Hi Brian,
Interestingly enough, I wrote a song about this at the first AANR East Youth Leadership Camp, and it was a great feeling to have 29 campers on stage singing this song.
PROUD TO BE A NUDIST (to the tune of Proud to be an American)
WE’RE THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW’S WORLD
FROM EVERY WALK OF LIFE
AND WE THINK WE’VE FOUND A WAY TO LIVE
TO END ALL WAR AND STRIFE
WE’RE SO HAPPY TO BE HERE TODAY TO
AND WE WON’T GIVE UP OUR RIGHT TO LIVE
FREE AND PROUD AND NUDE
CHORUS:
AND I’M PROUD TO BE A NUDIST
TO STAND HERE BARE AND FREE
TO BE UNASHAMED OF WHO I AM
TO BE JUST AS GOD MADE ME
AND I’LL GLADLY STAND BARE NEXT TO YOU
AND REMEMBER ALL THE DAY
‘CAUSE THERE IS NO DOUBT I’LL ALWAYS SAY
NUDE IS THE ONLY WAY
WE’VE COME TOGETHER AT WHITE TAIL PARK
TO CELEBRATE OUR DAY
WE’VE LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT EACH OTHER
THE IMPORTANCE OF FAIR PLAY
WE ACCEPT OURSELVES FOR WHO WE ARE
AND NOT JUST HOW WE LOOK
WE DON’T JUDGE EACH OTHER BY WHAT WE WEAR
LIKE THE COVER OF A BOOK
CHORUS X2:
AND I’M PROUD TO BE A NUDIST
TO STAND HERE BARE AND FREE
TO BE UNASHAMED OF WHO I AM
TO BE JUST AS GOD MADE ME
AND I’LL GLADLY STAND BARE NEXT TO YOU
AND REMEMBER ALL THE DAY
‘CAUSE THERE IS NO DOUBT I’LL ALWAYS SAY
NUDE IS THE ONLY WAY

I would have to say a 10 becaause I am proud of the fact that I do not need clothing to feel comfortable with strangers and can accept anyone's size, shape, body, etc. Accepting people for who they are rather than who you might want them to be is in my mind a pretty high level of communication and humanity.

Thanks for the question, Backpacker Brian. It made me think a bit.
Scale of 1 to 10: 1 (<-------- this is not a misprint)
I do not find my practice of naturism as a prideful activity. It is just one aspect of my being. It goes along with my thoughts and actions to help preserve the environment, being an accepting person, and wanting to be closer to nature. It does not compare to the pride I feel of being a father, having achieved some minor career goals, and other things.
I think the song above by Walt is good fun. The following part of the second verse is how I try to live:
"WE’VE LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT EACH OTHER
THE IMPORTANCE OF FAIR PLAY
WE ACCEPT OURSELVES FOR WHO WE ARE
AND NOT JUST HOW WE LOOK
WE DON’T JUDGE EACH OTHER BY WHAT WE WEAR
LIKE THE COVER OF A BOOK"
This how I try to live on a daily basis. One does not have to be a nudist to practice the virtue of being non-judgmental and accepting.
Thanks again for the question, Brian. Nice to fire some synapses in the morning while enjoying the coffee.

I would have to vote for a 10 also. Even though I am not able to be naked as much as I like, I do enjoy the evening hours and weekends, when ALL the kids are gone. Then I don't have to cover up while inside. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Brian..this question is like the teacher lecturing to the students in class about absenteeism! She preaching to the wrong crowd. There is probably no more proud nudist than the one that supports the nudist venues, participates on the nudist web sites and contributes to the lifestyle. Many of the regular posters on this forum appear to be some of the most enthusiastic, fun-loving, and proudest nudists I have ever heard of.

i would also say a 10. life as nudist maens a freedom, few can understand, because they are slaves to the textile world, and its endless fashion trends. what a wonderful world it would be if it was as it was supposed to have been.

hell yes. I am a proud nudist, In fact, average about six hour per day nude, Nude now and will stay that way and if you count sleep time it is close to 14. At work or play I am as close to being nude as is allowed. As i never wear underwear what you can see is what I have got on.

I would have to say that I cannot rate on such a scale my pride to be a nudist. I can however say that I am a 10 when it comes to my happiness when able to shed my clothes whether at home or at a more public venue. I am also happiest when I see freedoms granted and least happy when I see setbacks in the naturist movement. I'd rate it more as a "happy to be a naturist" thing. Thought provoking question...thanks.

I don't know if Proud is the right word.
I'm certainly Happy about it. I've never felt so at ease with myself and my body.
The feeling of being out in nature or just working around the yard is something so many people will never know.
The silly shame and guilt that parents teach their children about their bodies is such a set back to society. I firmly believe that if Nudity was more common there would be far less problems in the world.
I'm Glad to be a part of that.

Proud? I’m personally not proud of anything.
As I read it though, to scale a number, I would have to think, “How willing/comfortable would I be to reveal to people that I’m a nudist.”
If I think of it that way, I would probably come up with 2.
I am very willing to advocate nudism (and often have) with friends, co-workers, or strangers, but I never mention that I’m a nudist.
95% of the time I’m home, I’m nude.
Weather permitting, if I’m in my backyard, I’m nude.
I haven’t worn sleepwear since the last time I was in the hospital (maybe 10 years ago).
If you don’t count those times, I haven’t worn sleepwear since I moved out of my parent’s house 22 years ago.
So, the only time I’m clothed is when I would otherwise be arrested, which means a very large portion of my life is spent nude.
But, that doesn’t make me proud to be a nudist.
The number of times I’ve been to a nudist venue would be less than ten.
So, do I even count as a nudist?
Having my nude picture here is the most “exposure” I’ve ever had.
Is just being nude for a portion of everyday enough to qualify me as a nudist?
My God, how did I get so far off track?
I better just stop typing.

