What songs from your past bring back the most memories? What songs remind you of a special event or person in your life? What song always evokes a smile?

For What it's Worth by The Buffalo Springfield reminds me of the Viet Nam war and all the protest songs that came from that war.
Anytime I hear a song by Creed, I am reminded of my trip to Chicago to see my son graduate from boot camp. (He loves Creed). /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
Stuck in the Middle With You by Steelers Wheel reminds me of all my buddies here on forums! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Just today I heard the Mickey MOuse song and it reminded me of Missouriboy. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
So I ask, what songs bring back memories for you?

When I moved back to my home state of Oregon for a couple of years with winter temps staying below zero for weeks on end. The song California Dreaming was playing through my head rather frequently.

hw, one of many.

To me the best summer was '87 ( my so called summer of love)

To all you older than me, I was only 2 in '69 so that can't count.

"Talk Dirty to Me." by Poison is the song that brings '87 back to me. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

This may sound crazy, but I have a fond memory of Gordon Lightfoot's "Sundown." I remember being in this supermarket outside Kansas City about two years ago, hearing this song in the cereals/breads aisle, and just struting to the beat.

Another song I have fond memories of is "Africa" by Toto. When I was little, my mom would have the local lite-rock station on the radio in the living room when she was cleaning the house, and this song was in the rotation even though it was a hit nearly five years before.

For me, Carol King's You've Got a Friend is one of my most special songs. It was a favorite of a very special girlfriend of mine. She was a free spirit type, played that song almost continually and, to the best she could, tried to live it. She was killed in a car crash in 1978 and to this day I feel her presence every time I hear it.

Well, I was only two back in the summer of '87, so that year doesn't work for me either! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

In fact, I don't think I've had a summer! /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

However, two songs this topic brings to mind are

1. "Hero" by the Verve Pipe. Without it, I would've barely made it through my sophomore year of high school.

2. "Tonight, Tonight" by the Smashing Pumpkins. Way back when, my mom would forbid us to listen to any 'secular' music or watch MTV. So, after my parents separated, my sister and I would go to our "Disneyland Dad"'s house, where he would let us watch the accursed channel. "Tonight Tonight" was the first video I'd ever seen, so I guess it was special to me because it was my first taste of a 'forbidden fruit'. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

When I was in college some of my buddies and I went to a near-by town festival to catch up with my girlfriend and some of her friends. When I finnally found her she was with another guy. It really bummed me out. My buddies and I piled back into the car, and on the way home "in the air at night" by Phil Collins came on the radio. I always think of her and that night when I hear that song.

There is a new song on country radio that should be a favorite to us all. Just the title of that song fits me to a "T": "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems"
If you haven't heard it, it is by Kenny Chesney and it isn't TOO Country for you country music haters (no dead dogs, pick-ups stuck in the mud, or broken hearts). He may have a web sight so you can give it a listen. Kennychesney.com? One of the lines it says, "Let's get packed, tank tops and flip flops... if you've got 'em" in other words, if you don't... who cares and he doesn't make any mention of pants through the whole song... hee hee. /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Hmmm...The "songs" that I keep in mind are mostly things like Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, Beethoven's symphonies, Mahler's Symphony of a Thousand...

Of those, the last movement of Beethoven's Fifth sometimes takes me back to Nebraska All-State Fine Arts Camp in 1975, where a girl about my age flirted with me with lines like "Do you want to see more?" (after flipping up a skirt to show shorts). "Finlandia" by Sibelius can remind me of the next year and a lovely girl who played oboe (beautifully) next to me in band and liked to wear halter tops. (OMG, I haven't remembered her in years! I had a furious crush on her for several months.)

hw, I'm confused /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif . At one point you said I reminded you of one of your kids.

So I pictured you as being near my mothers age.

Then you said you have a son who is 18. If I had kids right out of high school they would be near 18.

How old are you? /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Did I just ask you that? /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif You don't have to answer that. Forget I said anything.

I'll just picture you as a 20 something.

I have to tell you the first song I ever sang as a toddler, see if you remember it.

"Chickaboom, chickaboom" by Daddy Dewdrop

Dontcha just love it?

"Last night I had a crazy dream about a chick in a black bikini!
She looked so good she couldn't be real. She must be a magic jennie!
Chickaboom, chickaboom. Don'tcha just love it!"

A friend of mine years ago would realize that he needed some cash for the following day after having consumed a quantity of beer. Being too drunk to write legibly, he would ask the bartender to fill out his "sheck".

Don't worry, he always had a ride home. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Perhaps he was the impatient drunk who banged his fist on the bar and yelled, "Wheresh my drink?"

I had to bring this thread back for Stu and Rocket/Whoever.

"We're not gonna take it! No! WE ain't gonna take it, ANYMORE!"

We've got the right to choose it,
no way we're gonna loose it!
This is our life, this is our song!

Your life is over rated,
boring and confiscated.
If that's your best, your best won't do!
