The next race in the SWSA Nude 5K Racing Series (http://www.swsa.org/Racing_Series/racing_series.html) is on Saturday, 24-Sep-05 at Armadillo Resort (http://www.armadilloresort.com/) in Poolville, TX. Followed by a race at Bluebonnet (http://www.bluebonnetnudistpark.com/) in Alvord, TX on 1-Oct-05 and Riverside Ranch (http://www.riversideranch.net/) in San Antonio, TX on 15-Oct-05.

I haven't been to Armadillo or Riverside before, but I'm looking forward to the races there. I did make the race at Bluebonnet last year, and had a great weekend.

I hope y'all can join me and walk, jog, or run in one of these fun races.

Take Care & Run Bare,
David

I'll be there. I have to run these last three to qualify for series ranking http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Sigh, enjoy my friends (I'm dying to do a nude 5k - and I just might, still have my sights on Star Ranch for next year/Spring). My last 5k time was good (17:38 - rather ideal conditions), but I'm definitely NOT getting younger http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif .

Looks like Hurricane Rita is going to bring rain storms to the N.TX area this weekend. But if there isn't any lightning, the race will probably go on (like Acorn Acres in 2004). We'll have a Fun/Wet Race, with lots of Fun/Wet Nudists.

In any case, it will be better than staying here in Houston!

At the moment my left knee is giving me trouble (it's too often something, isn't it?...). It's apparently been a bit bothered by all my attempts to get good footing around/on the rocks in the mountains.

Best of luck with your 1/2 marathon. I ought to think about doing one of those - someday.... http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

It's not a good idea to get separated from the family this weekend so I will not be racing at Armadillo. It's a cryin' shame but I'm not one for fooling with hurricanes and possible tornados.

Ben- you should seriously think about doing a 1/2 marathon or possibly the real deal[26.2] marathon. With all you hiking and trail work you would be a natural. The running is the fun part, the real chalange is between your ears!

I hope we hear from some of you soon so that we can begin to know that things are okay.

Run Well and Smooth---------Roadrambler </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Thanks for your encouragement, Roadrambler, but there's a very long history here (I'll try to explain relatively briefly).

In High School I ran (consistently, and surprisingly easily, considering) a little over 4 minute miles. However, I only ever did this by my own watch and, I might add, in long pants and without running shoes as I was forbidden to wear shorts, except for swimming and PhysEd class and my parents would not pay much money for shoes. But, in any case, I knew I could do it, and excepting one mistake (that landed me on the track team immediately and which I had to later forcefully quit) that happened as I was taunted for my lack of athletic ability while running once (I simply demonstrated what they DIDN'T know), whatever ability I had to run was a fairly well-kept secret. I felt strongly that I needed to prove myself to NOBODY and flatly REFUSED to ever enter ANY formal running competition, and never did (until much later anyway).

Not only did I run near 4 minute miles, I used to regularly run a 10 mile course and could easily complete it in well under an hour and thought little of it. However, just before High School graduation, in a series of accidents, I messed up my left ankle rather badly and graduated from High School in a cast. The specialist (Doctor) that cared for me told me I would never be able to run again. And indeed I could hardly even walk/hobble across the street wearing an ankle brace for quite a while. I gave up on ever being able to run again.

Then, one day, nearly 20 years later, I got the bug to try to run. I didn't think I could do it, but I had to try. At first it was awful, but slowly it got better. My ankle was not and is not okay, but it held up well enough to do it. I got faster and promised myself that I would run a marathon if I could consistently run 10 miles in under an hour again. I never quite got there, no matter how hard I tried http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif .

However, in a remarkable twist of fate, the very first naturist that I ever (knowingly) met in person was also a runner. After we ran together (clothed), he strongly encouraged me to run competitively, at least a little. So, at his near insisting (and giving me the opportunity to introduce my wife to a known naturist....) in the past few years, I've run 4 5k's, 1 10k, and 2 15k's (and that's "it", ever.). To my surprise, I have finished first or second in my age group in every one. To my utter shock, I finished 3rd overall in the last one I ran (in July). The guy in front of me was 18.

I find myself again feeling like I have nothing to prove to anybody. However, I would very much like to do a nude 5k and hope to, someday. It would be nice to do it while I can still run as I suspect my knee which hurts almost constantly now, is directly related to trying to compensate for my messed-up ankle (and perhaps running down off a trail-free 9,000 foot mountain during a thunderstorm didn't help.....). I fear I am running on borrowed time.

You know roadrambler, it's actually stories like yours that I find heartening and encouraging. I love to run and I hope and pray to be able to do it for many years to come - even if I choose not to and/or am somewhat unable to do so competitively. As fate would have it, the other day I was out trying to run carefully on a rather washed out (boulders) dirt path/road and ended up laying right down flat on it instead. I got scraped up pretty "good" http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif . It seems like I have to do that at least once a year to remind myself to be more careful.

However, very much for the record, I have given up running by no means, I'll be out running again today http://clothesfreeforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif and I certainly hope for many, many, many days and years to come...

Ben.

Ben i will be on a Rocky Mountian high for my run today! Good to see you are keeping the faith.I know of what you speak on trail running,iv'e found myself horizontal more than once after hitting a root or stone. I consider the minor scrapes and ding's badges of honor. Good running to you Ben!
