulover taken over the December vacation break. I use this picture as my wallpaper and use the nude streaker couple for my screensaver. It is historical to see them jog Haulover Beach.
This is the geatest nude beach in America!

Wow! I wish I could see the picture too.
I was there for 4+ days from December 28th to Jan 1st.
What days were you there? Maybe we actually met and don't even know it.

I sent in a picture of Haulover and the people on INA used it as one of this months new pictures, instead of posting it here. I emailed them that I wanted the picture to be part of my post but it was ignored! Sorry about that.
I was at Haulover last week for 10 days, highs in 80s, very crowded, very hot, it is THE BEST beach in America! I complained to INA that they are very west coast oriented based on all of their pictures, videos, etc, when we have the biggest, most popular, and busiest beaches on the east coast. Maybe they will see this post and add the picture to it.

Haulover is the only c/o beach I've ever been to, but I do love it. I'm glad I live so close.

those pictures make it look like the c/o part of haulover is right in front of condos. it is actually just south of the condos and the textile beach continues on south for quite a bit without any buildings. i will take a picture looking south one day so you all can see what i mean....

I took the photos with a telephoto lens to try and capture the colorful lifeguard stations. Although the beach isn't backed up by the condos, they are very close, maybe a few hundred feet, and I would love to have an apartment facing south in the first building next to the beach. It is the closeness to "reality" which makes Haulover so appealing. Unlike nude beaches in most other locations, it is right in the middle of everything, walkable from hotels and restaurants, and LEGAL.

Due to popular demand, we are happy to announce our first Haulover Friends Group Meet will take place at Haulover Beach on Saturday, March 29, 2003 (weather permitting).
I?ve had a number of people ask to setup something like this because they would like to get to know other members and make new friends. This will be an informal gathering of Group members. There is no set time, although I plan to be at the beach around 10:30 - 11:00 in the morning, maybe earlier. Feel free to plan to spend the day at the beach, bring your coolers, food, drink, etc., just please follow the beach rules.
For directions to the beach check this web page: http://floridanaturist.org/map/index.html and for information about what is acceptable and legal at Haulover, check this web page: http://floridanaturist.org/naturism/manners.html or ask someone in the Group.
I?d like to get an idea of who may be there, so please check the Polls for a kind of ?RSVP? poll. I will provide more details as to how to locate our Group and where I will try to be located. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to make them. Hopefully we can do this on a regular basis.

Well, Thanks, Corky!
I just hate to "hijack" someone else's board to promote my own stuff. It looks like we're going to have a nice turnout for our first time. I've even got reps from the local naturist association who will stop by and say hello to the group.
Should be a fun time for all!
Can anyone tell me how you say Haulover. Is it pronounced Hau-lover or Haul-over? I think I will be in Miami in a couple weeks for a visit and will check it out.

Hey Mel, as I hear it from the locals it's "Haul"-"over" just as the two words are pronounced separately in English.
By the way, we went on Saturday, but were rained out. The beach was very crowded until the rains started...hoping for better weather next weekend.

I sure wish I could join you on saturday. It's a 30 hour drive from here, but it would be worth the trip.
I hope you get some group pictures so you can post them on here and introduce us to everyone that makes it to the party.

Haulover Beach, 10800 Collins Ave., North Miami Beach, 305/947-3525.
Haulover is at the northern most part of North Miami Beach. Or right at the south end of Sunny Isles.
There are only a couple Motels within walking distance of the Nude beach. But the park has quite a large parking lot accross the street from the nude beach.
It's a $40 cab ride from the airport. I got fooled on that my first visit.

I believe that the beach acquired it's name from the fact that they hauled over large quantities of sand to increase the size and quality of the beach.

I just returned by airplane yesterday from the truly glorious Haulover Beach. The weather was warm making the sea breezes refreshing. I wish I were still there, and plan to save up to visit Haulover once in awhile.
I stayed at two nearby hotels on the beach which I wish to recommend, especially to those who are economy minded as I am.
The Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort, 16701 Collins Avenue, in the Sunny Isles section of north Palm Beach. They have their own pier with the very good Pelican Cafe over the ocean. The room has a small refrigerator and microwave. This resort is a ten minute (or less) walk on the beautiful white sand beach to Haulover Beach.
http://www.newportbeachsideresort.com
The other hotel is even closer and is approximately half the price of the first hotel, but not as grand, but is nice and I enjoyed staying there at Days Inn. There are two Days Inn on Collins Ave. but this is the northern-most one at 15811 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach FL 33160, Phone 305-940-0237.
Reference was made in a post above, to high cost of taxi cab fares from the airport. A person can take the shuttle vans called "Super Shuttle" at the airport to the mentioned hotels for $17. plus tip. There is a woman outside at ground level with the small yellow inscription of "Super Shuttle" above her left breast who signs you up and gets you a van for your shuttle trip to the hotel. (Super Shuttle phone number is 305-871-2000).
Cheaper air fare tickets can be ordered electronically at Expedia.com
One of my major reasons for going to Florida was to join an Elderhostel group in Key West Florida for six days. We all stayed at the old but dignified La Concha Hotel in the middle of Old Town. We spent half of our time in classroom study of Key West's flora, fauna, culture, history, it's writers, the ocean etc., and half the time we toured Key West sights, such as Harry Truman's holiday abode and Hemmingway's home, the massive old fort, a beach (picnic), etc.
I no longer have a wife to travel with as I am a widower. Most in the group were married couples but there were several widows in the group who were much fun.
Before visiting, as well as after visiting Key West, I stayed at those two hotels in Sunny Isles so that I could enjoy Haulover Beach.
The only place I know of in Key West that allows nude swimming and nude sunbathing is at Atlantic Shores Resort. From the way they bill themselves on their web page, I had some doubts about whether I should go there, as I might encounter very wild partying. However, I need not have been concerned about public behaviour. I sunbathed there nude and swam nude with both a number of hetrosexual couples and with many gays and everyone was well mannered and very well behaved, just like the people at the various nudist resorts I have attended - with the exception of noticing one very quick kiss between two men greeting each other, but they do that in the Middle East too (without erections. LOL.).

