View Full Version : How far do you travel to enjoy social nudity?

I envy those of you who live where there is a local nudist club or resort or beach where you can regularly enjoy nudist activities with friends or family. I live in Amarillo, Texas. I travel infrequently to the Dallas/Fort Worth area (300 miles) or to Albuquerque, New Mexico (250 miles)and visit AANR clubs. Otherwise, I enjoy being naked as much as possible in my backyard or home. I wish that there was a nudist club in Amarillo. I have corresponded with a few other "nudists" in my city, but they were only interested in swinging and partying.

Where i used to live i used to travel about an hours drive (100-120km away). For a while i was about 10 minuets away. Now if i want to go to my favorite place id have to fly about 11 hrs and drive another 2. I moved to japan this year so unfortunately i only have the company of my girlfriend at home and going to sento (public bath house) and most people don't socialize there unless they are in a group with friends.

Living here in Nevada, the land of topless bars and legal brothels where nudity = sex and sin = money
and profits, my wife and I often travel 50-500+ miles into California to find good resorts. Other than
that it's usally our back yard and small above ground pool.

For me to visit my favorite AANR resort is about a 125 mile drive. So I don't get over there very often.

About an hours drive for us.

Palm Springs and the nude beach at San Onofre. We could be at a nude club within 10 mins but it's too rustic for the Prof. A half hour drive from driveway to gate is Glen Eden. I've visited by myself but not with the Prof. She's promised to give it a try in the spring.

I hopeful she likes it enough to join.

Going to our only nude beach here in Belgium, we travel about half an hour by car. Going to Florida or the Caribean is an other ordeal, then we talk major trip. Flying from Eurpoe to the USA, but nothing can beat it.

my only "social" nudist venue is a tolerated beach about 30 miles away and being in the UK does not give a lot of time for being there, the warm summer weather is very limited. So, I am very much a home nudist. I envy so many of you with your seemingly never ending warm weather and wall to wall nudist venues.

It varies on what I am going to, I travel about 15 miles to attend a naturist swim (when work commitements allow), if I am going to the beach it can be about 40 miles or even 200 if going to see friends down south, also travel about 50 miles to go to the club I am a member of.

I travel extensively to attend CCBN beach meets, club open days, and Abbey House Gardens, but most of these are because I know I'll meet friends, that said I also go to a sun club in Cheshire where I knew no one, but they are friends now. I have a lady friend who invites me to her club in Gloucestershire quite often, and I've also been invited by another lady friend to her club in Essex.

I have no shortage of opportunities, what I do lack is the time to fit them all in.

We are fortunet to have two clubs nearby. Ponderosa and Sun Aura. (40min)
Also two resorts with driving range. Lake-of-the-Woods and Turtle Lake. Great for weekend getaways.
For vacations we have been to Desert Shadows, Terra Cotta Inn, Paradise Gardens, and Avalon.
Only nude beach we've been to was Mazo. (4hrs)

When I win the lotto I'll start my own resort somewhere in the Southern Illinois region.

we have traveled 150 miles to a nice resort. due to limited income and price of gas frequent a lodge one hour away. they are only open to guest during the summer months. enjoy the company of others in the home.

Wish there was one near Charlottesville. Think both Avalon and White Tail are 2 to 3 hours from here, one NW with the other SE.

It varies. Longest was to Cypress Grove 5200miles. Normally shorter, but to Mediterranean sea it is 1200 by airplane. If you live far from everything it is lond trip. Happily summertime by summerhouse we can walk naked direct to the lake.

I have a private backyard, so I only travel when I go camping for a week or weekend. It can be from 50 to 150 miles, depending on if we go to the mtns. or the desert.

I consider myself fortunate to live in Vancouver BC, where opportunities for nudity seem always nearby. Its about a half hour drive to Wreck Beach out by our University (official signed clothing optional), and there are nude swims organized over the fall and winter months in some of our community and school pools in the city. Boating provides some really easy opportunities for social nudity (more common than you may think!), and you don't have to go very far out of town to find logging and fire roads affording some really nice nude hiking if you are so inclined. And of course, what's closer than around the house and backyard.

I suppose what I am trying to say is if you have a friend or two who enjoy nudity or may be open-minded about the idea, you may not have to travel very far at all. Each other's homes or backyards, etc. I'm not familiar with Amarillo, but are there any areas out of the city where you could enjoy going without clothes? It only takes one other person to make it "social nudity".