Proud? Hmmm. If anything I'm proud that I've overcome the repressive beliefs of a society that fails, sometimes, to fully appreciate diversity, that I can accept myself and others as we are, not as our clothing makes us out to be. I'm proud that nudism has taught me how to be open to others. I'm happy and accepting of the person I've become through the practice of nudism. And mostly, I'm glad of the friendships I would never have made were it not for being a nudist.
Viva la nu personnes!!

Exactly, proud is not the word i'd use here, it's just my lifestyle, what i am proud of though, it's that i am debt free and my condo had already been paid for, http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm a 10 in being proud to share and help advocate this wonderful nudist life I'm living, but there is so much more to the whole life that nudism brings about worth more than words or numbers can show.

Can't say the word proud is appropriate but am not at all ashamed of it. Am qhite happy with who and what I am where I tend to my own affairs, keep to myself, do not force my way on others, self maintain, and do good where I can keeping God and country first and my fellow humans next. Also love animals (they are simply delicious .... ) and rescue ferrets, a great animal if you learn what is needed to correctly keep them. Just wish neighbors would sell out to other nudists so I could be more free at home !

I am not ashamed in anyway, but pride comes with an accomplishment! Like wrestling for years with the idea , then going for it and actually enjoying it. Then I would be proud that I accomplished something!

Ahhhhh, barbararuth . . . you didn't go deep enough. It isn't so much IF you are proud to be a nudist . . . but WHY. That's the meat of the question.

You all have a very good point. Proud may not be the best word. Perhaps better is,
"Are you honored to be a nudist . . . and WHY?"

YES! I am definitely proud to be a nudist/naturist! I am proud to be a nudist because I know that I have achieved a level of self confidence about myself, my body, and my coimfort in being nude (totally devoid of clothing and artificial barriers) in situations that I choose. I am proud to be comfortable in a state of dress (actually, undress) that the majority of the population is not. I am proud of that because it gives me a freedom that most do not have.

For me it has nothing to do with being "proud" or "honored". I just simply prefer being nude.

I have my own belief system and will not claim to be something I am not. Therefore, everything I am and claim to be I support 100%.
I am proud to be a nudist as nudism is one aspect of my philosophy of life. Just as I am proud to be Jewish, a conservative, etc.
If you can't support something 100% then why would you claim it as your own?

Proud/Honoured ???
Well I'm certainly not ASHAMED which I think may be the oposite to PROUD
I find it hard to think how a person could be honoured to be a nudist. I think we may be honoured by each other e.g. Jon- Marc has the honour of having very high points on this forum. Honour to me seems to be something that you get from others, I am honoured to know you, perhaps you are honoured to know me. I can only feel honoured to be a nudist if I think others in this world think that [nudity] is a position of high respect, [nudity] is a glorious position to be.
If a textile says "I am honoured to know a person who is a nudist" is that more honourable than if a nudist says the same thing to another nudist. I don't think any of my friends, nudist or otherwise view nudity as honourable BUT on the otherhand I am sure that ALL my friinds know that nudity is NOT dishonourable. Some of my relatives think nudity is a bit weird but certainly not dishonerable. Therefore if nudity is not dishonourable does it follow that it IS HONOURABLE and if it is honourable then we must all feel honoured. WOW what a ramble around in circles http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
I feel proud that I have overcome my in bred inhibitions and realised that feeling happy and comfortable nude is just great http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Also that I am happy to tell people that I am a nudist

Brian,
Good question! And there is nothing wrong with your choice of words, either. We know what you meant by the question. And to talk about how you asked it is simply avoiding answering. I suspect that SOME of those who avoided answering don't feel a sense of accomplishment from being a nudist because they are never nude socially.
As for me, yes I feel a certain sense of accomplishment at being BRAVE enough initially to go nude in front of crowds of other people at nude beaches and resorts and I am PROUD of the fact that I was able to overcome my initial fears and try nude recreation. I am still PROUD of the fact that I continue to be entirely comfortable being nude with others and part of that pride lies in the fact that I have become so accepting of other people and so much more open minded. I can thank nudism (the lifestyle) for these positive changes in my life!

I don't think I am honored or proud. I am proud of my beliefs and views I think, especially concerning the openess and logic of simple social nudity being normal.

I think I'm with everyone else here who says it's not so much about being proud to be a nudist as it is that I am not ashamed of being one.
Being a nudist in and of itself is enough for me. I enjoy it, I share this with my friends and family who I have developed trusting relationships with. I will share this with anyone whom I decide to put in that catagory. I do not yet have proud to be a nudist bumper stickers on my car and I don't know if I ever will, that for me isn't the issue.
I just find it enjoyable and I love doing it and I like sharing the experience with friends and family.

In spite of some of the comments made in this thread, I am still proud to be a nudist/naturist. I do not blab it all over town; I do not have bumper stickers on my vehicles (sorry, TNS, I still haven't used my TNS window sticker anyplace). I guess I am proud of myself that I am comfortable with my body, with or without the presence of other people around me. I am proud of this accomplishment, it is indeed an accomplishment! I just know that I can be comfortable while nude, with or without the company of other people, clothed or un-clothed. I am secure in that, so I have no need to blab it all over town. I'm repeating myself - so I'll shut up, now!

I very much agree with Steve, I do not think of it as being proud just a very enjoyable way of life, just wish the rest of society thought the same way because despite it being so enjoyable I still feel the majority think of us as being odd for not wearing clothes. I am proud of the fact I can live the way I do and not be closed minded, stuck up, or be a weirdo about it, just because i'm naked with others.
