I wouldn't wear one, the wristband fad is dying, they are kind of lame now, it seems like everyone has a band out for everything, it was better when there was just a one or two of them, when it accually ment something.

The "fad" wristbands may be dying but for those wristbands that do mean something, we shouldn't allow the meaning to die.

Young people get tired too easily and bored with fads very quickly nowadays. Though these young people are the main reason for many "fads" or trends, these young people don't realize that some of these so called "fads" direct our attention to causes that are very worth while and bring attention to those causes and shouldn't be allowed to fade away.

If you believed in a cancer cure, were against drunk driving or believed strongly in naturism, you wouldn't wear a wristband to show your commitment just because some of those your age now think it's lame or no longer a worth while cause or just a "fad." http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Simple Jon-marc, they ask and you tell them. After awhile, they will have an identity to them...as the yellow ones do, for example, or the pink ones.

FireProf

Jon-Marc,

I think the idea is for us to tell them what it signifys. Some will be very up front about it, others may be reluctant, but for the most part I think the idea is for those of us that purchase them is to identify other nudists in the crowd.

We'll all be checking each other wrists out from now on! Strange body part to watch as strangers walk by. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I can see it now....."hey pal, you checking out my wife's butt?" "No, actually I was looking at her wristband!" http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Awsome! Thanks ErcNY for the poll. It seems pretty apparent that I'm wrong about orange and the color is CLEAR or nothing at all http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Clear was my second runner up, but I was told it would be hard to read or notice....but....seems like a landslide favorite.

The slogan or saying I had in mind was "Live Naked"...kind of sumarizes the nudist lifestyle without stereotypical labels and at the same time a little tounge-n-cheek about the whole wristband fad.

Personally I think it's an effective way to promote conversations about nudism. It's not nearly as bold as a t-shirt, but people also can't pass judgement at a distance. It allows for conversations, questions, answers, and you can easily remove it if you see your boss around town http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

So I guess the idea is kind of out there now....free to steal. ...On your mark, get set, GO!! hehe

FireProf

I really think you've got a great idea here and we need to send e-mails to TNS and or AANR and see if this is something they want to have made and sell on their websites or INA can take the lead.

At any rate, there will be some initial costs. Do you remember any of the particular costs for purchasing 1000 of these bands?

If it's not too expensive, some of us here can venture into this, it doesn't have to be one of the established org's. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Update: I just e-mailed a company in San Diego Ca. regarding these. This company has a 2500 wristband minimum order. I'll get a quote and then start comparison shopping. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

How about alternating clear & orange beads? Or otherwise a group or pattern of orange beads in a line of clear beads.

Maybe the orange beads could have letters or symbols on them with some hidden meaning regarding naturism.

Found another company in IL that only has a 1000 wristband minimum order.

I'll keep everyone posted. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Another update: The company in San Diego will sell a minimum order of 1000.

I would think debossed....it is more expensive. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

FireProf

Here's the initial quote! http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Cost of 1000 debossed clear silicone wristbands is $1391.00 tax included, not shipping.

Looking at approximate cost per wristband not including shipping of about $1.50 a piece but that's not making any money off this, it's selling them for what it costs.

My wife loves nudism but I think I'd get an earful if I spent $1400.00 on this little venture! http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It's still feasible for one of the large organization to do it. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I wear a wristband with my car key when I am at nudist functions or when I go to the jogging trail to exercise. (I often wear only shorts without pockets).

Count me in as a clear vote. I think is would be nice if someone would take the lead and start a movement, but after looking at the price, one would surely want to have at least 1000 pre-paid buyers.

Sure, for $1400.00, plus tax and shipping and first-time set up charges, you are looking at an astronomical amount.

I have a connection and will proceed to check this out. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

$1400 for 1000 wristbands is not a very good deal. But I've been pricing these companies for 2 months, I found some better deals. So pricing is definately something to consider. The goal is to break even without having to sell "all of them", yet keep prices reasonable.

