Are there any places out there where you can hike naked and run into other naked people? Or run into clothed people who don't care? The only places I've ever hiked naked for any distance are in Maui and Kauai. Anywhere else? Anyone have any stories?

There "out" in so far land as US I dont know, but here in "oldie goodie" Europe such places are PLENTY. Just take a good topo map and read it. Most problems You may get is the lack of companions (!) nor a lack of places.
As an example I sometimes use to undress in the midway to our naturist beach as soon the city boarders collapse into the wood massive. By it I may travel unclothed about 5 km until there is a last barrier - a railway line and after 300 meters the dunes.
If one knows the naturist places, why to not use it? Of course that Your (US) National organisations ought to have a list of all places displacement. Just read it.
Perhaps it would be better to re-formulate Your topic as - "do someone ever knows the especially attractive route leading... etc etc". Because I dont know America well, then I would use to shut silent.

Angeles National Forrest near Bouquet reservoir is a nice place and desolate. Near Rowher Jeep Trail. Or head into the desert.

I enjoy nude hiking in here in British Columbia, between Pemberton and Squamish. The closed fire and logging roads are just about perfect for "free-hiking, as far as I am concerned. I have not run into other nude hikers, but have run into other clothed hikers on a couple of occasions, who have not seemed to perturbed. I was a little mortified the first time, but what can you do. Exchanged hellos, a good natured comment about "one way of keeping cool", and that was that. Perhaps there is something to the laid-back West Coast attitude.

i once went nude hiking in a public park. my wife and i were off the beaten path and it was during the week when everbody was at work,or so i thought. after walking a few feet my wife warned me of oncoming people (textiles). i quickly put on my short pants just in time for them to see me. who knows-maybe they were doing the same.now i enjoy hiking at nudist resorts/lodges.

I enjoy nude hiking and often hike in places you don’t expect to see anyone. On occasion I run into other clothed hikers or bikers and they just smile and move along. I usually carry a pair of short just in case there may be kids so I could easily slip them on.
It would be nice to find locations I could go to socially interact with other people that enjoy hiking nude as well. I talk to many people that are interested but they fear the laws and fines of nudity. The way I see it… If I’m in an area you wouldn’t expect to find people I’m safe and so far that seems to be working for me.

Yes, especially in the spring. One I can highly reccomend is the hike to Deep Creek hotsprings from the Bowen ranch. It's about three miles and I have done it nude everytime and I usually see one or two other nude hikers. If you are in a wilderness area you will generally at least find acceptance if nothing else. One more thing nudism seems to be more acceptable near a likely skinney dipping spot. So if there is a lake or a stream nearby to go skinny dipping in you might get less of a reaction. But I have also hiked nude out in the desert as well. The more remote the less likely anyone you meet will complain.

We have a whole group of naked hikers, based here in Seattle. We've had one already this season, but most will start on warm days in April. Lots of snow in the mountains this year, so will be lots of spring hikes on snow.

Actually, two weeks ago I took a short hike to Deep Creek Hot Springs. (Unfortunately I started late and only got as far as the creek.) I parked at Bowen Ranch and everything I've read about the hike says that due to the remoteness, nude hiking is possible. Although I didn't partake of the nude hiking, I came across two guys (they were coming up as I was going down) who did. Not totally nude as they had shirts on, but I could see they wore no pants. I may try it on my next hike there.
I have been hiking to Deep Creek Hot Springs for many years now. About two years ago I asked the Bowen Ranch attendent (Mike) if he had any objections to nudity on ranch property. he said as long as no one complains it is fine with him. Since I always drive nude to go there, I now also stay nude when paying the entrance fee (as long as there are no cars in line). Since the hot springs are a well known nudist area most people do not object to people hiking nude. In fact I do not even carry shorts with me any more. The last time I was there was Jan. 7. the water in the creek is very cold, however the hot springs are perfect.

I posted a similar question on Yahoo answers and the general answers were positive. Most don't care, saying they would smile and say "hello"then be on their way.Others said they would strip and join the fun.

Practically anywhere along the Appalachian Trail you can run across nude hikers or those that don't give a wit that others are nude hikers. The cases of prudery amongst the hikers of the trail are able to be counted on one hand and are usually 'city-folk' way, way out of their element.

My job takes me out to Ridgecrest/China Lake quite often which is in the Mojave Desert. After a day of work in a lab under flourescent lights I absolutely FESTER to peel of my clothes and go for a hike. Every day after work just to keep my serenity in check I head out to the desert for my afternoon naturist walk sabbatical. From Ridgecrest, I go out CA-178 East towards Trona about 15 miles to a road marked Trona Pinnacles. That drops me off in San Bernardino County in the Searles Lake Valley just west of the SW corner of Death Valley National Park. It's all dirt roads that spread out for miles all over the valley. I've been out there many times and can probably count on one hand the number of times I've seen another car and they are so far away they don't even notice I'm there. I'll park off to the side of one of the dirt roads and head out "cross country" into the wilderness. It's all flat so I can see if anybody is coming for miles in any direction. I've gotten as comfortable as to leave everything back at the car and go out for miles completely unencumbered. It's a ways out there, but it's well worth the wonderful feeling to have that kind of freedom... http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/cool4.gif

I'm wondering if anyone knows good nude hiking spots in the Great Smokies area? Perhaps ones with waterfalls or soaking spots for warm summer day-hikes?

