About a year or so ago I posted a message about the freedom of wearing a sarong to the beach when some clothing is necessary for legal reasons. It is extremely comfortable! Lately I found that another option, even for driving or whatever, is a comfotable skirt. I know the women reading this are saying "duh!" while the guys are probably thinking some kind of transvestite thoughts. That's not it at all. It seems unfortunate that skirts for men have not gained in acceptance when I consider how comfortable they are. I have actually talked with women who agree with me but as of yet it is slow to catch on. Today, as I go out with the boat, I will most likely wear a sarong at the boat ramp and easily shed that as I pull away for a day on the water. Tonight, as I drive home through heavy stop and go traffic, I will most likely sit behind the wheel in the comfort of a skirt that will let the breeze in and not make me feel so constrained as a pair of pants or shorts would. Has anyone else out ther tried this yet and have you got any reactions from others?

Wind'n'water,

There is a movement to increase the number of men who wear kilts, either with or without underwear. There is a thread on this forum, do a search on the word "kilt" to find it.

I myself have worn a sarong or pareo. Very freeing feeling. IMHO a sarong is more masculine than a skirt. To each his (her) own.

The main thing is to be free, be comfortable, be nude.

I've always wanted to get one of those utilikilts but they are pretty expensive. I saw a few men wearing sarongs at the nudist resort so I had to try, my girlfriend has one. I have to agree, that is a great way to go, so I'm buying my own this weekend.

If you think about it would seem more logical for men to wear skirt type clothing based on our physical design.

Im not in to womens clothes but if it was socially acceptable I would be wearing broomstick skirts. Saw several guys wearing a man version of these once at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in the early 90's. They must not have caught on cuz I haven't seem 'em since. Bummer.

I have considered buying myself a kilt now and again, but I know I would ware it without underware, and that would lead to exposing myself, accidently of course, in areas that are not nude friendly.

I have a sarong and I wear it if the weather is friendly, at times when I'm with oher naturists but we're forced to wear clothes. Partly this is a dig at the women who insist on wearing sarongs at the Eastern Naturist Gathering, where they apparently see the sarong as a "deniable garment" which must not really be clothing as they'd never wear it anywhere else. For me, the sarong is kind of "deniable clothing in reverse", something to wear when I'd prefer to be naked but have to be covered, a way of saying "My attitude toward clothes isn't the same as the typical textile."

So I always try to wear the sarong at the lunch they give us after the litter pickup on Cape Cod in June, when almost everyone else is wearing shorts. Trouble is, an open parking lot by the sea in early summer is a windy place, and it's distracting to have your sarong billowing around while you're trying to eat lunch. Not that I'd worry about body parts that might ocasionally show, of course.

And once in a while I wear it at campgrounds when I'm mostly in a semi-private area (my own campsite) where there are some passers-by. And I've gone hiking in it, but I think in general shorts are more practical out in the woods.

You know, I was just thinking of posting something about this. I was reading the xanga of a fellow teenage naturist, and she was talking about how useful her sarong was to her. She said that it allowed her to go nude at home and if someone came home, it was a matter of putting on her sarong and a shirt.

For men, while I know that the sarong is equally practical, it does not suit as normal in our culture. Personally, I have found basketball shorts to be a valuable asset. I don't have to wear a shirt, just slip the shorts on in a hurry if someone comes home. They also allow freedom and breathe very well.

Just remember, No Underwear allowed whatsoever, or else this does not work (except as a coverup to/ from the beach.

Hi, since I'm intrested in this topic of sarong, I want to know more about of that fellow teenage naturist, that she was talking about how useful is her sarong.

Could you post her Xanga website to read more about it?, and learn more about it how's usefull.

I think that using robes/cloth/towells like the ancient greeks did would be convenient, when someone comes unexpected.

A broom stick skirt is a light gauze skirt that is very krinkly. You can keep it krinkly by taking it out of the wash and wrapping it around a broomstick while still somewhat damp.