Great story and great info David! With any luck I'll manage to get down there by the end of the summer. I've copied some of the info since it's not likely I'll ever find this post again.
Thanks!

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>David77,
I am going to Haulover in May. I want a no-frills but clean hotel within easy walking distance of the nude section of Haulover.
Which would you pick between the Days Inn (where you just stayed) and Ocean Palm Motel (which is right next door)?
Thanks.

Thinker,
I did not mention it, but I did stay at Ocean Palms Motel first. I don't want to say anything against it as there is nothing essentially bad about it, but I will merely say it is "uninspiring, and to me, a little depressing" so I changed motels, and was happy that I did. The Days Inn (next door) is about the same price, and has better rooms. The Days Inn has electronic door key cards, whereas the Ocean Palms Motel had the old style key that anyone could make a copy from and steal your stuff while you are gone.
The Days Inn has a very heavy electronically connected safe-vault in each room (in the closet) to which you enter your own four number code of your choosing, where you can keep your wallet, your airline ticket, travelers checks, cash and credit cards secure while you are out on the beach in the nude. Days Inn is nicer in many ways than Ocean Palms Motel, in my opinion.
However, at least some of the rooms at Ocean Palms have a small refrigerator and microwave and small kitchenette sink and counter top in the corner of the room, but Days Inn does not have them.
The national reservation number for Days Inn is 1-800-325-2525. This particular Days Inn phone number is 305-940-0237. If you are a member of AAA you can ask for a discount.
Have a great time!

David77,
But does the Days Inn have a hotplate refridgerator and microwave in the room??
I have stayed at Ocean Palms but not at the Days Inn. I liked it for the kitchen. Saves alot on food costs ya know.
Just Wondering,
Steve

No, I can not find that any of the rooms at Days Inn have refrigerators, hot plates or microwaves. Possibly the microwave in the room where the continental breakfast is located could be used.

Although the weather was quite awful this past weekend at Haulover, I did attend the Save Our Beaches Seminar sponsored by South Florida Free Beaches/B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation which was held at the Radisson Deauville Resort on North Miami Beach. This was an excellent and informative event and although the attendance was good, I wish more people had attended. It made me wonder how many people truly care about our beaches and the future of naturism.
I truly enjoyed meeting many of the leaders of the current naturist movement including Corey Mangold. This gregarious and articulate young man is a true asset to naturism and I believe he will have an influence very similar to that of Lee Baxandall...especially among young folks in the U.S.A. and worldwide. He really impressed me.

/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif My wife and I just spent May 1-4 at Haulover, our last trip to Miami until next winter and though I feel sorry for all of the INA folks because the weather was poor when they were there, I have to admit that we had GREAT weather!
We arrived at FLL at 11:30 on Thursday, May 1 and it started to rain in the rental car lot, but by the time we reached Haulover it had stopped raining and was hot and overcast. By 2 it was totally clear and beautiful. The water was warm, rough, and very blue/green. With the sun setting at 7:45 we spent 4 great hours then went to South Beach to check in to our hotel and to have an equally great night.
Friday the weatherman promised sun and no rain so at 3:00 an electrical storm kicked us off the beach but it was not really raining so we walked north to Starbucks and relaxed, enjoying the warm weather. We went back to the car in the Haulover lot after the rain stopped and then spent a great evening on Lincoln Road, more good food, huge crowds, what happened to off-season?
Saturday and Sunday were picture perfect. We made it to the beach by 10:30 to get parking spaces and the beach was packed by 11:30. The water was calmer, warmer, and by Sunday, full of naked bodies. The volley ball players were going non-stop and the chair guy was almost out of umbrellas, and had rented most of his chairs (some a few times). We saw the regulars and many others and finally pulled outselves from the beach to make it to FLL to return the car and go back up north.
SO LONG HAULOVER. America's BEST nude beach, period. See you in December.
(and to all of you regulars who will continue to spend the summer and fall at Haulover all I can say is I envy you, and will continue checking the MIA-FLL weather everyday so I can daydream)
