View Full Version : Car Show at Shangri La
Bare in the Desert

This sounds like a neat idea for positive promotion of nudism. Has anyone been to this before or planning on going? We're gonna be there.
On March 19 at Shangri La Ranch, there will be a unique event. I guess "unique" could be challenged, since it's the 8th annual happening, but it's a Very Cool event, at least. It's the 8th Annual Buff-n-Shine Car Show. For a day, Shangri La Ranch is open to the public for a per-car fee of a few bucks. Local classic and collector car clubs bring their delightful buggies for display, and the textiled public mingle with the wild-eyed naturists, discussing the delightful aspects of the SS 396 El Camino.
This is a fun event. It's also the only opportunity that we have in Arizona to show our textiled neighbors that we're just Normal People, but without that Fabric Softener Smell.
For those of you that haven't been there, this is also a great way to check out Shangri La for a bargain price.

What are the times for this event? It sounds like a good time

This sounds great as I have a classic car that I have shown a few times at events. At this event,is it the car owners who are nudists, or nudists who invite a car club for a nudist event?
I'd love to meet fellow car buffs who are nudists here in CA.

The Buff 'n Shine Car Show hours are 10 am - 2 pm.
I went last year and planning on going again this year. This popular clothing optional event draws up to 100 classic/collector cars and 200+ spectators.
It was a great event... fantastic cars, DJ music, awards and door prizes for the car exhibitors.
As Bare in the Desert noted, it is open to the textiled public for a nominal fee to view the cars, check out the Ranch and mingle with naturists. However, I believe normal day fees apply should they decide to participate, i.e. go skinny dipping http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

The Buff 'n Shine Car Show is coordinated by a classic car owner/member of Shangri La Ranch (http://www.shangrilaranch.com/). The vast majority of the car owners are textiled individuals or members of car clubs.

Hope you make it out there this coming Sunday and it's a warm sunny day. I'm ready to do some free hiking in Skunk Creek and on the hillside overlooking the Ranch - see avatar photo.
I contacted the office at Shangri La Ranch (http://www.shangrilaranch.com/) and confirmed that there is a fee of $2.00 per person to view the car show. Found out all proceeds will benefit Project Linus (http://www.projectlinus.org/index.shtml), a non-profit organization whose volunteers provide handmade blankets for seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise needy children.
Note - there's also a craft fair in the clubhouse during the car show and the Bare Buns Cafe will be open for lunch.
As noted earlier, the car show is a fun, great clothing optional event for Ranch members and the textiled public. Based on what I observed last year, at least 80% of the 200+ spectators were clothed visitors. However, if visitors want to use the facilities (i.e. the swimming pool, the spa, the sauna ...), the normal day fee applies and they must be nude.
Hey justnude, be neat to meet each other if you and the family make it out there. How does meeting at the "wishing well" close to the clubhouse at 12 noon sound? Hopefully Bare in the Desert reads this and can join us. Are there any other CFF posters going to be at the car show?

A modest fee of $2.00 per person allows the spectators to view the cars. Contact Shangri La Ranch (http://www.shangrilaranch.com/) if you would like to enter a car. Cameras are not allowed on resort grounds.

nifocinphx,
Is the cameras not allowed policy on resort grounds just for the car show or part of the rules and regulations of the resort?
Shangri La's web site says:
PHOTOGRAPHY: In order to preserve everyone's privacy, photos may be taken ONLY by resort approved photographers.
That does not mention your own photography at you campsite, RV, or Room as at some resorts where you can register your camera and take photographs of the grounds, trails, lakes, etc. and of your group, or others with permission or photo release.

I enjoyed the show last year and hope to attend again this year. I would agree that most of the people looking at the cars were clothed although there were enough of us nudies walking around there so as not to feel "odd"!

NakedGary,
Sorry for the delay getting back to you. The cameras [photos] not allowed policy are part of the rules and regulations of the resort, not just for the car show.
Are you thinking about coming over to Shangri La to see the show?

nifocinphx,
Unsure if attending auto show, as I have a large crab feed to attend Saturday evening 3-17-2007 but I do have a friend who left Laguna, and now just set up and is living in an RV just inside the gate.
I fly around western states, and know one of the partners in Mira Vista near Tucson, so I will drop in one of these days to both.

Last summer, White Tail Resort hosted a car show which drew several hundred visitors, our 2nd annual beach fest weekend with over 1,000 people in attendance, as well as the cruise ship themed AANR east festival with almost 1,000 attendees. There is plenty going on in our area.

Lake Como had their third annual Classic Car and Corvette Show (http://lakecomoresort.com/home/index.php?option=com_rsgallery&catid=10) in October.

Yes ercNY
Crab season is in full swing on the west coast and many organizations and unions have large [600 or more people] fresh crab feeds, dancing, and drawings for very nice prizes and gifts. It’s an annual event for tens of thousands from November through April or May on the west coast and I believe they air freight the same to the east coast for similar events.

Just as a reminder, the 9th Annual Buff ‘N Shine Classic Car Show is tomorrow... scroll up to see my February 27th, 2007 post. With the forecast high of 91F, it should be a great day to visit the Ranch and check out the car show. Just talked to the office and found out that the proceeds from this year's show will go to the Arizona National Guard families relief fund.
I'll be there, just wondering if any other cff members will be http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

Greetings... I'm actually writing this from Shangri La right now. The place is pretty full of people, and some of the cars are already here... even though the car show is tomorrow. If you are in the area, come out and join us!

Love to Brian.
Just came in from clearing the driveway and walk of 8 inches of snow and ice. Sure wish I could step out and enjoy the sunshine and gleaming metal.
Have fun.

Brian -- would have loved to join you but its a bit of a commute!!! Anyway, if you have any poics of the cars, I'm sure me and other members would love to see them. Thanks.

A car show or bike gathering sounds like a fun event, but I wonder if people go to it just to look at the naked people.??
We had a chance to go to Cypress Cove during a bike weekend but changed our mind because my girlfriend thought that biker guys were there to check out the gals.
Does anyone have experience at one of these events, and what was your experience?
Thanks

I just walk down to my garage and look at the gleaming red fiberglass. I was able to get my Corvette out and drive it to work a couple of days last week, before the weather turned wet again.

I don't know if Brian will be posting any photos of the cars in this thread, but you'll probably be seeing some soon on CFI's "Photo of the Day." The ClothesFree TV crew was at Shangri La Ranch (http://www.shangrilaranch.com/) shooting video and stills, so I would anticipate that the car show will be featured in "Nudes in the News" and photos will be added to "Photos of Freedom" in the near future.
It was neat to meet & chat with Corky and nudescasters; Greg, Brian, Christina, Sam and Pam.
Also met Bartamus, a CFF moderator, and justnude. Kept looking for Bare in the Desert, wearing a tan Fujitsu hat, and his girlfriend until the show ended but never did find them..... next time.
