The Meyers, John and Linda have been wiped out for a second time by Katrina or by the non -response to the disaster to be more accurate.

John has been hospitalized with 3rd degree burns over 40% of his body and Linda was treated for 2nd degree burns on her hand after the FEMA supplied trailer they were extremely fortunate to be living in exploded in a fireball destroying what little the couple had left from the hurricane.
Joseph Meyer, John's brother said, "I imagine he's going to take this real hard, at least after the storm he had his health."

Another trailer exploded in January into a fireball causing 2nd and 3rd degree burns on two contract workers at the FEMA distribution center as they prepared the trailer for delivery to another "fortunate" family.

What gives? Is the base cheapness and lack of sensitivity so pervasive at FEMA that they don't care what they are doing?

We're developing the characteristics of a failed state.

1. Flawed and questionable elections favoring a minority power elite and religious group.

2. Disregard for the "Rule of Law" except as imposed from the top down through executive order, edict or fiat.

3. Secrecy in governance with policies and programs emerging which favor the wealthy and other power elites.

4. Break down of public education.

5. Failure to be able to protect its citizens from natural disasters coupled with an inability to adqautely respond following such disasters.

6. Dispropotionate amount of the national treasury and economy diverted to military away from health, education and welfare of ciitizens.

7. Villification of minority groups with the emergence of vigilante groups to "regain control of the situation".

8. Constant state of warfare with external forces with increased demands for rigid controls of the citizenry in support of the war effort.

9. Diminished hopes and expectations of the citizens with more and more of their day-to-day efforts focused on basic survival.

10. Elimination of an empowered middle class.

usmc1,

Sounds like we are evolving toward an oligarchy. Not what I want to see at all.

I don't mean to imply that escape from oligarchy is impossible, but a critical mass of people must agree that they don't want to live that way.

The latest figures, from FEMA no less, released today show they have out and out wasted over $1,000,000,000.00 (that's a billion for those that have trouble counting the zeros) and counting of our tax dollars so far on their "handling" of Katrina.

Remember those 10,700plus trailer homes FEMA purchased for flood victims setting in Arkansas, well 10,400plus of them are still sitting there because they do not meet the standards set by FEMA for residences in a flood plain http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/doh.gif.

And with at least two that have already exploded it looks like they will stay in Arkansas ... empty!

Well at least they are consistant ... mismanagement is the modus operandi for this administration.

A recent article on the radio said that every $0.10 spent on repairs and constuction in New Orleans is costing the taxpayers $1.70.

Korak, I can't believe $0.10 in repairs cost us $1.70 ... that cost is way too low ... how can our government ever think of spending less than $5.00 for $0.10 worth of goods and/or services?

I mean that's just not American! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/shout.gif
