I think the private messages feature is very nice when you have something to say that you don't want to shout to the whole group. However, I wonder if new users even know that feature exists. There are no clear links that take the user to that page. I know I can get there from "View/Edit My Profile" but that is not very intuitive.

I love this option /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif ...I just wish everyone I wanted to pm had their profiles set up so they too could take advantage of this Great Feature /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
No offense, but those who elect not to utilize this feature...make me suspicious of who they really are and why they are posting on this BB in the first place /infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Look at the icon "Private Message" in this post.
Enjoy!

Enjoy!

Sure, the ability to send a private message is right there on each post, but what I was saying was that knowing that someone sent you a private message and figuring out where to read them was the challenge. It does not seem intuitive that you choose "View/Edit My Profile" to read private messages, unless you already knew that detail.
There is an indicator near the top of each page. It alerts you as to how many messages you have (although, mine is still alerting me to messages I've looked at).

I haven't received one lately, but if I remember, when you get a PM there is a message right below your name on the main forum page (assuming you are logged in). I believe it contains a link to the PM board.

Corky as much as I would like to say you are right...after wanting to pm several who have posted lately...it isn't always there and the only way to say anything to them is to put it on the bb for everyone else to read too /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I think the private messaging is a great feature. I am getting to know several individuals within the group this way and it is worth my time. The individuals I occasionally chat with via the IM's are wonderful people. It is not always easy to say what you want to say on a message board, but the message board is very valuable as well. I take advantage of both systems on a regular basis and I am grateful to the forum's improvements that continue rapidly. I just renewed my membership for another year and I encourage everyone to renew when its time. The forum needs its members and the members need the benefits that INA affords its membership. Blessings to one and all. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I've sent a couple of PM's to people and so far they have not read them. Does this mean their flashing envelope thingy doesn't work?
One was to Naturistmark on July 17. Just wondering. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i like p.m.'s also; they are fun. and it is a good place to discuss things that we might not want everyone to hear. i am fortunate in that most of my p.m.'s have been from great, nice people as well. i sometimes check there, but not everyday, unless i am expecting a p.m. i have made a local friend through the p.m. and it has enabled us to chat together until we were both comfortable in meeting one another.
i think most people who have it off do so because they do not understand how it works, not because they are sneaky weasles. some people might be afraid it sends an email to them on their computer and do not want their privacy invaded. if someone has a question about p.m., they should ask it here so we can all clarify it for them.

I have gotten to know quite a few here through the PM feature. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I have only had one questionable PM, but it was a new guy and I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He never said anything again like he did the first time. I think he has left the forums since that time. So everyone go ahead and use this feature. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