I would like to do some nude hiking in Ohio. Does anyone know of any good places? We hike at our local resort, I like to do it barefoot.

That sounds absolutely cool. I'd love to go there. I'm heading to CA in March, but I'll be in Palm Springs area. Last year I hiked "au natural" in the Painted Desert, climbing up through the slot canyons and hiking w/o seeing a sole until on my way back to the car, about 1.5 or 2 hrs later. Anyone know any other cool, naturist-friendly hikes nearby?

Wiggle It, there are some really good places in and around the Great Smokies.
There are parts of the Nantahala that have not been seen by 'white' men yet, especially in the Gorge. There are wonderful falls in that Gorge, too
And there is always the area around Cades Cove.

Nacktman you are right on about the smokies. Beautifull place in NC. I have been to Puerto Rico a few times and went to the El Yunque rainforest hiking and went to a few swimming holes under falls and people of all ages were swimming nude and clothed. We weren't dressed for swimming and had the inlaws with children with us so skinnydipping was out of the question but not for that I would have peeled off joined the swimmers. I hope to return someday. Norbert and dickm, Lovely background country in the pics.

Hey NakedBoyLA. When you went on those hikes in Hawaii, did you encounter any trouble with the authorities out of curiosity? I have read that there is at least one nude beach in Hawaii. I just can't recall exactly where it is or was or the name of the beach itself.

I can't answer for all the nude beaches in Hawaii but I do know that Hawaii Island has Little Beach (of considerable fame) and Kauai Island seems to have it's fare share of nude options. I have personally been to two nude beaches, Secret Beach and Donkey Beach. The latter was apparently 'closed down' by authorities sometime after my wife and I were there in the mid-90s but I believe Secret Beach is still open.
The Pali Coast offers pure wilderness and lots of hiking opportunities and miles of sandy beaches. Apparently a lot of naturist hiking takes place there. At least that's what I've read.

hikingman;
I would be careful in Ohio. If a boy, or worse a girl sees you nude, you could be charged with violation of a stupid law. You could then be placed on a sexual predators list.
All this for an innocent naked walk in nature. Even Stu said this was okay.

It sure would be great to find a hiking spot, where you could totally relax hiking nude. Personally, I am always vigelant, looking and listening for textiles on a trail, and prepared to cover up. Sure would be nice to put on headphones and listen to music and TOTALLY relax while hiking! I've heard that the trails around DeAnza Springs are naturist friendly and plan to check them out later this spring.
In the Desert, I've been caught a couple of times, and I usually break the ice by saying "if it gets any hotter, I'm going to have to peel off my skin too!" - I usually just get a smile or a hello.

Ditto for Deep Creek Hot Springs. I've been going there since 1990 and have enjoyed driving in and hiking naked all over the area. A few years ago I spotted a ranger near the ranch coming from the springs in my direction. I put on shorts to be safe. As I approached her she seemed a little distressed with the heat. I offered her water and took advantage of the opportunity to ask about nudity on the trail as well as the springs. She smiled and said you can be nude all around here if you want. That was all I needed. Off came the shorts and I was on my way. Last fall I was down at the springs on a very windy day. When I got ready to leave I noticed my shorts had blown away somewhere. I had to hike out naked with no back up. It is always nice at the springs.

And exactly where is this wonderful sounding spot?
The hot springs are located in the San Bernardion National Forest in Southern California. There is an excelant web sight, www.deepcreekvolunteers.com (http://www.deepcreekvolunteers.com) that has directions on how to get there. I always park at Bowen Ranch and hike in from there. For anyone coming to Southern California I would highly recommend a hike to the hot springs. Just be sure to bring plenty of water to drink. Also please carry out your trash, this is a beautiful area and we would like to keep it that way.

I used to hike nude in SE Ohio in Wayne National Forest several times a summer, usually on weekdays. I decided it was not worth the risk of getting fined or worse. I met a few people and never had any negative reactions.
Bare Valley Resort located north of Logan, OH has some nice trails and abuts (no pun intended http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif) a secluded part of Wayne NF. The owners told me folks have hiked into the NF with no problems there but I never found where the trails connected when I have been there.
There are volumes of discussions about the legal status of hiking nude on federal lands in the rec.nude Usenet group and elsewhere on the internet. There is a also a very good Yahoo Group devoted to nude hiking.