Another issue is availability. Ordering 1,000 is the first step, but managing the commerce of it is the next step. My brother and I did web design for a few years after college, so our plan is to set up a simple e-commerce webpage where people who wanted a wristband could buy it with secured credit card processing using a company like PayPal linked to the product website. And that's an aditional cost per transaction.

So I still have to do a little math....but I think that they'd end up being around $2 per bracelet for a single order and closer to $1 per bracelet for larger orders. Larger corporations are probably not as poor and frugal as me, and probably would hire out tech work, so I dare them to beat those prices http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

-- Why would anybody want a bracelet? Personally I think it's a good way to share your interest in nudism passively, with non-nudists (good for non-activists who don't preach it). The purpose is to raise awareness. It allows for an exclusive conversation situation as opposed to a t-shirt or cap which may yeild no questions, only silent judgement. It's subtle enough that a person could wear it at will and not feel like a billboard for the nudist cause, yet obvious enough that some stranger is bound to ask out of curiosity. That stranger, a cashier, your nurse, a friend...they may just be a nudist waiting to happen. Raising awareness and finding new nudists, I think that's a good reason to want one http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

So...the company wrote back today and the order went through. They have to make a mold and then make the bands, etc. So they estimate that it will be 3-5 weeks before I get that big box on my doorstep.

ercNY, for sales and distribution Fresh Air and myself will get a domain name, make a website and link the website up to PayPal's secure online credit card processing services. So sales will occur online via the website and distribution will occur from my house I guess. I don't think these will sell in exuberant amounts, so I'll probably just mail the orders once or twice a week.

I think I'll go price some envelopes today and research shipping charges. So we'll make sure to keep shipping charges way cheap too.

I'm going to agree with Jennifer1 on this. There are so many wrist bands out that no one even notices them any more, let alone know what they mean. Yesterday I saw a yellow one (sorry, Lance) that said "shop-a-holic", so what's the point? People will know I'm a nudist by the lack of clothing that I'm sporting. And those people who I do not what to know will continue not to know.

I wear a purple bracelet for alzteimers (I know, I think I bashed that word), and people are always asking what it stands for. You probably don't see anyone wear one because you live in a nudist resort-they wear nothing. This is for mainly people in the textile world, wear clothes mean everything to many people. People are alot more noticing than you might think. If we get enough of them distributed, more will notice-hence, nudism goes wild!!!

Hey Doc -

You know Christmas is coming up. Why not use it as a marketing opportunity for nudists to buy their nudist friends a bracelet??

Another venue would be to sell to the clubs, which can re-sell through their gift-shops. I'd be happy to talk to Paradise Valley and Paradise Lakes. Maybe other forum members could do the same???

What other oportunities are out there that you all can think of that would support this venture??

DoctorSurferDude
09-15-2005, 09:34 PM
Definately Brian....the plan is to first make it available to those in this forum, then online nudists in general. After that we'll mail a sample and flyer to resorts, a few at a time. If after that point they are still selling in an excellent fashion, then we'll place an ad in the AANR bulliten and if that works than other magazines. Eventually Europe might show interest...or overseas....do you think they dig wristbands? who knows, maybe it's an american fad http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You all have been so helpful with ideas. I wish I could just mail out free bands for everybody, but that would get expensive and I'm far from rich. I guess I could start collecting names of resorts where you guys who that you'd like to see the wristbands at. Then send the sample/flyer package to those resorts first, or to whomever is interested in talking with them....I gotta figure out some sort of payback incentive for those who would be so kind. But till then, Paradise Lakes and Paradise Valley are on the list.

Interesting poll.

My vote was for the clear wristband. Apparently the majority agrees. Unlike the common colored wristbands, a clear one might provide us with the opportunities to break the ice and explain what nudism is all about...or let us keep those who would never understand guessing.

Once I suggested that we follow the example of recovering alcoholics who are in the 12-Step Program (attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings) who identify one another by asking, "Are you a friend of Bill W?"

