I was just curious to see what peoples views are for the prices of nudists resorts and clubs.
For membership and entry fees.

Larger resorts are $20-$25 a day now....that's pretty crazy. It's not like they have to maintain any amusement park rides...
Proportionatly, Disney is about 100 times the size and only costs twice as much.

I think we're talking 2 different things here, especially when looking at your poll choices.
Naturist resorts, some of which are all-inclusive (accommodation, meals, drinks), like Eden Bay in the Dominican Republic, charge a set amount per day, per couple (usually). Other resorts, like Club Orient in Saint Martin, (also in the Caribbean), charge for accommodation only, which is quite pricey by most standards.
Resorts, to my knowledge, normally don't charge entry fees, unless it has a private beach, like the Sorobon Beach Resort in Bonaire (Dutch Caribbean). When the Resort is not full, guests from other hotels can use the beach for about USD$10 per person per day.
Clubs, like La Pommerie in Quebec, Canada (south of Montreal) charge a very reasonable per week rate to rent a cabin or a trailer -- accommodation only. Entry or daily fees are included in the rate of the rental.
Basically, I don't think you can mix the two -- clubs and resorts -- in the same poll.
Just my 2 cents' worth.
cheers,

Journeyman's points are well taken, but there's another factor that figures in. Prices vary widely around the Carribean.
My understanding is that the Dominican Republic is realatively inexpensive for visitors to start with, whereas St. Martin is expensive anywhere on the island. When we were in St. Martin, and discovered what the prices are in the basic economy, I thought the rates at Club Orient were remarkably low. However we were on the island in the low season. No doubt pricier still in high season.

Actually journeyman, in Florida, there is Caliente and Paradise Lakes. They both charge an entry fee and you get nothing with it. Everything else is a separate charge.
I was just asking how people felt overall.
Sorry for the mix-up.

I really don't know. I haven't heard of many resort owners hunting for ways to spend their excess money, that's for sure. I suppose it costs whatever it does (to create a resort and keep it running). I get there so rarely that it's not an issue for me cost-wise.

Thanks for enlightening me on this -- I didn't know one could go to either of these places for a day without staying overnight at another fee.

Unfortunately I live right near Chicago which means the nearest resort is better than an hour drive away (in good traffic).
Even broadening the radius from home a bit, the prices around here -- from what I've seen on most websites -- is more like $40 on average.
If I went once a week during the warmer months, I'd be paying upwards of $500!!! Sorry, but with a wife, a (nearly) three year old and a three-and-a-half month old... that's not really possible for me right now.
Sigh... I need a better job.......

Happy that all places in my region are completely free. But if compare a Soviet epoch, then now I see even those 1,5 USD to buy the city bus ticket until the beach makes for many people the stopper without of what attendance would be greater. Comparing for example the pricing for naturist sauna, what can be normally 6 USD for all night or if very cheap place 4, or if someone uses only short time then 2 USD, I know some people specially coming just hour before closing to economy or going to those not so nice or to those too far off places just to economy a 2 USD.
I am sure that American resorts would win very much if try to research the slope of offer-demand curve and calculate by that own price set.
All our supermarkets have a "lucky hours", "magnetizing price days", "special actions" etc what are just the hidden way to explore the curve`s slope - nothing else (and dont tell those fools story about advertisement role of such activities. Yes, everyone having an economist education knows it is worth to put energy to explore the optimal price - it may tenfold a turnover if good luck. And many cases that optimum (what produces a maximum benefit for owner) is (curious) LOWER than that what he thought is reasonable (of course not 100% cases).

Exactly. The owner of my favorite resort doens't drive a Benz; he lives in a trailer and drives a beat-up pick-up truck. I think 25-35 bucks is about right, when you take into account that there's always something at the resort that needs to be fixed or maintained. Also, nudism is mostly a seasonal and weekend activity at smaller resorts; so it's not a steady influx of money, like an amusement park (which also boasts a much higher attendance.)
I also look at it this way: if I take my wife and daughter to a movie, it comes out to about $30. For that amount of money, I'd rather be nude outdoors.

I guess it depends.
Day tripping to a nudist park is expensive. A seasonal membership - if you're close enough to the park to use it - usually is a good value.
Likewise, if you spend a week at a resort, it is a reasonably priced vacation. For instance, my wife and I go to Eastover for the Eastern Gathering - we take a private room for four days, and it includes all meals - and the tab's around $800. $100 per day / pp, which is roughly what you'd spend at any vacation venue with a private room.
We go to Cypress Cove in the fall for a week - we rent a villa - and that's a good value for the money.
On the other hand day tripping - which used to be cheap - can be very expensive.
Even more expensive when you add in the price of gasoline, highway tolls, food, etc. to get to a place -- which prompts me to start another thread.

As a long time member of White Tail Park in Virginia, I think that membership is a terrific value....I pay $1,275.00 for the year and that includes my lot rent as well as a membership. It comes out to $106.25/month....less than a lot of people pay just to store their camping trailers.......I pay more than that actually for my local storage unit.
But for clubs outside of Florida and California, you have to keep in mind that day visitor fees have to support the resort/club throughout the year, but only come heavily in the late spring to early fall months....and a rainy 4th of July weekend (or Labor Day or Memorial Day) can be devestating to a club owner's bottom line. I guess the point here is that if someone thinks that prices are too high...hey go ahead, buy some land and clear it, hire some employees, put in some attractive amenities (swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, a clubhouse and a snack bar/restaurant, maybe some petanque or volleyball courts), have the health department come in and inspect the property so you can get a license, and then charge whatever you like. Keeping in mind of course that whatever you charge has got to last you during the period when weather is bad and people don't want to come out to your park/club and your income is zero....but of course you still have to pay your employees, maintenance on the facilities, taxes, etc.
Good luck to you in your endeavor...hope you're wildly successful....In the meantime, thanks to Bob Roche, the owner of White Tail for providing a park of which I am proud to be a member. BTW, the AANR East convention will be held at WTP next July....hope to see you all there.

Walt does make some very good points, and with any business, The price of doing business, even if you try to keep the cost for the consumer down, do get expensive and really do add up. That has to be shifted over to the consumer, us nudist, to keep the business in business, unless the owner is one very filthy rich and genourus person.

It's hard to say depending on the resort. If you have a membership and use it, it's certainly worth it http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I know that $25-35 is not unusual, and I'd say that's kinda high. I think $20 for a good, quality place in the nature and good social atmosphere is well worth it. If the place has events/sports to bring people together that adds a lot of value!!!
As far as Disney being 100 times larger, well, Doc, size does not matter in this case. You also don't have to wait an hour in line to jump in the pool http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I'm just glad we have nudist resorts . . . consider the alternative http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
