That is exactly the intent of the 'al-queda twits'. They are trying to divide the country, and they will try just about anything to make the world leaders' turn on the U.S. and Isreal.

From what I have read, the people are now, beginning to turn againt the terrorists. The propaganda war didn't work, so now they have resorted to blowing up religious centers. Hopefully, in the long run, the people will see who the real terrorists are, and they are from within their own regions. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/smoking.gif

NudeM, I seem to remember reading and/or hearing something about some of the insurgents crossing into Iraq from neighboring countries like Syria,Egypt, and others. So, they(the Iraqi insurgents) are not alone apparently!

We have had people burning down churches here in the U.S., so we aren't exactly perfect either.

Yea Ken, that is exactly what is happening. Since the invasion (liberation), Iraq as since been a vaccum for terrorists. And as you have stated, they are indeed, coming across the borders from neighboring states. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/smoking.gif

Maybe they where hiding IED's there. And one went off setting the rest off? They do hide exsplosives in their mosques. Or have in the past. We know they hide and fight from them, because they know the US will not blow them up.

Yeah, it's our fault.

Greenman your premise that it was Al Queda is most likely in error. There is an ultra-fundamentalist group in one of the Islamic sects that deems other muslims as "infidels". It was most likely this faction, based in Egypt, which bombed the mosque, not Al-Queda.

Here's a very cursory overview of some of the divisions of Islam.

http://www.carm.org/islam/divisions.htm

But, the point is that this is Muslim vs Muslim and more religious than political in its implications.

I shouldn't worry, either, about it dividing Iraq or causing a civil war. Iraq is divided and a state of unacknowledged civil war has existed since 2004.

Al-Sistani is on the verge of losing his control of the Shiites, Al-Sadr' is ready to take his followers into 15th century anarchy, and the Kurds, are slavering at the prospect of creating a Kurdistan in control of the oil fields.

Just like our shot fired at Fort Sumpter which did not "cause" the civil war, but merely acknowledged the true state of affairs this "bombing" is merely one act within a while stream of events that began with our invasion.

But, I think you can safely assume al-queda had no hand in this, and in fact, al-queda's role in the Iraq insurgency is vastly, VASTLY over-stated. They're opportunistic and have capitalized on the anarchy and chaos our invasion and occupation has created, but they are far from the driving force.

Iraq is not a VACUUM for terrorists; it is a massive INCUBATOR for terrorists. Thanks to the invasion of Iraq, terrorism is orders of magnitude greater a threat than it was before.

But in today's reality, almost 50% of Iraqis support violent action against Coaltion troops. If 50% of Iraqis are willing support the killing of American troops there, it would seem to me the U.S. has quite a long ways to go there.

usmc1 has posted some good information. Thinking the mess we are seeing in Iraq is all about Al Qaeda is horse manure. What the U.S. has done by invading Iraq, and moreover, grossly mismanaging Iraq post-invasion, is put itself in the way of religious factions that have hated each other for centuries.

I do feel sorry for the good, sane, non-religous fanatics in Iraq who truly deserve a free democratic society.

Ah but there is a big difference. On the whole most church burnings in the US have involved arsonists who just don't like religion. In Iraq, the attacks against Shia religious sites are done by devout Sunnies/Wahabies who want to spart a religious holy war that will leave their faction in control.

Catholic Factions do not burn down Protestant churchs in this country...anymore...But I am certain that a select group of fanatic Christians would burn down a Pagan Church or Unitarian with vigor if given the chance!
