I woke up at 03:30 this morning. The sky was clear and the moon was very bright. Barely enough light for cycling barely.

I decided that I would cycle naked around the lake we live on, thereby extending my nude universe to include all of the lake. It's a 20 km trip.

I left home at 04:00. The temperature was 13C (= 55F) and the air was still. At this time of the morning I had no concerns at all about being nude.

I rode at a steady pace the whole time, stopping only once to check a road sign. Most of the time I could see the edge of the road well. However, one stretch of road about 5 km long is heavily treed on both sides, leaving the road dark. I had to slow down somewhat and ride down the center to be sure that I wouldn't run off the edge.

I passed lots of houses and farms on my circuit of the lake, but of course everyone was still asleep, except for a few coyotes and some dogs that barked as I passed by. Sometimes they were 50 metres or more away -- amazing hearing, considering that I was making very little sound.

The ride was pleasant and good exercise but much less of a sensory experience than riding naked in the sunlight and being able to enjoy views of the countryside.

By the time that I returned home at 05:00, having been riding for an hour at 13C temperature, I was quite chilled -- especially fingers and toes. So I jumped into our hot tub and enjoyed the tingling sensation.

I am not as daring as you, Gary. Also I have biked nude, but only short trips on the quiet gravel roads in the island of a lake where my summer home is located. There is a significant risk of being seen by persons living in the neighborhood who know me.

I have cycled nude there four times during three last summers. One time 0.9 km away at a summer night, which are very light here. Not so daring - I couldn't expect anyone else to move at that time. Another time 1.7 km away in the morning to get the newspaper; then I was seen by a man who knows me. Nothing has been talked about the incident later. The third time I intended the same, but when I saw a walker (probably the same man) ahead me, I returned back, being then 1.4 km away.

And this summer, the fourth time. This trip was 0.9 km in one direction to get the newspaper at the mailbox around 10 o'clock. (The paper is delivered to different places on workdays, a group of private mailboxes, and in the weekend, a communal box.) It was raining, and I thought it would reduce the risk of being seen to near zero. I didn't want to get any clothes wet, so I did it nude, and I succeeded (wasn't seen).

By the way, summer rain is usually not cold. People in general find rain unpleasant and feel coldness, but this comes from the wet clothes. When you are nude in the rain, you feel the real temperature of the water, which can be higher than that of the air.

Hi Gary. Glad you enjoyed yourself. What are the laws in your area about nudity? Here in Florida USA they will arrest you in a heart beat and then we will be labled a sex offender just for riding a bike nude. It seem like all the sex offenders end up in Florida as seen by the recent happenings and it has everyone uptight about simple nudity. Even at the beaches you have problems and have to be careful of what you do or wear. Hopefully they can come up with some laws that all can live with about nudity. We had an older man who lives on Snell Island who was wearing just a long tee shirt and shoes when it was still dark in the morning and he was arrested. So be careful about who sees you..Cheers..NoodJuggler http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hope you don't mind me answering for Gary. This link from the Federation of Canadian Naturists http://www.fcn.ca/nulawbgd.html quotes the applicable federal laws. There may be some additional local bylaws, and of course the degree of enforcement can vary from place to place, but in general Canadians don't take nudity in public nearly as seriously as you guys do. The Janet Jackson Superbowl fiasco could not have happened up here (or in most parts of the world for that matter!)

Gary is facing a real risk of being detained and perhaps charged, but it is not very likely. Sound about right to you, Gary?

RE:""I have a concern about getting a flat tire when I'm 1.5 hours walking time from home""

Hmmm. Why then You not put the reserve camera, or glue and rubber piece, and something to release wheel nuts in the instrument bag on bike frame, the same as air pump. Best models would have a very tiny weight and size.

Bicycle tyres really are extremely sensitive against a beaten glass bottles, nails and sharp stones - and land is full of this sh##.