I do not recall exactly what her xanga was, but just search naturism on xanga and you should find it. It seems as though she had not updated in a while, so perhaps she no longer is on it. Anyhow, like I was saying about the basketball shorts, they are great. A few days ago, I tried to go skinny dipping on a non-naturist beach by going out neck deep and removing my swimsuit. I couldn't take it off past my ankles because of how difficult it is to put back on. So the next day, I tried again wearing basketball shorts. I was able to completely remove them, swim around, and put them back on when necessary. The only problem I had was that they clung tightly when I got out of the water, but that was remedied with a quick tug.

Hey guys, I've gone naked under my clothes, no exceptions, since I was an older teenager. I mean one layer of clothes whether I'm wearing gym shorts, shorts, jeans, casual/dress drousers or a suit which I rarely now need to wear. It's feels so good and natural, if you must be clothed, to feel your bare butt against the pants and to feel your genitals hanging/flopping naked under your clothes.
When I was a teenager still at home I threw every stitch of any kind of underwear in the trash. It made me feel so naked and liberated to not even own a pair of drawers. This has been an integral part of who I am as a man and a nudist man. I'm very open with everyone about going naked at home and never wearing underwear. When I dress/undress in front of anyone, friends, the gym, family, roommates, other situations I want to openly be seen dropping trou and stark naked underneath. This is who I am and I think it's perfectly normal, natural, masculine and healthy. I literally can't imagine dropping trousers in front of someone and actually having on underwear underneath. I would be completely embarrassed by this - I've never done it as an adult man and never would.
Would love to hear from other nudist men who feel and live the same. Tim

I love pareos. I posted this, below, some months ago on a topic about clothing choices around the neighborhood.

I've worn pareos for years around our marina and on the boat when we're in the marina. I've never had anyone say a word about it. My wife and several of our female friends wear them too but I'm the only male in our circle of friends who wears them around the marina even though all our friends are nudists. I've gone to parties on other boats wearing a pareo and a tropical shirt and gotten compliments on the pareo from the ladies...never the guys. If guys hear the compliment, I tell them: "Women love a guy in a pareo." That usually gets a laugh...at least from the ladies.

In the movie "Captain Ron" the title character is played by Kurt Russell who wears a pareo in several of the scenes. He also has long blonde hair and a patch over one eye. My wife and I went to a Halloween beach party once and I went as Capt. Ron complete with long blonde hair wig, pareo and eye patch. A German woman...who might not have seen the movie and recognized my costume...came up to me and told me "You really have a lot of balls to wear that." Who knows, maybe she thought I was just a guy in a wig and a skirt. Everybody else...all sailors who had seen the movie...loved the costume. Captain Ron is a hilarious movie, BTW, even if you're not into sailing.

The best bar in Singapore, IMHO, is the Long Bar at Raffles. All the male waiters and managers wear sarongs and look great in them.

There is a volunteer group at Burningman in the Black Rock Desert called the Black Rock Rangers. They do many of the same things, in the way of helping the 45,000 people attending the event, that U.S. Forest Service and Park Service Rangers do in our national parks. Utilikilts are worn by a large percentage of both male and female Black Rock Rangers. I think they look ruggedly appropriate in the high desert wilderness where the temperature routinely hits 110F or more.

Utilikilts has a contest they call "MockUMercials" in which people make and contribute fake commercials for Utilikilts. The list of the best efforts is here: http://www.utilikilts.com/?page_id=10 One of the funniest is "Call Me". Click on it in the upper right center part of the screen.

Last year, a U.S. Postal Service worker tried to get the Postal Service to allow kilts as an option for Postal Workers. http://www.boston.com/news/local/art...mfort_in_kilt/

Sept 24, 2009 Note: I just noticed both of these links are broken. Maybe Utilikilts will put their archive of mockumercials back up. The archive is still listed as a link.

us women definitely have the advantage over men when it comes to being clothed but free underneath. When the weather permits, I wear a skirt with nothing underneath and when I am driving I can pull the skirt up so that I am effectively driving nude from the waist down - it feels great!

There is a kilt that has a pleat in the front and back that folds in between the legs enough to give the appearance you are wearing shorts. I saw it on line and now I can't find it. A friend said she could convert a pair of my shorts that would look the same. Still waiting.

I hope that your friend realizes that velcrom closure is ideal, so that you can secure it on yourself fast.

they call this a kilt. Scots wear them and sometimes without any undergarments
