Jason,

By all means put a generous coat of sunscreen on your genitals. You may want to buy a sports type product that doesn't come off with sweat. After a dip in the sea or a few hours have passed, put more on.

If you exposing parts of your body to the sun for the first time ever, go real easy. Increase your exposure gradually to avoid burns.

Even here in Georgia, I avoid the midday sun. A Miami area beach gets lots more radiation at midday than we do. Why not chill out under the palms with a cool drink in the heat of the day?

Unless you are pasty white, your genitals will have more pigment than the rest of your body, but that Miami sun burns all but the blackest of complexions and even black folks can get sunburn.

If you don't shave your pubic hair it will provide a little bit of shade, but your penis and the lower part of the scrotum have no relief from the sun unless you provide the protection yourself.

If you try a new sunscreen, test a little bit on yourself at first to make sure you do not get a rash from a harsh chemical.

Oh, by the way, those instant tan products do not protect your skin, they just color it.

If you go to a tanning bed, keep your genitals covered with a small towel the whole time.

Nature provides a little extra protection for a man's genitals, but why not give nature a helping hand with sunscreen?
Your privates are the worst possible place for skin cancer that I can think of.

JasonE: By all means, use sunscreen. I had my penis sunburnt one year. Not a good feeling. Talk about being uncomfortable, it was very hard to walk around with shorts, or anything for that manner, without trying to keep the fabric from rubbing. I learned my lesson. It sure felt great getting a "tan", but after a couple of hours, the burning sensation finallly hit.

Jason,
By all means use lots of sunscreen. I would start with atleast 30, and be sure its waterproof. You may also consider a "shake & bake" tan (tanning bed) to get a base. Use lotion here to. After the sun use a aleo after screen lotion.
Nothing hurts worse than a burnt member, especially if it is rubbing against clothing, be sure to cover your rear to.
