i have read a few post about people answering their doors in the nude and i was wondering if it was against the law to do that even though you didnt mean it to be sexual. i was also wondering if you can get in trouble if you are seen walking around your house naked.i am sure it can be different for where you live and i live in wyoming so i am not sure.does anyone know anything about my questions.

Come on, how about some replies. I've got the same questions going around in my head too. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

We've had these questions before. Basically, laws
vary state to state. In terms of being naked in
your own home, it's a private property issue
that is usually upheld by the courts. It gets a
bit dicey if you're parading around a window
where others can see you. As for answering your
door in the nude..laws vary greatly on that one.

Answering the door in the nude shouldn't be considered offensive, especially if the person happens to be a salesman or a food delivery (pizza) person. They should be used to this at times. I'm sure they, at times, have hit upon customers who may be relaxing in the nude at home. And for the salesmen, if you do not wish for these particular people to keep showing up at the door, then maybe answering the door in the nude may be the answer. I'm sure the word will get around, to avoid "the house with the naked person".

Sorry guys: after reading my response, I realized I never answered the question. Answering the door in the nude, to me, shouldn't be considered against the law, especially if the person is a saleman. The salesman is trying to make a presentation for his product, and going door to door, I'm sure they have seen many types of dressed or even non-dressed persons before. They are knocking at "your" door during "your" time of leisure. For them to invade your privacy shouldn't be considered unlawful, especially if you like to relax in the nude, and nobody is expected.
On the other hand, the "pizza boy" could be a different story. YOU made the call for a delivery, and YOU are expecting someone to come up to your door. This may be a fine line on unlawful behaviour. Granted, the "pizza boy" may not be offended, but when he/she gets back to the business and starts to tell everyone, serious allegations could ensue, especially if the person they told is the boss. I'm sure some bosses will "stick up" for their employees, just to make themselves look good, and make the call to local law enforcement authorities.
Excellent question. I'm looking forward to further responses on this subject.
To avoid offending anyone, I won't say which religion this was. I heard a story about a woman who couldn't get rid of pesky and determined people at her door. Personally, I would have simply closed the door as I've done.
The husband was nude and figured he would get rid of them and went to the door nude. After one look they quickly left and never returned, and they supposedly had no more such callers. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I asked some of them if this type of thing did indeed happen, and if so, how did they handle it. They all gave me pretty much the same response, in slightly different words, but basically as follows:
"I see I've caught you at a bad time. I'll leave this tract (or magazine, or whatever) here on your porch, and perhaps we can talk again at a later time."
And they told me yes, they do send someone back at a later time, but usually someone of the same sex as the person who answered the door undressed. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Just FYI. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
From what I was told the people in the story didn't handle the situation that well. They were so embarrassed that they never returned or sent anyone else. They were probably both women who were too flustered to know what to do so they left hurriedly. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

just a quick note.that group has guns pulled on them, dogs turned loose, and rocks thowed at them.
a nude person is not really going to faze them.
and they will not complain to the police about how you answer the door.i do not think any of the groups really care.lol they are not the clothes police.
thank you for all the advise and feed back one my topic.i may have to try it sometime instead of running around the house to cover up to answer the door.

I live in an enclosed apartment building. That means the only people likely to see how I answer my door are either the neighbors directly across the hall or visitors to our place.
My husband works nights, and I walk him to the front door every night to lock it behind him. Nude. If the neighbors are peeking out their peephole, they'll get an eyefull. And anyone wandering the building at midnight shouldn't be surprised at anything they find. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
At least they'll know I'm not the one who left the thong from Victoria's Secret laying in the laundry room! /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

That's interesting. Recently, I was talking on a portable phone at home, when the doorbell rang. Wearing only sweatpants and still listening on the phone, I opened the door to find a middle aged women, with a teen boy behind her. She was clearly representing a door-to-door ministry. She used exactly the words that you mention. So I guess that it's in the manual.
I must admit that I was frustrated that I was preoccupied with the phone, because otherwise I would have answered the door nude. I would have explained that I am a nudist, and if they were OK with that, I was prepared to invite them in to listen to them.

I think that it's necessary to consider how the person arrived at your door. If you invited the person (e.g. pizza delivery), it seems to me that the person would have a stronger complaint than if he/she arrived unsolicited (e.g. door-to-door ministry).
I was talking to a female police officer a while ago who mentioned in the course of conversation that the police regularly encounter nude guys when they go to someone's house. She said that they will come to the window nude to see who's at the door, or even answer the door nude. She said that they ignore the nudity.

The rule of thumb i would use is if its someone unexpected then you can answer however you like. If its someone you expect then put something on. Its just something we all are going to have to deal with.
In terms of gettig in trouble for hanging around your house nude, i dont think you can get in trouble unless you are flaunting your nudity in front of windows for more than a couple seconds.
Just be a little more discrete than normal and you'll be fine.

i think it is rude to have door to door salesman bug me at home. like i don't get enough bothersome phone calls. i think i shall start answering the door in the nude in order to scare off the salesmen (although the dog alomst slipping through my clothed legs did a pretty good job yesterday!!)
As much as I'd like to answer the door nude, and I've come close, I don't. I can usually see someone approaching before they reach the house. I have answered in just a shirt, or robe. I was outback, washing the car, heard a vehicle pull in the driveway, it was UPS, I dashed to grab something, and I believe the guy saw me, before I was covered, just a shirt, and got to the door. Nothing was mentioned. For FedEx, or UPS, or USPS, I'll cover, as a courtesy, if I get surprised by someone unexpected, well, no guarantees. I've thought of putting a small sign on the door warning of nudity, anyone else do that?

I have some friends that put up a sign like that at their place. Warning you are entering a clothing optional area you may encounter nudity or something like that. They regularly answer the door nude, of course they have plenty of shrubs and a porch railing to screen the view from the street.
I'm about to repeat my again for anyone who doesn't like it.
I was taken in, questioned and sent to a shrink to be evaluated because a young boy looked in my uncovered window and saw me nude. I now keep my windows covered. Sometimes boys come up to my house to ask about cutting my grass. I can look through the window on the door and see who's there before opening the door, but why take the chance that a child will see me and say something to dad who calls the police on me again? /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Jon-Marc,
That is a very sad story. Someone can peek into a window at a private residence and call the police because they feel we must follow their dress code in our own home. THAT is what we want to fight.
That's why I find it difficult to believe a lot of the claims that people make about their nude adventures in their yard and other places. Some of it may be true and some of it fabricated, and I suppose people's attitudes could be changing in our favor. It could also depend on the area. I was in the Air Force in a Military base house, though it wasn't on the military base. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