We could ask a recognition question such as, "Are you a friend of Corky S?" or "Are you a friend of Corey M?"

Or else, decide on the appropriate wristband.

I also agree with the idea of a clear wristband. Make them available in the skinnydipper Shop as well as on-line and I bet you'd sell a bunch of them. I need two.

Hey Doc, send me a PM on how much they are. I will definitely buy some. Just let me know how much and I'll send you a money order, or how ever you decide how you want to be paid. Sure, I understand postage would be extra and I will add enough to more than cover the cost. Thanks and please, get back to me. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

You are right, ercNY. I am sure the postage and handling will be more on a half a dozen due to the weight difference. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I believe they will post a link to a site and will be using paypal or something similar.

Hold on can someone fill me in on this wristband thing...I don't have the patience to go back and read all the post (i know, college student procrastination)...

Where can you get one? Or is this just a hypothetical topics?

No one's mentioned this yet, but the only time one would wear this wristband is when one is clothed. There's little point in wearing one at a resort/beach/etc where everyone's obviously a nudist...

BTW, I voted clear & I'd wear one.

If you don't sell them all I'm sure that the INA store could make arrangements to take on or sell the remaining due to their large web presents and exposure.

Well, here is Belgium, and yes they are a big thing here in Europe. A lot of people wear them, going from kids to adults.

You can buy them everywhere, in stores and on several open markets.

I would for sure buy one and be proud of what it says.

Hey Everybody http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks so much for your interest....here is the update.

The wristbands ARE HERE !! we've taken photos of it (I should post one), and just need to take a few hours to make a website and set it up so that getting the bands out will be efficient.

We plan to set up payment through PayPal....just cause that makes it easy for everybody.

So....soon, I planned for sooner, just got busy with school stuff.

Thanks again everybody http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You're a professor...which means that if she doesn't like it, suggest to her to write a paper on it, in MLA format, complete with bibliography. http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif Hmm...I think she'd like it by the time she finished...but, what the heck do I know?? http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

By the way, I voted for any color, but my actual preference is purple, as in "Barney" purple.

Clear would mean..."clear and present danger." I have no clue where that came from or what that means, but it's a thought.

While I voted I wouldn't wear one, but they do make a great gifts for someone who would.

In addition to putting on a stupid throw-it-away bow on a package addressed to someone this up and coming Holiday Season, one could just as easily put a wristband on in its place, thus making if wrapped in a towel or some useful wrapping, and tied all together with ribbon or string, completely recylcable/reusable at a later date.

[This post was also posted in "Commerical Announcements" Re: Live Naked Wristbands Goes International.]

My order was delivered today. If it doesn't fit or you don't like it on your wrist, it fits well on your ankle. [Live Naked Ankle Band][See image below]

Maybe you started something, with this "Live Naked" Band. [I left the wrist out on purpose] It can be worn at other places you guys, it should fit well and be about the right size. It’s very pliable and adjustable.

Not letting your minds wander is this "Live Naked" promotion, decoration, or attention for nudists and naturists, or a multipurpose band of many "Live Naked" uses or purposes mentioned in previous posts in this forum.

Rings/bands Mentioned in other Forum Posts (http://clothesfreeforums.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3400016152/m/9880099473/r/2960025673#2960025673)

Any other uses you can think of?

* A canned drink paper towel insulator/cooler holder band.

* A promotion band to hold your cigarettes and lighter together, or purse, cell phone etc.

* Place holder for napkin silverware at a nude or regular dinner or gathering.

I've got mine now too. Very nice!

It is hard to read the printing on them in their 'bare' form. But since the printing is recessed into the band it is very easy to color them - and it won't rub off. Use a color fine point 'sharpie' or similar marker for a great effect.

Naturist Mark,

Yeah, that was the trade off for being clear that we didn't know about ahead of time. Though, it allows one to be a little more subtle in public if they so choose. The coloring thing is a great idea.
