Obsession: 1. Compulsive preoccupation with a fixed idea or an unwanted feeling or emotion, often accompanied by symptoms of anxiety. 2. A compulsive, often unreasonable idea or emotion.
Addiction: The condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or or involved in something. b. An instance of this: had an addiction for fast cars.
Which is a closer definition of your involvement in nudism?
I do know that when I have to put on clothes, my immediate thoughts are about how I can scheme to get out of the clothes again.

Neither one. I live a life with more than one dimension as do most other nudists. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/confused.gif

I agree Nacktman completly, but addiction fits most better between the two choices. I definately don't like the definition for compulsion.

I wouldn't say nudism is an obsession or an addiction in my case, but more a necessity, like eating and sleeping. Its part of my life.

Nudity and naturism is really only a hobby with me. I make plans to attend various clubs/resorts/activities but don't go overboard to attend EVERY one in my area. Simply something I do at my conveinence.

It is neither. It is my natural state.
I think the real question should be whether clothes are an obsesssion or an addiction (for textiles, that is).

Good responses. I meant nothing of a negative nature at all.
PascoDoug. If you have seen my two daughters at the mall, I think you would vote for clothes as an obsession. That would be my choice. Look at the huge industries that are built up to lend fashion to what is basically a utilitarian object. All they really need to do is keep us warm and dry.

I vote for neither one, also.
I agree with PascoDoug.Nude is natural.Clothes are the addiction.

Neither one.
My humorous answer would be that I am obsessed and addicted to driving my Corvette at a high rate of speed while nude, but that wouldn't be true.
I am only nude when I want to be and do not feel compelled to be nude at every opportunity.

Neither an obsession or addiction, but more of a preference for me. As stated, just a natural state that I would prefer as opposed to being 'forced' to wearing clothes. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/smoking.gif

What's inherently wrong with obsessions and addictions? I'm obsessed and addicted to running, how many have to make a big deal about that? http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/confused.gif

I am obsessed with wanting to go to nudist places like resorts or the beach. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif
I am addicted to social nudism, I could do this alone with the Prof, but we are very social people so we'd have to have our fix of social nudity or we'd go off the deep end! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/beam.gif
but like others here, neither of these two words or their definitions accurately describe what nudism is for us. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif

Macanude, a great question - thanks,
I think that I have an obsession and I am addicted.
I am addicted to nudism because I just LOVE being nude and feeling cool air around me and NOT feeling the tightness and restrictions of clothing. I think I do have an obsession, I do try to work out how I can be nude as often as possible and how to get friends and relatives to be nude also. Because of my "Victorian" upbringing and current prudish attitudes in society I do feel some anxiety when I am nude, like am I a bit crazy ? I feel some anxiety when nude in the presence of clothed people. I prefer my wife to be nude with me although she often is not. Not because she wants to be clothed but because she needs to be for protection from the sun, insect bites and being scratched by bushes. When she is not nude I feel that perhaps I should not be nude. I do know that she is not in any way concerned if I am nude and she is not. She is totally supportive and I think a little envious because she cannot be nude as often as I am.
Here is another word to consider - are we FANATICAL about nudity. Fanatic "filled with excessive or inreasoning enthusiasm". I don't consider myself fanatical because everything I do related to nudity is well reasoned and not excessive (allthough someone I know thinks I am excessive).

I'm with you there FireProf. I just love being nude. My fiance has told me that i'm obsessed and addicted to it and i half-way agree. I'm always looking for ways tha i can be nude and always wanting to talk about nudism. It's just how i want to live my life and how i'm most comfortable.

I agree that neither fits me. It is just a part of my being who I am. I am uncomfortable when not in a naturist state.

Being nude is just something I do-and I'm comfortable nude. Clothes-something people have an obsession over and are very addicted with ther obsession-very unfortunate http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/disappointed.gif

Being that I have never experienced social (socializing) nudity and would like to progress toward it with my wife it can occasionally occupy my thoughts. So in this way it is a slight obsession on occasion. I think that once we've experienced it it wont occupy my thoughts as it does now from time to time.

I have to agree with the majority here. Addiction refers to things which are inherantly harmful to the person like smoking, alcohol abuse and drug abuse. Obsession refers to activities/topics for which a person has an uncontrollable desire such as sex, death or violence. Having a preference to be nude falls into neither category. Just as having a preference to shower instead of taking a bath has no bearing. It is a choice. There are people out there who have obsessions over nudity, but one cannot lump nudists in with those people, just as you cannot assume that all people from California are movie stars.

Neither. It's just the natural 'me'. A preference, if you will accept that. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

I cant say I fall into either of those catagories. Even though I didnt grow up in a nudist family or even know there was such a thing as nudism I was always looking for ways to be without them. I was taught that nudity was a bad thing so I spent most of the time hiding my dislike for clothing. I dont have an obsession or additions to being nude its just who I am. I dont like wearing clothes.

I would say an addiction in my case but admitting that would be the first step in the road to recovery, which I do not want. Ergo, I shall just say being nude as much as possible is me. It is a part of who I am and my self expression.
Thank you.

It's closer to an addiction, for me, but it really doesn't fit into either category.

Nudism is BOTH an obsession and an addiction. It is also NEITHER. I'm both obsessed and addicted to being naked, yet at the same time neither because it's just natural.

I don't know that I am obsessed nor addicted. I am just determined to do what I like and I like to be nude whenever I can be.

Neither with me also. I have no compulsion to be nude. Sometimes I sleep nude and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I'm nude around the house and other times not. It's whatever is comfortable at the time.
