For the last couple of years the law enforcement has ticketed nude people on the beach in the Santa Barbara area. Does anyone know if this is still happening?

You could always go up the coast a ways to Red White and Blue beach. It is a private nude beach and not subject to the local law enforcement types. You can even pay a few bucks more and camp out over night. Or head South to San Onofre in Northern San Diego Co.The last time I was up in Santa Barbara was 97 at More Mesa it was fine then.

Where is R,W & Blue beach? I've checked by N. American Guide, various web sites and I can't find any mention of this beach. Perhaps it goes by a different name?

Hey Danger!
I found Red, White and Blue Beach, 5021 Coast Hwy., Santa Cruz CA 95060, (831) 423-6332. (Latitude: 36.9777, Longitude: -122.14166) This privately-managed clothing-optional beach, located on Scaroni Road just off Highway 1 at milepost 24.9 (less than ten miles northwest of Santa Cruz, see map) has long been a favorite of naturists because it provides flush toilets, showers, an improved campground, and a secure, clothing-optional off-highway parking lot. Admission is $7 per day per adult plus $1 per child; overnight camping ($14 per adult, $2 per child) includes admission from 3:00 p.m. overnight to 5:00 p.m. the following day. Reservations not taken; just drop in. Open Feb. 1 - Oct. 31.
I found it using Nudist Explorer (http://www.Nudistexplorer.com) search engine which brought up several pages including the page that had this information:

SANTA BARBARA BEACHES: I have been going nude to More Mesa Beach now for the 2 yrs I have lived here and never saw any police. I did read of police (Deputies) raiding the beach after a gal was sexually assaulted in April 2000. I moved here June 2000 and have been there many times with no police problems. I am going again this wednesday August 14. Just make sure when you go down the stairs you stay nude ONLY to the right (West) of the stairs. Hope Ranch lies to the left and they will report nudity to the Sheriff's Department. The folks at More Mesa are quite nice and the beach is beautiful, sometimes there is natural seepage of oil which will stain your feet for a few days.
More Mesa is worth checking out. Anyone may e-mail me for more specific information.