Depends...could be 5 minutes...We travel 2 hours to go to a wonderful campground...we also travel 6 hours to be with friends...

So fact of the matter is....we do not travel any distance just to be naked, we travel to be with people that we enjoy being with and places we enjoy (being naked is just a bonus)

99 miles each way, every weekend during the summer. 1 hr 40 min if I do it non-stop.

Our nearest nudist friends live 25 miles away, through the backroads.

Here in the winter it's 23 inches! for my feet to hit the floor each morning. HAH! I just measured it! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/tongue.gif

Curious. Why the concern about the Amish? They are likely to just look away, not complain to the authorities. Indeed I suspect they wouldn't be the least surprised by nudity among "the English".

The Amish dress plainly to avoid pride, ostentation and ornamentation - not out of excessive body modesty (although they will not expose their bodies to others), nudity within the home is not uncommon - you don't get a private bath when someone has to fetch hot water for you (actually many Amish do have indoor plumbing with hot water).

Regardless of how much or little nudity would shock the Amish, as a rule they do no get involved with the legal system. This has led to some very unfortunate incidents of abuse by the most despicable of non-Amish - see claiping. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish#Relations_with_the_outside_world)

We are really lucky here in the DFW area. There are five AANR camps/resorts, all with full facilities - not all to the same standard though. There are two on the West side of Fort Worth, two to the North and one way out on the East side of Dallas. I have four within 40 miles! The club East of Dallas is in what we refer to as "East Texas" with tall pines, etc. Completely different than the immediate DFW area. Nice!

To NorthVanNudist, there is very little public land in Texas. Back when Texas was a Republic, the State sold off all the public lands to raise money. It is not like some of the Western states where the US Government is the largest land owner and you can do pretty much whatever you want to. We are dependent on private land owners.

There is nothing here to compare with the East or West costs, however. Maybe someday! Like sliver, if I ever win the Lottery...

I guess it would depend on where I wanted to go. Sandy Hook is the only legal nude beach in NJ and it is a 2 hour drive from door-to-shore. There are a couple of near-by nude resorts with the closest being about half an hour. Then, if I want to go hiking in the woods probably an hour to find a secluded trail.

Cheers.

About 30 miles to the C/O resort (Laguna Del Sol) and about 50 miles to the closest river (The Yuba) where skinny-dipping is allowed. There places closer to my home but they're too close to public view for my comfort.

Well, perhaps you should contact AANR or TNS about the prospect of starting a non-landed group in the Amarillo area....

Likewise, Houston, TX has five AANR affiliated landed clubs (plus several non-landed clubs) that are within 130 miles. I've been to all five.

1) Emerald Lake Resort (http://www.emeraldlakeresort.com/) is about 26 miles north of Houston on Hwy 59, at Porter, TX.
They've got a big outdoor Hot Tub that overlooks their 12 acre spring-fed lake. They've also got a smaller Hot Tub on an enclosed porch at the club house.

2) Natural Horisun (http://www.naturalhorisun.com/) is about 55 miles south-west of Houston, at Boling, TX.
They've got a nice outdoor Pool and Hot Tub.

3) Acorn Acres Resort (http://www.acornacresnudistresort.com/) is about 55 miles south-west of Houston, at Boling, TX.
They've got a nice outdoor Pool and large, covered Hot Tub (although sometimes they move the cover to shade part of the Pool).

4) Lone Star Resort (http://lonestarresort.com/) is about 73 miles north-west of Houston, at Navasota, TX.
They've got a nice outdoor Pool and Hot Tub, but they don't have a Club House, yet.

5) Star Ranch (http://www.starranch.net/) is about 130 miles north-west of Houston, at McDade, TX (it's actually closer to Austin ... ~35 miles east on Hwy 290).
This is the club where I'm a member, so I'm a bit biased about reccommending it. It's got a nice Outdoor Pool, plus a Heated Indoor Pool and Hot Tub.

There's also Bolivar - High Island Nude Beach (an unofficial nude beach) that's 85 miles south-east of Houston.

