I just became a Grand Pa this morning. We became GrandParents. I'm too young, Ha!, to be a grand dad, at 42. The healthy ,baby boy is doing fine, so is mom, but I'm not sure it has sunk in yet with my stepson, age 23. My oldest son, from my first marriage, was married in November, but he says he and his wife are going to wait a few years and enjoy each other first. I really wish my stepson and his girlfreind had too, but things happen.

Hey, congrats, Bama...but I know how you feel - I turned into a Grand Uncle before even being a father! Enjoy the baby!

Congratulations! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/applause.gif
I keep telling everyone the reason I'm not a grandpa yet is because I'm only 55 and that is too young to be a grandpa, so you are just way too young. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/rolleyes2.gif
I told my kids when I'm 60 we'll talk about having grandchildren! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

And you are never too young to be a grandparent.
I was 34 when my son married and I received a six month old granddaughter with the marriage.
Several years and several grandkids later my youngest says I am the same age she is...5 but about to be 6 and I think I will agree with her.
You will find joys you have forgotten or never knew with grandchildren.
My only advice would be love them and cherish them.
I also will tell you it is a fact if you could have had grandchildren before you had childern life would have been so much easier, but look at it this way now you can tell your children "Na Na Nay Boo Boo" when you see that familar glaze over their eyes now.

Congratulations! Glad it all worked out ok.
You at 42 are still young. I knew a woman who at the age of 31 was a grandmother! Then at the ripe ole age of 46 she was a great grandmother! I expect that if I had maintained contact with her that at age 60 some odd she would have been a great great grandmother, and time was left in normal life span for her to make even the next step!
Life goes on !

I was ready to be a grandpa by the time I was about 53 or 54, but my daughter and her husband waited ten years after getting married to finally present us with a grandson and then a grandaughter about 17 months later.
They are now nearly 3 and about a year and a-half. Absolute joy when we can be around them, but they live in Houston, and we can't get together nearly often enough.
Bama - congratulations, and best wishes to this new boy and his parents. You will now find out just how much joy there is in this stage of life, and your kids will now understand just how much you have always loved them.

I thought I had seen this thread before. It is interesting when people revive old threads. As for the grandpa part, I refuse to grow old. My daughter is 8 years old, so that means that I most likely won't have to be a grandpa until I am in my 50's. Of course, even then I will still be claiming to be 25 http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif.

Children of the past are what makes the future of tomorrow. We are the children of the past and is our job to make new children to create a future built on what we leave them for their children.
We are in this life such a short time, we need to do the best we can and pass what we learn to our children to help them do better than what we did.
I wish you and your children and your grand children only the very best. May they make a stellar future much better than what we are able to make.

I still remember how we kept sauna warm for our childresn all the day on those not so warm days and they came between swimming sessions in sauna warm up.

Sauna; One time at Dyer Woods [the local nudits camp] I decided to take a cold plunge. Now it was night the temp was around 10F and there was about 2 feet of snow cover. I got the sauna fired up and choped a hole in the ice all looked good. I then baked in the sauna for about half an hour and decided to try the cold plunge. My wife was with me and thought I was nuts. I ran out of the sauna and dove into my hole which had iced up. I broke my nose on the refrozen ice. It was very dark no stars or moon that night and I couldn't see that the ice had refrozen. NOW I GO IN FEET FIRST.