The nearest place where I enjoy social nudity is my back yard during my nudist paella parties. But for a better enjoyment of nudity I consider worth the trip to get to beautiful places such as nice lonely beaches in the Pacific, or even traveling abroad. In the US, Haulover Beach near Miami FL, and Hippie Hollow in Austin TX (where I used to go when I was in grad school at UT-Austin) are my favourite spots. I also go to Europe at least once a year, being France (I'm half French), Spain and Croatia my favourite destinations

During the nudist season, I 'commute' 80 miles (one way) to VVRC every weekend. Mazo beach is another 40 miles. However, to get to VVRC, I have to pass within a single mile of Sun Ray Hills. 'Only' 25 miles.

I regularly travel a little over 50 miles to get to Harbin Hot Springs (kinda cold this winter, however!), which isn't too bad, it takes about 75 minutes to drive, and I pick up a friend on the way. However, my girlfriend lives 45 miles in the opposite direction, so it'll be interesting to see how we work things out in the summer when we visit! Guess she'll be driving up this way rather than me picking her up too and adding 90 miles to our trip... lol

Otherwise, I've been known to travel as far as 3,000 miles to Florida to socialize with my online nudist buddies (but I've only done it twice!)...

The closest resort to me is in San Bernardino,C.A., the city I live in. It is about a twenty minute drive from my home.It is called Deer Park Resort, formerly Treehouse Fun Ranch. But I travelled all the way to Kissimmee,F.L. in the summer of 2000 to see the resort there. I forgot the name of it though! Sorry!

Me travel about 10 kilometers afar to the naturist beach at Baltic seaside. However this travel takes 50 minutes by bicycle or 1,5 hours with public transport or 1 hour by personal car, what have no place to park there. Riga allways is permanently jammed by traffic and I live contrary side of city. When I bought a flat I considerated a version to buy it just 1 km of the naturist beach, price was the same, but that was a "bad place" - heavy boozers and prizoners around, regularily steeling and demolizing cars and even garages, noisy, smelly and unsafe place. So I bought in a good morality green-lungs region, but far away. May be its time to find a deltaplan to visit beach more oftenly??
Last sunday I heard first sunbathers visited the beach, inspite of minus 18 Celsius cold and even them took a swim for a short. Polar bears! For me its enough with sauna - yesterday it ended rolling in snow - inspite of the sauna stays in center of city in middle of street bloke. Noone was very shocked or claimed of those few "aborigens" in windows observed more than dozen "mad guys and gals" runing naked out of sauna, jumping in a snow and taking a flash-camera pictures of such view.

I normally won't travel all that far, maybe a half hour drive, unless I happen to be in the area of a resort or nude beach. I think the bigger factor for me is the grounds fees. I think most resorts charge too much, and out of principle (and to simply save money), I don't want to support that. To me, its no wonder more younger folks and college students don't go to resorts. Cost can be a real factor for someone trying to get through school. At least alot of students here at Ohio U. seem to be eternally scraping by financially.

If you're not getting paid for the DJing, or having your Day Use Fees comp'd when you're there working, then it must be a great resort with fun people, to be worth a 4 hour drive. Do you have to haul your own DJ equipment back and forth each time?

It seems to be a shame one has to drive so far to a secluded specialized place just to enjoy nature as ancient man once did.

We are now relagated to confines of fenced in restricted places just to be what and who we really are. There are many other countries where being naked is acceptable and goes all but totally un noticed but here in the USA, the most free of all places on earth, one ends up behind bars and paying lawyers untold sums of money just to be naked while doing nothing else.

Is not fair but not all things are fair. Would rather be here in the USA than anywhere else but this is but one of the minor faults our nation enjoys.

I have to travel about one hour to Turtle Lake. Since I am a broke grad student, I was only able to make it there twice this past summer. If I could engage in recreational outdoor nudity within the Lansing area, I would.

It is about 1/2 hour to Green Valley. Sometimes we go to the caribbean for a nude vacation.

Which countries are these? The only place I am aware of are a few parks in Germany and third world nations where clothing is not optional because no one can afford it.

In the summer, 1.5 hour drive to a small lake with nude swimming and sunning.

In winter, 2 hour drive to a c/o sauna and hot tub facility with pool. Living in Maine, I consider myself lucky that these places are this close by.

It's about an hour when I go to the beach and 45 min. to the nearest resort.

Me and my husband live near Tulsa, Oklahoma. We flew to Washington Dulles Airport, rented a car, and drove to Avalon in Paw Paw, West Virginia. Worth every cent. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif
